the top guy on your list, Charles Barkley was not given much of a chance to make it by the same "basketball gods". So his being mentioned here is like winning a title within itself, since he was such a longshot to even make it to the NBA to begin with.

Same thing goes for Marino. He got his starting job by attrition as he was the THIRD string QB and the first two guys got hurt so quickly that Shula had no choice but to play him. Sort of like a white Willie Beamon. The rest is history
