I was in BestBuy today looking at the HDTV's now mind you I have 1080p Samsung Plasma so I know what 1080p looks like or so I thought...I was looking at 3 TVs in a display room 1 in front and 2 to the left and right of me all playing the bluray of Fantastic 4 Silver Surfer...however there was CLEAR differences in the picture!!!

1 of them was a panasonic and it just looked like it was a very crisp picture (like mine), the others were sony and samsung and they had a 3D effect to it that made it look like I was actually there on the set watching them perform!

So the question is whats the difference in the TV's or 1080p for that matter??

And all the TV's were either LCD, LED 120hz none of them were 3D or 240hz they were all about 40" big.

I agree probably calibrated and set to their highest output settings. Which is going to look very bright. Keep in mind when you get any of tv home it's not going to look like that. Most stores have the tv's under very bright light and the effect is not going to be the same when you get home.

word, because your plasma should show better than any lcd or led.

thats what i was thinking....

im not talking about the brightness or the contrast of the image...im talking about how 1 tv just looked sharp and the others looked like they were real and i could reach out and touch jessica alba's face.

I thought it was the bluray but i saw that they were all fed off the same player...i wish i could show an example

Ok I got you. I was just trying to say to keep in mind how these sets were set up and they may not look like that when you get them home.

What you really want to do is go to a store with a dedicated Media room. There you'll get a better feel for how a set will look in your home.

Also if you haven't checked them out visit the AVS forum,
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/.

Them cats do not fuck around when it comes to their knowledge on all things audio/visual. Do a search for the sets you are considering and chances are they'll will have a thread about that set with all kinds of advice, tips, and reviews about that set.

Good Luck.

UPDATE - I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY!!! I WENT BACK TO THE BESTBUY AND LOOKED AT THE TV'S AGAIN AND APPARENTLY THEY DIDNT CHANGE THE LABELS FOR THE DISPLAYS SO THEY WERE WRONG!! THE SONY AND SAMSUNG WERE 240hz LED'S....

Plasma is 600hz. Those TV's are using that bullshit effect that make all movies look like a damn soap opera. If you watch movies with a lot of special effects like star wars it will look clearly fake as hell. You will be able to tell they are in front of a green screen.

That is very true, the greenscreen scenes looked faker than normal....but the fact that it looks like we are right there on set, i dont mind!!

Your best bet is to do your research online and then buy it. Searching for the best tv based on the display models is an exercise in futility. They always make the more expensive models look better.:smh:

your best absolute bet is to just buy the tv that you like. it's pointless wasting time researching online and reading reviews. Go with the tv you like best in the store. At the end of the day, that's all that matters. Just don't buy anything under 1080p and 120Hz though.

its the true motion effect ,plasma doesnt have true motion, true motion makes the images ook real where the movie looks like a camcoder picture
