Iverson says "I'm not trying to figure out how to contribute to no team,"

I read all the comments and AI's spill. This guy competes every nite all nite, you sit the young niggas down to watch an All-Star. Cats with loot go to the games to watch All-Stars on the court not the bench. He still have game, that coach doesn't know how to coach. Plus, he's afraid of AI. How the fuck u're the coach and doesn't even talk to the man. Put AI next to you on the bench and get some guidance from him or some advice. That's whats up. The young can learn from the old and i bet they will sell more tickets. I'll go to Memphis to watch a game. Not with my man on the bench, they have no kind of a chance. None, son.

Its' the memphis cubs they brought A.I. down to that third world country to sell tickets.

Let him come off the bench in Cleveland when Brown as the King resting for the first 5 minutes of the second quarter. No telling when Delonte might decide to eat his .45 for breakfast, bring in some insurance.

Delonte bi-polar punk ass better worry about his charges.

Does he think before he speaks

Does he realize he's 33

He needs to stop talking to the media, they're going to keep quoting him, a la TO, and pretty soon he is going to look like nutty ass Steph.

They're going to cut their losses and waive his ass or do him like Detroit did at the end of the season last year.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
This nigga is a selfish ignorant fuck, but niggas give this bitch a pass because hes a washed up all star whos best is in the past.

Bench ?? are talking about coming off the bench ??? we seating here, i'm supposed to be the Franchise player but we here talking about coming off the bench :lol:

Yo.. this shit is not helping him or his team..and is actually going to hurt his chances of signing with another team.. he just doesnt get it :smh:

WHY THIS NIGGA JUST DONT HURRY UP AND SHOOT HIMSELF IN THE LEG IN A NEW YORK CLUB... the biggest joke/ choke artist/ hat eater/ selfish pompous bastard ever in sports...
He needs to realize there is no fucking "I" in Team.. get that shit thru your fucking head you dumb rich motherfucker...
thats why you never on a championship.
Thats why no championship contending team wants you on their roster.
thats why the critics and sports columnist love to bring up the "PRACTICE" argument when discussing your sorry ass career..
thats why every team that played with you is better the year after you left the team.
Thats why Carmelo Anthony cut off his braids cause he realized you were a fraud.

GROW THE FUCK UP...
I live in VA now and I hate when people even say he the best nba player from VA.. nah homie that belongs to Alonzo Mourning...

GTFOH and go pop yourself while driving off a cliff..

all th greats went to practice, but this nigga feels he dont need to practice.. why dont they just piss test him and get his ass out the league
:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:

I read all the comments and AI's spill. This guy competes every nite all nite, you sit the young niggas down to watch an All-Star.

Watch him do what exactly? Jack it up 23 times, not play Defense and integrate others into the flow of the game?

Cats with loot go to the games to watch All-Stars on the court not the bench.

And cats with real loot come to games to see the team win. Who gives a fuck about a selfish ninja scoring 34 points and the team losses by ten? That's bullshit.

He still have game, that coach doesn't know how to coach. Plus, he's afraid of AI. How the fuck u're the coach and doesn't even talk to the man.

Scared? No, AI knew he was coming to be the 6th man, and like a bitch, he can't handle it.

Put AI next to you on the bench and get some guidance from him or some advice. That's whats up. The young can learn from the old and i bet they will sell more tickets.

Who has Iverson ever taken under his wing and schooled? This fool is a cancer and a spoiled bitch. A ringless spoiled bitch by the way. :smh::smh:

I'll go to Memphis to watch a game. Not with my man on the bench, they have no kind of a chance. None, son.

Then you will go, and watch the team lose. Maybe, if AI took the 6th man role, he could also learn how to play team ball. Kinda Like Tiny did.

NBA players sometimes need to shut the fuck. Marbury, Spreewell, and soon to be Iverson are just talking themselves out of the league.

NBA money don't always last forever. get it while you can. look at Antoine Walker.

AI never learned diplomacy or negotiation or politics. I would guess it is because his mother spoiled him until he was old enough to be spoiled by adoring coaches. How the fuck did Thompson not have any positive impact on him in school? This negro is a 34 year old adolescent.

He'll get it 10 years from now and realize he was a dispshit.

Iverson will be alright, he has never had a coach to really stand up to him. Everyone knows that he wants to play ball more than anything so in the end he will do what he has to to get on the court. As long as Hollins is steadfast and doesn't succumb to A.I.'s demands, the team may be ok.

I hope my nigga A.I. is gonna enjoy his final year in the NBA

Yeah, A.I is done after this seaosn. This kind of attitude, no team is going to pick him up. The Grizzlies really only took him to sell some tickets.

If A.I wasn't sucha selfish prick and actually accepted the fact that he is a role player today, he could be on a championship calibre team competing for the ring he wants so badly.

You have scoring titles, MVPs, your own shoes, millions and milion of dollars, the all star games, why are you still being an ASSHOLE?

why does this nigga still think its 2000-2002? December 19, 2006 was the death of his career

I mean, who couldnt see this coming. This cat is a fuggin space cadet.

He really brings the statement there is no limit to stupidity to life.

nigga talkin like he got a bunch of options, talkin bout he didn't want to go to a rebuilding team and shit :hmm: ...it was either memphis or nothing..no other team offered a deal and if I remember correctly the only other teams interesed were miami and the bobcats...he could have played overseas or sat his ass at home..he is one of my favorite players of all time but he is wrong, but he is who he is and has always been...now that he is getting older it has finally bit him in the ass...he had a good run, took a team to the finals doing it his way and just lost the series to a superior team all 5'11 150 of him

Yeah man, I loved A.I growing up as a kid, he's definitely one of my favorite players of all time but it's hard to root for him today because of his shitty attitude. This year playing in Memphis could've been where he could showcase himself as being a team player and being willing to accept a role for the greater good of his team. The guy can still score the basketball and pass the ball. Imagine having that kind of fire power off the bench. He'd be good for 18-19 a night and every once in awhile, he'd explode for 35-36. But with him acting like sucha bitch today, this will definitely be his last year in the league.

you ever heard of larry brown?

I don't know what AI was thinking. Should have come here. He knows damn well Cleveland don't run any plays. Brown just has the cats get on the court and yell 'ball out'.

AI would fit in perfect. No offense is ran, take the ball to the rack and let one of our big stiffs get some garbage points off offensive rebounds. Shaq's new nickname could be Roc, cause all we would need him to do is pick up Lerbon and AI's trash and please try not to die of cardiac arrest trying to guard the pick and roll.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

You know what's funny, Charlotte actually needs him. They need a scorer, that's all they're really missing to compete for the 8th spot, especially with Raja Bell injured. The fact that Larry Brown came out early during the off season and said he didn't want him says a lot. At 69 he doesn't want to deal with that bullshit. He probably saw the situation in Detroit and said fuck that, he still hasn't matured.

He's rewritten his own Hall Of Fame bio, from one of the top three little men in NBA history, to a player who cared more about stats and playing than winning.

Title is taken out of context for the article, yet, that is exactly how he feels. One of the greatest individual players to ever play the game.

Once again the title of u'r thread is painfully misleading. He said nothing wrong. It's up to the GM or coach to try and figure out how he should be used or best contribute on the team. That is not iversons job, who said it was ????

He's a 1st ballot hall of famer whose past his prime but yet he still has the skills to contribute mightly on any given team. So it's a complete disrespect to the dude to take a backseat on a team where he's clearly the best player on it. Shit I would feel pissed too knowing I'm the best player but yet I'm not gettng the minutes I deserve. Anyone whose ever played sports and has been in that situation knows what I'm talking about. It's a natural reaction due to the competitive nature in you, it doesn't mean u'r selfish. If Kobe, Lebron,Jordan etc were asked to take a lesser or diminished role by coming off the bench cause their style of play doesn't mesh or gel with the system that is ran on a team, I sincerely doubt it that they would easily relinquish their starters role without a fight.

This situation should not be a controversy cause anyone who's a sport fan knew from the jump that Iverson was never gonna come off no damn bench on any team. That 's written in stone. So when the GMs brought him to memphis, they knew what they were getting, so why are they complaining(AI critics included lol).

Yours Truly......Professor

Take your dumb ass to bed. Great players learn how to make themselves better to contribute in a more positive fashion to their team. They also learn how to best utilize the skillset of the various teammates to effectively produce more on the court...i.e.. Jordan doing his players only morning sessions to gel better with his teammates.

The thread title is not misleading your simple-minded idiot. I quoted exactly what he said. You cant mislead a direct quote dummy...smh. Only a closed-minded, egomaniac, would say something as retarded as iverson to the press...that he is not trying to figure out how to contribute to no team..... that is exactly what he has been criticized for his entire career..that he is a chucker who hijacks the offense and cant play man to man defense and doesnt make his teammates better...he just fully admitted to the public that this will never change..

Your are serious embarrassingly idiotic. You need to ban yourself. You repeatedly vomit nonsense.

^^^

Its a bad quote. It is retarded to call the thread title misleading but that one quotation is the definition of a damning soundbite. The sentences immediately following that explain exactly what Iverson meant:

"I contribute to a team by just playing. That's it. I don't have to figure it out. Obviously, they signed me for a reason. They've been watching me play this game for 13 years, and they know what I do on the basketball court, so I don't have to figure out how I'm going to play or anything like that. I just go out and play basketball."

He's saying "The shit ain't that complicated. I've been playing this game for 2/3s of the lifespan of some players. I don't have to figure out how to contribute-- I'm Allen Iverson and just going out on the court and doing what I've always done is a contribution."

The comment sets Iverson up for a lashing by the press. It invites criticism and lacks tact. But its also the unvarnished truth and I have to applaud Iverson for not bullshitting and speaking his mind without worrying about the words that are going to be typed out about him.

The key words are "not trying to figure out." He's been playing this game for an eighth of a century-- how much figuring out can there be left to do? The impression many will create and that many will take away-- that he doesn't care about contributing or doesn't care about "no team"-- is plainly false.

The key words are "not trying to figure out." He's been playing this game for an eighth of a century-- how much figuring out can there be left to do?

That is not how I took it because I dont think he has ever really figured out how to play the game and make his team better. Iverson is an relentless chucker who doesnt think he needs to change his game. The.."not trying to figure out." to me is only putting into words what we have always been thinking. That he is not analytical enough to understand that in order to win, he must change his game to fit in better with whatever team he is on at the moment. His statement is simply saying that... I dont give a damn about re-modeling my game to make my team better... this is my style..you know it..an Im not going to rethink it and change it.

The statements following the intitial quote werent any type of clarification...it only furthered the initial ridiculous statement...he needs to understand that his hijacking of the offense, chucking, and lack of consistent effort on the defensive end is not going to get it done at this point in his career...teams can get that anywhere..and plus..he is too got-damn old when teams can give time to younger players who can give you the same output but have a longer future ahead of them..

It is not a bad quote.. I think that quote is going to end up encapsulating his entire career..

Why does it have to be either/or???

Winning isn't everything-- Fuck going the Mitch Richmond route, there's no real accomplishment in being on a championship team but not contributing. That's what sports are really about at the end of the day-- a sense of pride and accomplishment and proving your skills on the court/field.

If you're just going to be on the bench, you might as well not even be out there. Especially when you're a hall of famer and "one of the top three little men in NBA history." They hand out championship rings to ball boys, it seems-- Iverson certainly doesn't have to try to figure out that there's no contribution in that because its obvious to any true competitor.

Also, winning isn't even a part of the equation in Memphis-- his options are playing for a bad team or riding the bench on a bad team. I don't even see how you can argue that this is about statistics.
