If Manning & Brady = Magic & Bird of NFL, who will be the NFL Michael Jordan?

As for the debate about who’s the best of this era, I prefer to think of Brady and Manning as Magic Johnson and Larry Bird: Two outstanding originals who pushed one another to exceptional achievements, and who finished their NBA careers in The Conversation.

You know what that means, right? Somewhere out there, the NFL’s answer to Michael Jordan is getting ready to obliterate all who came before and hijack the argument.

This got me thinking.

Remember the 80s? When Bird and Magic dominated NBA and their teams won like more than half the titles of the era.

I think the writer is right that Manning and Brady are the Magic and Bird of this era.

Both are fierce rivals who have had to go through each other's team to win Super Bowl's and each one is central to his team's success. Maybe Manning more than Brady but still - Patriots without Brady are borderline Playoffs team.

So if they are the Magic and Bird ... does that mean somewhere the is the NFL version of Michael Jordan out there?

Yeah I would have said Vick too because he was changing the game like Jordan did. Athletic ability out of this world with raw skill. Just never pulled it all together but I think he was going to that next season. :smh:

I don't think we will see another game changer for a while though.

The Michael Jordan of the NFL has already played well before Michael Jordan came in to the NBA. His name was Joe Montana.

I like Peyton, but this GOAT talk has to stop. Peyton's choked in too many big games and Brady's career is defined by Adam Venetieri. By the time Peyton retires I'll give him top 5, but if he wants to be amongst the all time greats like Montana (4 Superbowls wins) and Elway (5 Superbowl Apperances, 2 wins) he'll have to win at least 2 more.

A Guy like this

Philip Sims, #1 recruit at qb going to alabama.

Pro-style quarterback
Chesapeake (VA) Oscar Smith

Ht: 6-foot-2 (Event)
Wt: 183 lbs
Forty: 4.5 secs
Class: 2010 (High School)

Maybe not him, but I think someone coming In at QB doing what mike vick was supposed to do, and still may. I think even if Vick start shinin, they wouldnt let him be Jordan b/c of the "Dogs".

:yes::yes:This was easy because his name has been brought up everytime they've talked about Manning being the greatest. I wasn't even a fan of footballl during the Montana years and i'd take time to watch a 49ers game because i knew no lead was safe with Montana at quarterback, kinda like it is now with Manning

I'm a Montana fan mostly because I grew up watching him but if we are going off of SB wins and losses...

He stacks up well with Montana?

Manning has been a playoff BUST for most of his career. No comparison to Montana (who's 4-0 in Super Bowls, with 12 TDs and O INTs).

Not even close, Joe Cool was a legendary for the shit he did @ ND...then he came to the league & helped turn the 9ers into a champion. After that run was over, went to KC & got them to the AFC title game. Montana has the signature play in NFL history...on top of other moments like the Cotton Bowl win v. Houston, pick a superbowl highlight_____, the monday night game with KC, Bradshaw's era is defined by the Steel Curtain & these days roids. He's on Brady's level of right situation.

I fucking co-sign you good sir

I agree with Blunt that no single player can dominate football the way Jordan dominated the NBA. For that to happen, a player would have to play ironman football. Jordan was a scorer and a hell of a defender. The only player who I ever saw who could even come close to being an offensive and defensive scare in the NFL is Deion Sanders. Unfortunately he never got enough touches on offense, but plenty on special teams.

As far as QB's Montana will forever be the GOAT.

See you grew up on Montana like I did!

But Bradshaw has 4 Super Bowl rings and two Hall Of Fame recievers. Sounds like Montana-esque to me? :dunno:

Plus Bradshaw played in the era where you could damn near choke a QB out on the field and only get a 5 yard penalty!

I'm not saying he is but I'm just putting it out there...

Terry called his own plays, but Pitsburgh won 2 of those 4 on defense and running game. Joe was Mr. 4th Quarter, and not only that, Joe won PIVOTAL career/franchise defining games ON HIS ARM. Since we are using Jordan as an analogy, "The Catch" (Joe's Last second throw to Dwight Clark to beat the Cowpies) is analogous to that last second Jordan shot over Craig Ehlo. There are a plethora of games where Joe would throw a strike with seconds left on the clock to win the game.

Whats your point. To me, a "Jordan" player will dominate the game both athletically and intellectually. #1, the only position on the football field that would allow this is quarterback.

Manning will never be able to break off a 50+ yard run to make that a threat in his arsenal. Vick has already given a glimpse of what this threat can do. Nor does he have a cannon. At this point, Vick is the closest athletically to someone being able to dominate the game, but clearly he is not able to breakly down defenses like a "Manning", "Brady" etc. , yet.

This is what distinguished Jordan. We cannot just say the rings because there are other players with rings. IMO, it was HOW he did it. He was unguardable.

As more youth see models like Vick, McNabb, VY, Tavaris Jackson etc, its only a matter of time. Check Rivals.com, the number of "pro-style" black quarterbacks grows every year.

I hate to be playing devil's advocate here but I do remember Ronnie Lott heading up one hell of a defense in San Fran my friend...

And Bradshaw could slang that bitch too. Now Lynn Swann made some hellafide catches to save Terry from time to time but Jerry Rice saved Joe sometimes too. Just like Clark saved Joe on that pass.

I'm still with Joe but ain't nobody being fair in this bitch!

Terry Bradshaw said himself that he was green and that the Steelers won those first 2 IN SPITE of him.

Now you're right, the 9ers had a brutal defense back in the day. But let's look at that 81 Team. That team was garbage, Joe carried that team. Put Terry on that 81 9ers team, and The Cowpies win, put Joe on those Pittsburgh teams, and they would have had at least another 2.
