I was talking about this at work today. I have to wonder how the hell does the adult industry stay in business. Nobody buys porn anymore. I don't gethow they stay in business. Or am I wrong and there are tons of people who still buy porn. I have not paid for porn in years. I don't see how amyone at this day and age could if the watched it.

most folks arent into the know of how to download porn, especially alot of the older folks

It's the 3rd biggest industry in the WORLD, that's how.

From what list did you get that ranking????

Oil and Gas

Automotive

Steel

Financial Services

Food Processing

Telecommunications

Healthcare

Agriculture

Chemical Industry

Tobacco

Aerospace

Information technology

Mining

Manufacturing

Transport

Electricity generation

Bigger than all but 3 of these industries??/
Really???

The discretionary factor, unlike music and main stream movies folks
who want porn still buy retail DVD's from the back of video stores
or online...

It will die soon but that seems to be the nature of the buyers psyche
in porn.

I know a cat who sells bootleg DVD's does very well for a side hustle, he
tells me his #1 sellers are porn even tho he has all the new movies.

I guess the bootleg shit is a microcosm of the retail.

Nobody buys porn anymore...

Negro, please. CACs, particularly middle aged CACs, buy porn like it's going out of style. Combine that with low production costs--it's not like in the 1970s when the trend was to make feature length films with plots... and shot on expensive ass film--and the fact that they don't pay porn actors shit, and it's easy to see why porn remains profitable.

at work a lotta dudes in my shop got memberships to reality kings n all them know bout free shit but they dont want it.

I remember hearing that the people who buy porn the most are in places like Utah and Arizona.

Everybody knows by now that porn is free online, but I think people still pay for more specialized sites like bang bros and stuff like that. A lotta whiteboys will sign up for a monthly subscription to shit like that, you know, to get the high quality hd shit.

Any you have intimate knowledge of what middle age white males sexual buying habits consist of. How many do you know that actually porn?

I have not bought text books in years. Don't even know what cd's are, or where to get them. When I mention that I have like 10 gigs of engineering books around white folks, 9 outta 10 look at me dumbfounded.

Everyone is not like us!

You gonna upload a few, playa? :D

I know Katz who use to get mad because people where downloading their favorite porn hoe, saying you need to buy it to take care of them. One kat was about to fight me about the shit like he was dating the porn hoe or something.

Good question. Good theories in the thread. Waiting for a few more. Not totally convinced any one theory has hit the nail on the head, but some are real close.

It's also the generational gap. Downloading is still like a secret society to the mainstream. Not everyone knows how to download or has the patience to learn.

Some family members had to train me or else I'd be lugging CD's to this day. :smh:

The same reason Blockbuster video is still afloat and, despite rumors, isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Blockbuster to close as many as 960 stores

Blockbuster to Close More Stores After Another Awful Quarter

See full article from DailyFinance: http://srph.it/cQIctS

Struggling video-rental chain Blockbuster (BBI) posted another dismal earnings report for the fourth quarter -- a period that is usually its strongest because of the holidays. The company -- long under assault from Netflix (NFLX), rental kiosks and online video offerings -- shut down 253 of its U.S. stores in January. It now plans to shutter another 150 or so in April, and additional closures are planned for a total of between 500 and 545 stores in 2010. The latest moves follow Blockbuster's closure of 374 U.S. stores last year, which left it with 3,525 entering 2010.

The beleaguered chain posted a wider quarterly loss after Wednesday's closing bell, hurt by massive charges related to the diminishing value of its assets. For the most recent quarter, the Dallas-based company reported a net loss of $435 million, or $2.24 a share, versus a loss of $359.8 million, or $1.89, a year ago. Excluding whopping write-downs for asset impairment, Blockbuster recorded an adjusted loss of 35 cents a share, far deeper than analysts' forecast loss of 17 cents, according to Thomson Reuters.

Revenue decreased to $1.08 billion from $1.31 billion in the prior-year period. That top-line number did manage to match Street estimates, but that hardly allayed investor concern, and shares sold off sharply.

"Indeed, the revenue erosion despite bolstered inventories and higher advertising spending affirms our stance that the competitive landscape has changed permanently and Blockbuster is at a severe competitive disadvantage given its eroding brick and mortar business," wrote BMO Capital Markets analyst Jeffrey Logsdon, who rates shares at market perform (hold, essentially).

Competition is hitting Blockbuster on every front: from Netflix, online video offerings from Apple (AAPL) -- among others -- and Coinstar's (CSTR) Redbox kiosk business. Blockbuster's "dying by-mail business, its half-measured entrance into the kiosk business" and too much debt are all working against the once dominant rental chain, Logsdon added in a note to clients.

Lol, blockbuster is gone. They tried to copy netflix and that was a failure. They are trying to copy redbox and that is a failure.

Of course people buy and rent porn. But maybe it is because i know mostly savy computer people. I just don't know people that buy the shit.

As for talking about it at work. We were actually talking about business that seem to be on the verge of being obsolete like newspapers, music cds and maybe one the theatrical dvd industry. We the customers become aware that certain methods of getting content become old they move on. Sure some people still read papers, but for how much longer. Local papers all over the US are shut down because that content is available for free elsewhere. Music at this point is pretty much a donation to an artist you like. They get show money and cd sales really are not important to the artist success. I expect dvds to fall too with laptop getting lighter and tablets gaining more market share. Hell they got blue ray players with wifi built into specifically formnetflix streaming.

I get people don't want to steal everything. And with each industry i mentioned i understand they have customers. But if you are looking from it from a business pov, the porn industry shelf life if based on sales and rentals seems short. Unless they can change how people get that format of entertainment.

People saying they only know white dudes that pay for porn make me laugh and makes it hard to take the viewpoint seriously. IT savy and cheapness is not a trait for just blacks. I think it is understood by most people with a little knowledge that you can find anything on the web for free.

 at least you're honest with yours. While you play'n, I can't believe how many of my friends are clueless when it comes to how to d/l shit. Shit is sad. A bunch of men and women in their late 20s and mid 30s looking like a deer caught in the headlights when I send them stuff. I remember the 1st time I sent them a rapidshare link cats where hitting me up with... "I thought you were sending me a CD? What the fuck is this? Where's the CD/movie?"

My youngest brother and his wife just learned how to text within the last 2 years. I bullshit you not.

Go to any hotel and peep their PPV/On-Demand options. Filled with porn.

The whole world isn't on BGOL, downloads from torrents, or possesses Rapidshare accounts.

Sometimes it's easier to have shit on a DVD instead of a computer, especially if you have a wife and kids.

Bootlegging porn literally doesn't hurt their business, being that there is at least 100 people buying for 1 person stealing. Porn I believe is still the #1 search on all search engines... and now since every person has a porn board or paysite... it is entrenched like a tick on a hog's rolls of fat.

Based on other forums I've visited (like adultdvdtalk) there are some SERIOUS porn fanatics running around. These are cats who take pride in the fact they pay for their porn. I too, am surprised at how the porn industry is still afloat.

same here....I think everyone does this...but they don't....then they think I'm a computer wiz for knowing how...????

Lemme keep one hundred with cha: I don't know how to burn a CD. I know it's simple but the interest ain't there. If anything, I think it might be some knowledge that'll some handy someday like riding a bicycle
