Foreman vs Cotto

Fear is Foreman out boxes him from range. This is definitely a fight chosen as a get well fight for Cotto, after 3 straight tough fights with punchers, he needed a lil less artillery coming back at him to regain his confidence. Fear is, he may be damaged enough from the previous fights that Foreman might hurt him too.

I'm actually riding with Cotto too, but by the slimmest of margins.

I don't think he's damage goods. I know a lot of people state that but even when he was getting hurt he was doing some good work. I also know that people are saying he runs when he gets hurt, but I see him let his hands go. My only concern is are we going to see the focused Cotto that fought Mosley or the reckless brawler that thought he was stronger than Manny. In reality my mind has been telling Foreman is just too slick, but in my gut I think Cotto might redeem himself or at least be the benefactor of another robbery ala Clottey.

I could go with that.

I think Cotto got this. If you don't have the firepower to keep Cotto off you, it's very hard to outbox homie (ask Malignaggi) because he has good skills himself. I think Miguel always needed a "real" trainer. My prediction is a Marco Antonio Barrera-like career comeback for Cotto. He's dealt with good tall boxers before(Kelson Pinto).

gonna be a great fight. cant wait for cotto's resurection. foreman didnt look that great against santos. should be a good one

No doubt he's got a better trainer and a light hitting fighter in front of him, but, Foreman is bigger than Pinto and coming off of his win against Santos his confidence is at a high. If Cotto doesn't get his pound of flesh early, and allows Foreman to gain confidence, it might be a long night for Cotto (see Martinez/Pavlik). Don't see Foreman as athletic as Martinez, but, same principle...

I don't know man, Foreman looked great against an old, fat, stationary Santos but fighting Cotto is a different story. I'd never even heard of this Foreman guy until the Santos fight. Could be another great white hype if you ask me. Ah well, I just hope it's a good fight while we wait for the 2 "greatest fighters in the world" to decide that they don't want any part of each other.:smh:

this is a fight Cotto is supposed to win IMHO....his power will eventually wear down Yuri...

Cotto by TKO/KO....

I'm shocked. As much as people talk shit about Cotto on this board... I didn't think anyone would agree with me. The question i have for you cats though is even if Cotto wins, can his chin survive a larger weight class?

I think to a point it becomes mental. A lot of people say he runs when he gets hit, and to a point, I believe this. He stood in and fought during the later rounds of the Margarito fight, but since then, after listening to the criticism about not holding, moving, etc. in that fight, he really doesn't seem to be 'trying' to win. That being said, fortunately for him, there doesn't appear to be any murderous punchers in the Jr. MW division...

Isn't Cotto a middleweight?? If he puts on 30-40 extra pounds to fight big George, that means he will be slower.....ALOT slower. If Foreman can lay hands on you, he can knock you out

If Cotto is 200-210 lbs George gonna kill that boy

My guess is homeboy was joking. If not...:smh:

I got Cotto by last stoppage. Foreman is a above average boxer and wayy bigger than Cotto, but all that should do is stretch the fight out. These are two different levels of fighters.

I'll be the first to tell you that I don't know shit about boxers these days. Haven't even looked at a boxing match since Tyson bit Holyfield and haven't really wanted to. You asked a question; As far as I know, last cat named Cotto that I heard of was a middleweight (I think) or a welterweight. Last cat I heard of named Foreman was a heavyweight. So it's not really a big deal to me, just making conversation. If it's a misinformed opinion, I'm really REALLY sorry  Not really crazy about the way dude who thinks he's the resident expert on boxing will try to talk down to people though...that's cool, I'm used to BGOL main board superiority complexes among posters...

Fair warning though: I've gotten reactions like this before and been right.

:lol::lol: you can't script this kind of comedy

my views on the fight

i take my hat off to cotto..he got the job done and scored a nice KO..but it took 9 rounds for him to beat a one legged fighter....i still believed if foreman was 100% it would have went the way i predicted..anyways i don't think its a wise idea for cotto to remain at 154 where niggas like the punisher and martinez are the top dogs...if he gets into the ring with either one it will be a legalized murder...cotto cannot take 12 rounds of p-will's southie, volume punching style and martinez would cut him to pieces

These niggas need to stop

If they don't, I might just drop from an aneurysm:lol:

One of the five greatest, no three greatest moments in BGOL history!
And then if that wasn't enough....

Just take the abuse, issue a sincere mea culpa, and move one. Nope, not how he wants to play it.
Well, were you right?

About the fight

It went as expected up until Foreman's knee went out. Roy Jones is at least twice as good as Lennox Lewis was and called the knee going out while Lampley and Kellerman were thinking Forman either tripped or slipped.
I know it was popular but Mercante was wrong in restarting the fight. Foreman's corner clearly wanted the fight stopped. I already knew that throwing in a towel isn't an automatic disqualification but Foreman's cornermen entering the ring was. Foreman had been taking a beating (not necessarily at the time of the throwing) and it's his corner's job to protect his well being long term. The pretense that no one knew where the towel came from was an insult to my intelligence. Good fight, though.

I don't see Miguel being an elite jr. middleweight because that would mean he would have to fight and beat even faster guys like Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez, neither of whom he would match up well against.

And just saying "I was fucked up." ends it so quick, just like arguing with your woman.

Exactly! I believe it's fools Gold for these fighters who have ONE good get healthy fight after a few beat downs and then IMMEDIATELY start talking that only big fights rhetoric. Sometimes, especially with a new trainer, you need to basically ease your way back (Cotto lucked up and won a Title on his first get healthy fight). If I'm Cotto, I taking a (not necessarily these fighters but just to make a point), Spinks, Brundage, Chavez Jr, Collazo type route, get better acclimated with the Jr. MW scenery and give Steward time to work on my flaws, etc. then dive in the deep end of the pool. I think to a point that was is issue after the Margarito fight. He got by with the Mosley win, but I would have stayed away from Pac for a minute to continue to rebuild.
