How to Become a Home School Teacher

Step 1
Find out the laws that govern home schooling in your state. Before you decide to teach your child at home, it’s imperative to know the rules. Contact your State Board of Education. In some states, you will register as a private school, but in all states, you must notify the state of your intentions and the names and ages of the children participating. (See Resources)

Step 2
Become a home school teacher by preparing an educational curriculum for your children that matches or exceeds the standard of education in your state. This standard is also available from your State Board of Education and it lists the minimum educational requirements for a child in each grade. An exception exists for children with diagnosed developmental disorders.

Step 3
Plan to spend a minimum amount of time teaching your children every day. Home school teachers must ensure that their children spend enough time participating in educational endeavors. Usually, this is seven hours of study and 50-minutes qualifies as an educational “hour.”

Step 4
Arrange for your children to participate with other children in community sports and athletics in order to fulfill your state’s physical education requirements or develop your own fitness curriculum.

Step 5
Maintain strict time records when home schooling. This is especially important if you are home schooling high school students who intend to pursue a college education. Most colleges and universities accept home-schooled students, but they want to see records of their course of study and the method by which you arrived at a grade.

Step 6
Schedule times when your children can participate in standardized testing as required by your state. Some states require yearly testing to ensure that your children are learning while other states require no testing. In any event, high school students should take the ACT or SAT exams. Public schools must allow home-schooled children to attend during testing days.

Step 7
Order entire curriculum sets or make a custom curriculum for your children. You can purchase all the materials you need online from numerous home school suppliers. (See Resources)

Step 8
Enjoy your role as a home school teacher. There is nothing more natural than educating your own children, so relax and make school time fun

How to Become a Private Tutor

1
Become an expert in one or more subjects. If you decide to become a private tutor, specialize in subjects you know well. For example, a science teacher or science major may tutor students in this area, whereas a person who loves literature may become an English tutor.

Step 2
Brush up on your skills. Even if you know everything about a subject, it doesn’t hurt to hone your skills. If you plan to make tutoring a career choice, take continuing education courses or workshops in your subject.

Step 3
Gain credibility. Although private tutors don’t need a college education, you may consider a degree. Many professional tutors began their careers as teachers. If you don’t want to complete four years of college and obtain a teaching degree, opt for a certificate or Associate’s degree.

Step 4
Get organized. As a private tutor, you’re responsible for designing a syllabus and keeping up with your tutoring sessions. Depending on the number of clients you have, this takes great organizational skills.

Step 5
Create a lesson plan. Before looking for clients, you’ll need to write a lesson plan. Ideally, it’s best to create different lesson plans for adults and children. Moreover, you may want to accommodate varying skill levels, and create lesson plans designed for beginner, intermediate and advance learners.

Step 6
Advertise your services. Starting a private tutoring business is easy – getting clients is a different story. Contact public schools and offer your services. This is a great way to tutor homeschooled students. Post flyers on college and community center bulletin boards, or run a small ad in the local classifieds section.

How to get a grant, if you don't have enough money to start your business

Step 1
Go the "Grants" page of the U.S. Small Business Administration. This provides a list of links to many pages of grant information. Although a number of grants are for non-profit organizations, lending institutions and state and local governments, there is also information for small, high-tech businesses.

Step 2
Look through the U.S. Government Grants site. Here, you'll find user guides for the site, a "Help" section and links to state agencies.

Step 3
Contact your state or local Small Business Development Center in the United States. You will find contact information for your local branch either in the local phone book or through an Internet search. Each center provides information and assistance for small-business owners.

Step 4
Research the economic development agency of your own state or province. The main government page for your state or province will have links to development, business or financial assistance. You may have to enter the search terms "business grants."

Step 5
Find answers to questions about grants for Canadian businesses at the Small Business Funding Centre site. This site will provide help for getting money to start or expand a small business in Canada.

Any info on starting a graphic design firm??

Question: How Can I Start a Design Firm if I Don’t Have Enough Money?

Answer:

Many people ask how they can start a design firm without business startup funds. If you can’t afford to start a design business, how can you get into graphic design? One of the best ways is to start small. Starting a career in design doesn’t necessarily mean starting a design “firm,” at least in the traditional sense. You don’t need to start with an office space or employees… your firm, or freelance business, can just be you. While there are some startup costs, a design business can be one with relatively low overhead. If you can’t afford an office space and a staff of 6, chances are you’re not ready to be at that level. Here are a few tips for starting small:

Work from Home

One of the highest expenses for a design firm can be the rent. Working from home, especially from the start, can save a great deal of money. Set up a dedicated office space in your house, if possible, so you can work without distraction. While you most likely won’t be able to hold client meetings at your house, many clients would rather you travel to them anyway, or you can arrange meetings over lunch or at convenient locations. This may not be ideal, but either is spending all your income on rent and additional utilities. For many, a design business can remain in a home without ever moving into an office space.

Don’t Buy Everything at Once

There is plenty of equipment and software to purchase to help in your design work. However, chances are a lot of it isn’t completely necessary from the start. Start with the most crucial design software, which may vary depending on what you do. Often, a lot can be accomplished with one or two major applications, and while you may spend some extra time completing tasks you will save a lot of money. As far as equipment goes, start with the basics… a computer. As time goes on, you can buy that perfect scanner, graphics tablet and other design tools, but only get them when necessary if you are low on funds.

Look for Discounts

For the things you do need to start your business, look for deals. Students can get a discount on most hardware and software. Refurbished or older model computers can often be purchased directly from manufacturers with warranties. They will cost less and often be powerful enough for design work

•Discover your market and their needs
•Choose a business environment that works for you
•Create a business brand that gets noticed
•Write a marketing plan that captures clients and creates referrals
•Develop profitable client relationships
•Set your fees
•Boost profits by expanding your specialty or your business
•Combine your creativity with Entrepreneur's expert advice-and design your own successful graphic design business

Owning and Operating a Vending Machine Business – The BasicsYou’re here because you are thinking about starting a vending machine business. Great decision according to forbes.com, which states that operating a vending route is one of the easiest businesses to start. And, from the time you set up your first vending machine, your vending route can potentially make lots of cash!

Since 1993, Gumballs.com has helped hundreds of vending route operators start and maintain their vending business and we’re ready to help you get started, too! Before diving in, it’s important to think through some of the basics that will eventually become the foundation of your vending business. Read on for some more tips from Gumballs.com!

How to Start a Vending Machine Business 1-2-3

step1

Find a reputable supplier of commercial quality vending machines (like gumballs.com!).

step2

Find locations in your area that you think would be good locations for vending machines, preferably locations with a lot of foot-traffic. The more people that come through the location, the better.

step3

Approach the store/location owner, let them know you operate a vending machine business in the area, and propose to set up one of your vending machines in their store. Explain to them that, as part of your vending business service, you will completely service the vending machine and take full responsibility for it. Let them know that the vending machine takes up less than two square feet of floor space, does not need any electricity, and will provide their customers with a great service. Best of all, they will earn a percentage of the gross sales (anywhere from 15% to 33%- its up to you).

step4

Set up your vending machine and start making money! Once you set up the first vending machine, find another location and start the entire process over again.

Start Small

Once you’ve been awarded a few locations and determined the type of vending machines you’ll start with, it’s time to purchase the machines and get them up and running! If you are new to the vending business, you may want to start with smaller machines that require a minimal upfront investment, such as gumball machines or candy machines. The maintenance on these machines is minimal provided they are checked on a regular basis. Plus, they do not require any electrical hook-up.

Location, Location, Location

Choose locations that will generate the highest amount of profit. Obviously, high traffic locations will likely generate the most sales for your vending machines.

If you have difficulty finding available locations for your vending machines, seek out new venue opportunities while carrying on with other daily activities. Are there places with foot traffic that could use vending machines?

Network with the contacts you have including business owners or managers, family and friends, groups or organizations you are affiliated with, charities, etc.

Popular locations include malls, car dealerships/repair shops, banks, schools (particularly if you can vend healthier items), hospitals, large corporations or manufacturing facilities (break rooms), hotel lobbies, restaurants, etc.

Found a promising location for a vending machine? Approach a manager of the location to ask to place a vending machine. Be prepared to offer a commission and create a written document that outlines your agreement with the location.

Gumballs.com Tip! Offer the location manager a percentage of earnings from the vending machine versus a flat fee. Since you do not know how much money your machine will generate until it is operational. You want to avoid having to give all your earnings to the location manager should your machine not perform.

How To Start Your Business

________________________________________
If you have an idea and you want to turn it into a business, you must find out what it takes to make it a business. While I'm flattered that you asked me, and I know about business in general, I do not know about your specific business. So, you'll have to find other sources who know your business and your industry. But in the meantime, here are some general tips:

1. Understand the business. Look for books about your desired business and read them cover to cover. Call the business's trade organization, if one exists. Ask them where you can learn the basics. Go to their conventions. Meet other people with the same kind of business. The Internet will help you find them quickly: Five minutes with Google uncovered "The New York Nightlife Association," which you could call for information about bars and clubs. You can also find similar businesses in noncompeting areas, call them and ask the owners for advice. For example, if you want to start a dry cleaning business in New Mexico, call an Ohio dry cleaner to learn about the business.

Once you've got a business owner on the phone, you need to learn the basics of the business plus any hints about being a success. Ask the following questions:

What things do you need to run the business? A restaurant, for instance, needs ovens, a stove, cookware, dishes, a storefront, tables and chairs.

What kind of people do you need to run the business? A restaurant needs a waiter, a cashier, a cook, a dishwasher, a busboy, a bartender and so on.

What are the business's major expenses? Most businesses pay rent, electricity, gas and advertising. A restaurant also buys food and drinks, while a hardware store would need to buy inventory.

Where does the money come from? Restaurants make money from sit-down customers, take-out customers, delivery, catering and bar sales.

What are the common "gotchas" that cause new people in this industry to fail?

What is absolutely necessary for success?

2. Prepare a business plan. Business Plan Pro software from Palo Alto Software is a great resource. It comes with 400 business plans from many industries, and the plans give financial information for the various kinds of companies. These plans will guide your examination of potential expenses and income, and you may learn some surprising things about your business. For example, you may find that some restaurants make nothing on food, but all their profit comes from drinks. Other restaurants make all their money on catering. Once you've seen the range, you can decide which makes sense for you.

Don't copy a sample business plan's numbers directly, though. Change them to suit your area and market. Rent in New York City is different from rent in Akron, Ohio. Any business whose primary expense is rent will have to be run differently in the two cities.

You'll also want to talk to a lawyer who knows your kind of business. There may be licensing or health requirements to be taken into account. For instance, in my city, there are a limited number of liquor licenses, and you just can't get one until someone else goes out of business. A lawyer can alert you to those little gotchas.

You can find out much more about writing business plans from my business plan column archives.

3. Make it happen. To make the business come alive, you need to gather the people, raise the money, rent the building and buy the supplies. You'll be doing all these things at once, but money will usually need to come first.

There are many places to raise money. Though its budget has been severely slashed, the SBA can help with small-business loans. Though larger banks sometimes offer limited small-business resources, many smaller community-oriented banks can work with you to understand your personal situation and provide flexible financing that suits you.

You can also raise money from family and friends. It's a good way to lose family and friends, but if you must do it, use a service like CircleLending to administer the loans and keep them objectively recorded and administered.

Scout out good locations while you're raising money, since rent is often your biggest expense and will affect how much money you need. It's even more important if your business depends on walk-by traffic.

While you're raising money, start romancing people you want to join the company once you're funded. Some of them may join on now, in return for stock and partial ownership of the venture. Also begin scouting locations, finding ways to connect to distributors and suppliers, and basically getting your ducks in a line so that when the money comes in, you can start operations quickly.

What you do next depends on the business you've chosen to start. Keep reading. Keep researching. Learn how to manage people, and make sure to have good outside advisors who can help you think through the tough issues bound to come up when you're a business owner.

Good post. People can also just hire others and take an administrative stance in the business. I'm actually meeting with a designer this week. I've always done better delegating work instead of overhauling myself.

Ur smart dude, looks like you started a pyramid scheme. When that starts moving well you'll get rich as will the associates closest to you. The first rich people I knew of outside of my family were network marketing cats. They had this ill formula. The way they did it is one of the only ways network marketing (MLM) will work. I don't fuck with MLM, but I have seen it work.

How to Start a Media Production Company

start-media-production-company-200X200.jpg

•Step 1

Research the market for media production carefully to fully understand the current needs that are being met and to find needs that could be served better. Focus on the needs that could be served better, since this is an area where you could compete. Research the necessary equipment and skills to better serve this area of the market. Develop a strategy to market yourself and compete within the media production market as a niche company.

•Step 2

Write a well-thought out business plan based on your research of the market. Define your goals for your business in a mission statement. Describe your business in detail. Include a description of the equipment you will need, what types of media you will produce, your target market, a marketing strategy and the day-to-day activities of your company. Provide a detailed analysis of the market, your competition and financial projections for the first year of your business. Attach any documents at the end of your business plan that will be necessary to form your business. The business plan should lay out your first year in business. After a year, revisit the plan and make adjustments to reflect your current business outlook.

•Step 3

Fill out and file a business and tax registration form as well as any other forms that may be necessary at the local, state, and federal level. As a media production company, you may be required to file for permits and licenses each time you film at a location or need to set up for a photography shoot in a public space. Check with the authorities in the area that you will be performing these activities prior to each production to ensure that you are in compliance.

•Step 4

Set up an office and production space. At the start, this can be from your home. You will need a computer with audio, video and photo editing software. Also, set up a desk, filing cabinets, telephone, fax machine and high-speed Internet access. Video cameras, cameras, sound and lighting equipment should be stored in your production space in a manner that you can access it when needed. Shelving or racks should be placed within your production space for this purpose.

•Step 5

If you are not already skilled in media production tasks such as video, photography, sound, lighting and editing, you should take courses, attend seminars and workshops, and read as much as possible to become familiar and proficient with media production techniques. Being able to produce a high quality product is essential to the success of your media production company.

•Step 6

Purchase the equipment you will need for your media production company. Start off with some basic, but high quality equipment, such as a digital video camera, sound recording equipment such as microphones, lighting equipment, and a digital SLR camera with a few basic lenses. Equip your computer with graphics, photo, audio and video editing software.

•Step 7

Work with a local Web designer to set up an interactive website. Use the website as a portfolio to showcase your media production projects. Set up a forum and a blog to engage visitors to your site. Encourage interactivity on the forum and use it as a way to generate feedback. Post blog articles that give tips on using media and media production techniques. Keep your website content current to promote return visits and increase your search engine rankings. Integrate social networking links throughout your website so that users can share the content with contacts in their social networks.

•Step 8

Advertise your media production services in trade magazines that cater to your target market. Join trade organizations and attend trade shows. Offer to give presentations on media production to local colleges and schools. Write a guest column for online publications dealing with marketing and media production.

How to Make Money Blogging: 7 Strategies to Help you Get Started Immediately

1. The “Flagship” or Big Blog Route

This is simultaneously the most profitable and most time-consuming blog venture. The flagship method directs all your focus on a few blogs in order to make them incredibly popular in their niche. Flagship blogs should have a large audience as well as high daily visitor traffic numbers.

These type of big blogs have a wide variety of monetization options with direct advertising sales being a big part of it. Know that not everyone can successfully create a big blog so attempt this route only if you absolutely believe that you have the networking skills, niche knowledge and marketing know-how that’s needed.

■Benefits: Fame as well as more monetization options/potential for your blogs, alongside personal satisfaction. Another advantage is that big blogs usually market or promote themselves automatically once a certain level of fame has been achieved.

■Disadvantages: Very time-consuming especially if you are not outsourcing the content creation or marketing duties. Expect a lot of work and experiment with creative promotional ideas if you decide to go this route.

2. The “Pay per Post” or Get Paid to Blog Route

This is rather simple. Set up multiple niche blogs on either your own domains or free blog hosts like Blogger. Maintain them over a period of time and focus on writing content and building up their Google PageRank, link profile and Alexa Rank.

Submit all of your blogs to multiple get paid to blog websites like Blogitive, Blogsvertise, Review Me, Sponsored Reviews, PayperPost, LoudLaunch and then start writing sponsored posts. I highly recommending using PayperPost as they simply have the largest amount of paid offers available.

■Benefits: The greatest strength of this method is that you don’t even need a large audience to make money. 20 people could be visiting and reading your blogs everyday and you’ll still be able to make at least $15 a day from each blog. If skillfully done over multiple blogs, this method can allow you to easily make over $1.5 K a month.

■Disadvantages: No passive income. You’ll need to spend time writing multiple sponsored blog posts, which can be boring and time consuming. Work will also be needed to maintain your multiple blogs, although that will be minimal after they have been optimized and running for some time.

3. The Automated Blogging or Splog Route

Automated blogging involves the setting up of blogs which automatically pull content from RSS feeds, search engines and news sources to serve as content on your website.

Some bloggers set this to pull partial excerpts of RSS feeds, which does go against some copyrights and one can choose to only include excerpts with a link back to the site in question. Monetization for automated sites is usually done through contextual ads like Google Adsense or affiliate programs.

■Benefits: Very little work needed to maintain these blogs as they do not need you to actively generate or write content. You might need to do a little SEO and regular maintenance now and then. Try if you are adventurous.

■Disadvantage: A weak potential for profit unless you understand the entire process perfectly and if you have quite a large number of blogs.I estimate that a fully automated blog will make you around $5 a month although the actual value depends on the niche and your skills. Assuming that this is so, you’ll need 1,000 blogs to make around $5000 a month. Splogs dwell in ethically gray areas as well.

4. The Text Link Selling Blog Route

The main bulk of your income through this method comes from selling text links to various webmasters and businesses who want to improve their site ranking in Google. While text link selling works for the flagship or other blog models as well, sites can be primarily built for text link sales as well.

The overwhelming emphasis here is on Google PageRank and niche relevancy so you’ll need to focus on these two factors. You can either convert a domain into a text link and sponsored post selling blog or you can purchase a domain with existing PageRank to sell text links for a quick buck. I suggest looking for link buyers directly through webmaster forums.

■Benefits: Selling text links or contextual text links is rather easy and doesn’t involve much work. Potential for profit will correspond to your Google Page Rank and niche. A site with a high PageRank and a profitable niche (mortgages, credit cards) will be very attractive to link buyers. Like paid review blogs, traffic is not a factor in these blogs as well.

■Disadvantages: Over Reliance on the Google PageRank algorithm means that your income may rise or fall depending on your actual Page Rank. There may also be a limit to the number of links you can sell which leads to an income ceiling.

5. The Made-for-Adsense or Made-for-Affiliate-Program Route

This involves setting up a blog around a specific topic with moderately high priced keywords (e.g. teeth whitening, car loans). You’ll only need to create around 25 keyword rich articles on the topic, optimize it for search, set up Adsense or affiliate programs and then leave them alone.

The main emphasis is on building links to the specific webpages, according to the long tail keywords you want to target. Search engine visitors will then find your blog and either click on the ads or convert on a product.

■Benefits: Not a lot of time involved as you can usually contract an experienced writer to develop the keyword rich articles. Not much time is needed to update the blogs as well and new material can be added on a bi-weekly or even monthly basis.

■Disadvantages: There might be a lot of competition in a profitable niche and search traffic might not lead to sufficient income, unless you go for volume and set up dozens of similar websites in other niches as well.

6. The Blog Network or Contract Blogging Route

This involves joining a blog network and getting paid to maintain and create content for blogs. You’ll get paid according to the amount of pageviews, possibly receive a token base fee in the hundreds or a share of the blog’s ad revenue.

■Benefits. Relatively stable monthly income because of the base fee. Contract work usually leads to more freelance blogging or writing assignments because of your proven ability or association with a specific organization.

■Disadvantages: Why bother? If you’re that good at creating and promoting a blog, set up your own website and keep all the profits. However, it is useful to note that a lot depends on the type of network or contract agreement you receive.

7. The Blog-as-Marketing or Branding Route

This method will only apply if you own an online business or provide a freelance service like web design, copy writing or marketing consultation. A blog can be used to help promote your personal or business brand and attract more customers.

This is an indirect method of making money. Ideally, this sort of a blog shouldn’t be plastered with ads or paid reviews because it can tarnish the image of the brand.

■Benefits. A blog can help your brand or business to develop much more search visibility because it allows you to easily create more fresh content that caters to specific demographics as well.

■Disadvantages. Your blog will only be as useful as the quality of the service or product you are pushing. The amount of money you earn doesn’t entirely depend on the quality of the blog but the value of your service/product as well. Income is therefore indirect and can be inconsistent.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are several strategies you can choose if you’re interesting in making money from blogs. You can experiment with several of these methods in order to develop a better grasp of how blogs work or you can zero in on a strategy that appeals to you the most. Whatever path you choose, it is important to know that success will usually come when one is willing to invest time and effort in not only working as blogger but constantly learning how to better monetize or grow your blog.

Improving your skill-set and knowledge levels is especially essential if you’re planning to own blogs that make a steady income every month, and not just write for other blogs or use them as addons for your core business. As always, be sure to pick one that suits your personal schedule and interests.
