G1 Owners Unite! The Official G1/Android Thread..News/Apps/Features All In Here

i was listening to kayngay's "big brother" just thinking back to the earlier more livelier days of this thread when I was Zei and Dro's brother.

props to dasureshot for those apps

Whats good bro? Tmobile is literally pushing me towards the iphone :smh:

never, i may end up switching carriers, but not leaving Android anytime soon. Iphone's are good phones, but you'll be stuck with your iphone while Android is constantly upgrading throughout the year! Look at how many features iphone users had to wait for the latest iphone before they got the same privaleges peoeple with the first Android phones have already had. Over the next 3 or 4 months Android phones 2 years old will upgrade to even more features and iphone users will have to wait a year to get a watered down version of those features on the next iphone. Android is like going to work wearing what u want, iphone is like having a uniform. i love the freedom of Android. But, to everyone has their own personal preferences so switching to an iphone is kewl if that satisfies you......but there's way more iphone users switching to Android than Android users switching to iphone and others, lol. The majority of those people waiting in line for the new iphone were current iphone owners who were just upgrading, lol. Cats are really beefing with tmo right now but I had already told ya'll what to expect but ya'll kept listening to Agent C and all his rumors on superphones coming to tmo. The vibrant doesn't look like a bad phone, everybody is just so hung up on front and back camera's now that its disappointing, lol.

make sure yall get that official beta version of swype before it closes:
beta.swype.com

thx

I tried Swype but I have a Droid and I can type much faster using my physical keyboard.

But, if your phone does not have a physical keyboard, then you owe it to yourself to give Swype a try.

yeah, when i had my G1 I never used an onscreen keyboard. If the Nexus had a physical keyboard i'd probably rarely use swype, but since it doesn't, swype is great!

Any good new apps ya'll rocking?

peace

@ Royal.. my stance on that has totally changed since that post.. iPhones are having WAY too many issues and it doesnt look like that shit is going to Verizon.

Man it cant be better than this CyanMod Im running now.. Im totally satisfied. I just have this weird double notification issue with sms/mms that I cant figure out.. I have seen others asking about it.

Bruh i bullshit you not, this is the most popular rom to d/l right now. the rom itself is CM5.0.8stable based and I put my name on this shit as well:eek::yes::yes:

Chilling, just enjoying life! Will send you a inbox.

I was thinking about switching, contract is up in Oct. but Atl now has hspa+ and its nice, this is the first time since joining T-Mobile over 3 years ago that i've had comfortable internet browsing.

If I did switch it would be Sprint, but I have a question for anybody....If I buy a phone under 2 year contract, I have to keep it for 2 years???? Say if some better shyt comes out in 1 year, What's the procedure? With tmo all I usually do is buy another phone offline, sell my phone, switch out sim cards. But, if I did it on Sprint, how does all that work since there's no sim card, i'm sure there's a fee, right? Also with tmo if your phone screws up you can take your sim card out and use it in any tmo or att phone, wtf is the procedure with a Sprint phone?

 yeah I flashed it on Nexus on Sunday and its been running 100% smooth for the past 2 days! No problems whatsoever, I don't know if it was the new radio or what but all of a sudden I have 3g most of the time and lots hspa+, i know some have said on that hspa+ post on bgol that u wont see and H, but I have an H. Now with hspa+2.2 i'm finally getting the full benefits on the Nexus, i'm so happy I might even stay with tmobile! I guess I have to make one of those Lebron decisions in October, lol.

TiKL - Touch to Talk
Playlist Alarm

nice! also there's Chrome to phone, and a couple of other options in firefox.

Anybody know anybody with Sling Player, I know you can dl with app for free online, but does anybody have the box, and how's the picture when your miles away from home?

Radiotime! local radio, nationwide stations, espn radio, podcast, etc.............

Rockplayer! plays avi, flv and several other formats, no need to convert vids unless u just want to save space.

My homeboy has voicestogo or whatever its called on his g1, when i went to market it they had took it off:angry: and i can't find it online. seems like a nice app.

peace

Royal and Zei -- when do yall think the Vibrant will be in locations for a demo? I was in the mall today & stopped @ one of those T-mobile kiosks and they didnt have one. I have someone willing to buy my G1 for $150 (hes on that month to month and its cheaper that way) and I was gonna use that to cop the Vibrant if i liked the feel of it.

@ sro - i dunno bro, im gonna end up hoping on sprint and cop the epic since it has the qwerty keypad...but its no reason tmo shouldnt have a demo of the joint anywhere. im gonna keep my G1 just for shits and giggles

shit almost bought that vibrant.just cant fathom paying 350 on a cell phone. i got a partial upgrade...not due a full till december. now if i can find one for that price on ebay without that two year agreement i'm leaping lol

Anyone flash the new ADW 1.0.1 onto their G1 [crom 5.0.8] and keep rebooting to the nexus screen? Already did a reflash and restore, but was wondering if anyone has read of that issue elsewhere. Hasn't popped up on XDA or ADW's blog yet.

The guy that continues to make the launcher Dr. Cloverdale has been making the .apk for CM6 as of late. Are you installing from the market or flashing a zip

actually i was using anderwebls market app and the flash zip an xda'er contributed. both gave the same issue so i figure its an issue with his code.

Who's running CM6 or some other Froyo rom on thier G1s? Any issues? I'm only halfway through my contract but I gotta put fam on my plan so I gotta decide if I'm gonna go ahead and spend some loot on the Vibrant or save some money and stick it out with the old school til next spring, depending on if the performance boost with 2.2 will be enough to keep me happy.

And are y'all getting better battery life, just out of curiosity?

Bruh just get the vibrant, 2.2 is cool and what not but all the new features just not really for the G1...no flash, Live wallpapers lag sometimes...lol...well u get what im saying. And the battery life and performance are good with CM6

Whats good Zei? I can c/s about simply upgrading the phone. Modding with different roms and themes is one thing but when you start jumping to 2.1 and 2.2 and such its murder for a G1. You dont enjoy the full benefits & performance. If you like a rooted G1, you will LOVE a Vibrant.

Zei, I avent forgot about that thread either. Other shit is just popping on the board right now.. gimme like a couple days and get it popping homie. Do you have any issues with Tapatalk? Mine seems to freeze up after replying.

Its all good bro, aint in a serious rush. And I dont use tapa talk too much tbh. maybe on xda once in a blue moon.

But my G1 is about to fall apart, the touch screen panel is coming off and have no way to get it back on cause a screw don popped out. Cant use the qwerty no more cause if i do the touch screen is gone lmaooooo....time for a upgrade

Damn, well it sounds like you got more than enough use out of it! You mentioned Sprint one time before.. you switching carriers?

yeah if brother say Zei's G1 was a car it would have about 300,000 miles on it, he definitely got his money's worth. Who you rolling with Zei, speak up now! Are you going with Sprint (Lebron) or staying with tmobile (Cleveland)? lol

My contract is up in 2 months, tmo already told me I can get on that month to month shyt. I'd save $4 a month and have unlimited everything. I'm just gonna post up and see if tmo or sprint drops a phone worth while that will make me sell my Nexus. Sprint is the only company i'd leave tmo for, verizon and att prices are too high. Shyt, i'd be paying over $25 more on Sprint a month to have unlimited everything.

Right now for unlimited everything my bill comes out around $89 a month, if I was with sprint for unlimited everything $99+10 (4g)+ taxes. That's around $25 and that doesn't include mobile hotspots and that camera talk thing which i doubt i would get. So I think i'll be staying with tmo but i'll keep my options open and not sign another contract.

I think some people are sleeping on rockplayer (demo player) this shyt plays flv, avi, wmv, etc.... no need to convert shyt, just put the vid on sd card and ride out, no delays, no buffering, no need for wifi or 3g, its smooth sailing!

There's also a program called voice plus free, you can set certain numbers that you wont google voice to call. Like I have a couple of people who only have my google voice number, well you can set it up for whenever you call those selected google voice will call them, not your tmo number!

I slept on Real Player, its decent I like the look, and you can easily transfer songs from computer!

even though we have our own widget for news, sports, health, entertainment, etc...I really like the look of Daily Briefing on Samsung's Vibrant Tmo's Vibrant actually appears to be a good phone, just don't understand why it doesn't come with 2.2

just updated to 2.1, anyone any updated apps? cause most of them are outdated when I install. things like mybackup pro and such. thanks bros

Yea im gonna switch over to the jedi side[sprint] simply because they let me use my company discount and its cheaper for me in the long run

LMAO @ 300K miles, Im gonna gonna check out this rock player so i can watch some anime on my shit.

The "over-the-phone" webcamming works without 4G and ver the sprint network its pretty damn fast cause my pops and lil bro have a Evo so YOU KNOW i pushed it to its limits lol. The plan you should look at royal is the mobile to mobile plan where you get unlimited web, text, talk to any mobile on any network but you have 450 minutes to a land line phone. its like 59 or 69$ a month.

are there any speech to text messages programs for android 2.1? thanks bros

I forgot wats its called but search the market place for speech to text. I had it on my phone but it sucked. I think I may still have a vlingo apk somewhere and ill look for it. But if you joint is rooted then you can push the stock android voice text apk if you want that as well

Looks tmo is releasing the successor to the G1...calling it the G1 Blaze

Early speculation indicates the HSPA+ smartphone will have a 3.7-inch screen and I’d imagine it would have at least a 1 GHz processor, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and a 5-megapixel camera. The device is scheduled to launch in the September time frame, which may mean it’s too early for Froyo because T-Mobile generally likes to throw on custom software on its devices, especially high-profile ones like its first HSPA+ smartphone.

The big deal about an HSPA+ smartphone is that it will theoretically be capable of utilizing T-Mobile’s boosted 3G network, which can deliver up to 21 Mbps on the go. In a relatively disappointing note, the teaser page says the device has a theoretical peak capability of 14.4 Mbps. Real-world speeds should be about half of that, which is still fantastic, but not quite as fast as us crazy mobile fanatics wanted.

Saw this on endgadget...I was gonna post it but dont look to appealing to me. You cant put out all these high end phones and then come back with a G1 upgrade 2 years later...and the screen aint even tat big

Anyone in this thread thinking of selling their Nexus One? I finally have the chance to buy one and Google stops selling them...I been searching eBay but no luck so far...If you are then PM me

think you're going to have a hard time finding someone who is willing to sell. i have one, and i love mine. i look at all the newer phones ( evo, droid, droid x, vibrant ) and the only advantage that they have over the nexus is the camera and the display. processor is pretty much the same, and internal memory won't mean much soon since apps can now be run off of an sd card.
keep searching tho, maybe you'll find someone who is moving to another carrier

I'm having a hard time already, I kinda knew something like this would happen when I was ready to buy the N1...I'm hoping there are still some N1 owners out there that want to run and get a Vibrant:smh: or an Evo:hmm: or whatever else they got out

New Google Voice Ripped from G2 ROM

image_1.jpg

Remember that new version of the Google Voice app we told you about last week, the one that's part of the leaked G2 ROM and includes a revamped widget? Well, you don't have to wait for the G2 to get it. The guys over at XDA-Developers have pulled it the leaked ROM so you can install it like any other app.

As some of you may remember, when the latest Google Voice update came out it improved the speed of placing calls, but in the process eliminated the possibility of taking advantage of unlimited calling via MyFaves or a Friends and Family feature. This new app also has that "fix," so if you're still running an older version of Google Voice, you may not want to upgrade. Also, since it's a pre-release version of the new version, it may have some issues, but knowing that, feel free to give this a shot.
