How is the porn industry still afloat?

Lemme keep one hundred with cha: I don't know how to burn a CD. I know it's simple but the interest ain't there. If anything, I think it might be some knowledge that'll some handy someday like riding a bicycle

i know you are being honest. but damn homey why not

Look at it this way. Not everyone is broke like you. And if they wanted to watch some, they would just pull out they're credit card and pay for it.

i know you are being honest. but damn homey why not

that shit is akin to cut n paste mixtapes off of the radio. Besides, I'd rather use a flash drive to transfer info. A scratched CD reminds me of scuffed records. I couldn't see myself purchased a shitload of blank CD's/DVD to record shit on anymore. Plus, now that cars have a plug in for mp3s...:itsawrap:

I was talking about this at work today. I have to wonder how the hell does the adult industry stay in business. Nobody buys porn anymore. I don't gethow they stay in business. Or am I wrong and there are tons of people who still buy porn. I have not paid for porn in years. I don't see how amyone at this day and age could if the watched it.

BGOL has spoiled a lot of cats  People still buy porn, music and movies contrary to what you may see on here.

the typical internet user is NOWHERE near as internet savvy as the typical bgol -er.

i mean i know people that have paid 100 dollars just to upgrade their ram. shit is like a 20 second operation.

Negro, please. CACs, particularly middle aged CACs, buy porn like it's going out of style. Combine that with low production costs--it's not like in the 1970s when the trend was to make feature length films with plots... and shot on expensive ass film--and the fact that they don't pay porn actors shit, and it's easy to see why porn remains profitable.
True!!!

I have not bought text books in years. Don't even know what cd's are, or where to get them. When I mention that I have like 10 gigs of engineering books around white folks, 9 outta 10 look at me dumbfounded.

Everyone is not like us!

I would like to cosign this

Blockbuster to Close More Stores After Another Awful Quarter

See full article from DailyFinance: http://srph.it/cQIctS

Struggling video-rental chain Blockbuster (BBI) posted another dismal earnings report for the fourth quarter -- a period that is usually its strongest because of the holidays. The company -- long under assault from Netflix (NFLX), rental kiosks and online video offerings -- shut down 253 of its U.S. stores in January. It now plans to shutter another 150 or so in April, and additional closures are planned for a total of between 500 and 545 stores in 2010. The latest moves follow Blockbuster's closure of 374 U.S. stores last year, which left it with 3,525 entering 2010.

The beleaguered chain posted a wider quarterly loss after Wednesday's closing bell, hurt by massive charges related to the diminishing value of its assets. For the most recent quarter, the Dallas-based company reported a net loss of $435 million, or $2.24 a share, versus a loss of $359.8 million, or $1.89, a year ago. Excluding whopping write-downs for asset impairment, Blockbuster recorded an adjusted loss of 35 cents a share, far deeper than analysts' forecast loss of 17 cents, according to Thomson Reuters.

Revenue decreased to $1.08 billion from $1.31 billion in the prior-year period. That top-line number did manage to match Street estimates, but that hardly allayed investor concern, and shares sold off sharply.

"Indeed, the revenue erosion despite bolstered inventories and higher advertising spending affirms our stance that the competitive landscape has changed permanently and Blockbuster is at a severe competitive disadvantage given its eroding brick and mortar business," wrote BMO Capital Markets analyst Jeffrey Logsdon, who rates shares at market perform (hold, essentially).

Competition is hitting Blockbuster on every front: from Netflix, online video offerings from Apple (AAPL) -- among others -- and Coinstar's (CSTR) Redbox kiosk business. Blockbuster's "dying by-mail business, its half-measured entrance into the kiosk business" and too much debt are all working against the once dominant rental chain, Logsdon added in a note to clients.

I'm saying 'tho :dunno: they should've sold porn?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

 at least you're honest with yours. While you play'n, I can't believe how many of my friends are clueless when it comes to how to d/l shit. Shit is sad. A bunch of men and women in their late 20s and mid 30s looking like a deer caught in the headlights when I send them stuff. I remember the 1st time I sent them a rapidshare link cats where hitting me up with... "I thought you were sending me a CD? What the fuck is this? Where's the CD/movie?"

My youngest brother and his wife just learned how to text within the last 2 years. I bullshit you not.

This is why Apple is the personal music player and cell phone king. Simplicity. Want a movie or song on your phone or music player. Itunes drag and drop. Windows really fucked this up. They were way too late with their "works for sure" campaign. The war was already lost.

Blockbuster may be going (or gone), but disc rental is alive and kicking. I got news for some of you guys, there are people who are still using VHS tapes. And I know it because I see them every single time I go to the public library, which is often. It has dwindled, but they are still out there. This segment of the population is just switching over to DVDs and I might add are quite content with it

When I mention that I have like 10 gigs of engineering books around white folks, 9 outta 10 look at me dumbfounded.

Those must be some old and/or computer illiterate CACs. The CACs I went to school with were downloading plain-text copies of textbooks off the Usenet 25 years ago... and IRC 20 years ago.

Good question. Good theories in the thread. Waiting for a few more. Not totally convinced any one theory has hit the nail on the head, but some are real close.

agree

but my question isn't how is the porn industry afloat...how are the black companies and black movies still afloat. I know whites are still buying porn but there have been several reports some posted here on bgol about porn sales being down a lot. But how are west coast productions and black movie makers staying afloat? I know there are some blacks who pay for porn, but nowhere near as much as whites.

Me personally the reason I no longer pay for porn isn't being completely cheap, its simple, i want the scenes I want. Why pay $30 for a dvd when there's only 1 or 2 chicks I want to see? Also when I use to buy porn dvds there would be the dvds that had some fine chicks on the front, only to get in and see awkward camera angles, scenes without the positions i like, doggystyle, riding, or the scene may not have a blow job or it might be 40 seconds, the chick might not be looking good as she usually does, etc...So now I just download scenes from chicks i want to see, put them on data dvd or usb flash drive. I have a lot of peers, go to their cribs and they have large libraries of hollywood movies on dvd, majority are the authentic copies, but when it comes to porn its bootleg.

It's also the generational gap. Downloading is still like a secret society to the mainstream. Not everyone knows how to download or has the patience to learn.

Some family members had to train me or else I'd be lugging CD's to this day. :smh:
^^^^^^
THIS!

Do you know how many countless family members on both sides of my family ask me,"How do you download movies"?

Motherfuckers make it seem like rocket science.

Let me help you with this one, "They aren't". I was an adult webmaster for 5 years from the late 90's to early 2,000's so I can speak on it. If you notice back 10 years ago almost anybody with a camera and some web space had a porn site. I even helped a few lads here get their sites off the ground.

After Visa changed their tactics, people started jumping ship left and right. Add to that the extensive "cracking" of sites by brute force and numerous password sites going up and it was a perfect storm for the end of days.

Who went first in the onslaught were all the smaller sites (mostly black owned). As internet speeds increased and became more prevalent in homes, "video" became more available and easier to download - along came bit torrent and rapidshare accounts.

The bottom line is there is still money in porn, but no money for the little guys. black amateur sites used to be many but are now just a few.

Low budget and alot of hoes straight off the street. If you don't see it most only have one or two headliners and the rest are street hoes. Rio was a gold mine for hoes at on point but them hoes want to get paid top dollar now. Homegrown is where it's at now straight up freaks non of that fake fucking and screaming shit.

Maybe. But if the bulk of the consumers know how to get it free then how could the minority keep it afloat.

I remember hearing that the people who buy porn the most are in places like Utah and Arizona.

Everybody knows by now that porn is free online, but I think people still pay for more specialized sites like bang bros and stuff like that. A lotta whiteboys will sign up for a monthly subscription to shit like that, you know, to get the high quality hd shit.

Any you have intimate knowledge of what middle age white males sexual buying habits consist of. How many do you know that actually porn?

Let me get this straight...

You are making a boldface assumption saying that the bulk of people know how to get free porn yet you are calling out someone else on making an assumption on middle age white males???

You ever stop to think that the total mindset of a lot people is different?

That if they can pay for something w/o any hassles, then they will?

Asking this question about porn is the same as asking why is I-Tunes still afloat.

You can get free music online too but a lot of people, millions of 'em, don't want the hassle of searching for certain stuff, you go to one place and get what you want, no muss no fuss!

this is, like they say on this board, "real talk"

BGOL has spoiled a lot of cats  People still buy porn, music and movies contrary to what you may see on here.

BGOL is just another website that offers stuff to download. You got lots of other sites just as bi or bigger than here. I am not comparing the average person to bgol members but to most people I know. Maybe because I have been in the IT world since the mid 90 and on computers even longer. It just seem most people i know if they are watching that then they are not paying for it.

If you read what I wrote you would see I was talking about the industry based on people and the habits I know about. Save your girl not some random dude on the web.

One word: Hotels.

Bet alot of you didn't know that. They're responsible for more than half of the porn industry's revenue.

Yeah, i rarely burn cds. I usually plug in the iphone or usb. The most burning i may do is a dvd with mp3 files on it. I see you point on this.

So, what do you do when you want to hightlight a key point?

Lol, blockbuster is gone.

You might be right in the long run but Blockbuster is always packed in Manhattan Beach, La Dera, and other places here in SoCal. They may lose some stores and ultimately fold but their predicted demise (for the last few years) doesn't look like its going to happen soon. Which relates to the thread title. However, I should have made a better correlation of why video rental and sales businesses (in general) are still booming to why the porn industry is still afloat.

Ok. That does make some sense. I always heard those places made crazy money of of ppv flicks. so if you are not internet savvy then I see how that is a cash cow.

From what list did you get that ranking????

Oil and Gas

Automotive

Steel

Financial Services

Food Processing

Telecommunications

Healthcare

Agriculture

Chemical Industry

Tobacco

Aerospace

Information technology

Mining

Manufacturing

Transport

Electricity generation

Bigger than all but 3 of these industries??/
Really???

Blunt is still googling for a response.

If you read what I wrote you would see I was talking about the industry based on people and the habits I know about. Save your girl not some random dude on the web.

LOL, I wasn't trying to save dude, just making a point.

So are you saying you know over a thousand people and have asked each and every one of them whether or not they dowmload porn?

Maybe a couple of hundred???

I have no beef with you but you've never stated your sampling size for this informal poll nor who these people are or where they are located.

How many above 50?

How many above 40?

How many above 25?

How many computers do they have in their homes and for how long?

What level of education?

Are they internet savvy?

What is their definition of being internet savvy?

How much actual downloading do they do?

There's another 5 or 10 questions I could ask but you get my point.

And I echo what a few people have already mentioned.

When I send music files to people to use in their Ipods, complete with full instructions, much more often than not when I ask them if they liked what I sent they say they are waiting for a son, a daughter or a friend to come over and d/l what I sent for them.

And I'm talking for the most part either college educated people and/or people who work with computers everyday on their jobs.

Any kind of informal poll you do yourself could be skewed by the kind of people you surround youself with or who you ask a particular question.

I used to listen to Howard Stern and it used to bother me to no end that he assumed that most, if not all women in porn have a "love me daddy" syndrome, based on the fact that he asked every porn star that came thru if their father was around when they were raised to which he mostly received a "No" response.

He would also ask if they were molested when they were young, to which most said "Yes".

So on the surface his assumption seems right.

But he fails to ask regular so-called "well adjusted" women who frequent his show the same question, none of the stars, none of the regular women who called in, just the porn stars.

So his sampling portion is skewed.

That's my rant.

I've been on the board long enough to have a semblance of you and your posts so I'm not speaking from ignorance.

And as I still pointed out, the I-Tunes answer still holds!

we here don't affect the industry. If we didn't get it here, we wouldn't buy it anyway. There are those who buy and will continue to do so.

Its funny how OP said he hasnt paid for porn, Yet he sent HNIC 10$ and another 10$ coming up soon enough

If people didn't pay for porn this board wouldn't even exist. Who do you think originally uploaded the porn that you downloaded yesterday? More often than not it was someone who bought the shit.
