have any of you brothas been real fat?

Tampa,

Cardio is key, bro. If you hit the weights hard instead ... you're gonna bulk up and transform the fat into muscle mass and as we all know - MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT. Cardio is what I'm all about.

6'3", 202lbs.

I've been 185 - 205lbs for the past 12 years steady.

My gym visits (4 - 5 times a week) =

- 50 - 55 minutes on the recumbent bike (burns 470 calories)
- Stretching
- Dumbbell curls + some overhead presses
- Lat' pulldowns
- Some machine pullbacks
- More curls
- More stretching
- Some ab work

Mad props, Jae.

Very disciplined approach you've got going and VERY SMART to keep a bottle of water nearby. Very smart!

5'9 and 175lbs right now, down from 207 in February... Here are a few things off the top that I did...

-Hit the weights 3 times a week
-Cardio two times a week
-No Junk food, well maybe a handful of chips a week
-No Soda, Juice, or any other sugar drink
-glass or bottle of water before every meal (shit I piss all day)
-Started eating breakfast
-Avoid fried foods
-Olive oil is the oil of choice

Motivation was not liking to look in the mirror... Now the motivation is challenging myself and all the compliments I get about the weight loss....

For example here is what I ate today....

8am - cup of cereal with some blueberries
10:30am - half banana
12:30pm - small bit of turkey breast and a half green pepper
3pm - that other half of the banana
6pm - two cups fruit salad
7:30pm - chicken breast, 3/4 cup brown rice, salad, and some green beans
9pm - small piece of cheese

Now before I eat I always put close to a full bottle of water in me, then finish it...

every few weekends I'll treat myself to a something greasy...

I think with out my occasional slip up I should have had another 10lbs off me by now... which would have had me at my goal...

GOOD POST!! I am about to start the "ghetto" quick weight lose center shit!! I have all the shit need to lose weight but without those fees. I am going to start next monday. If anybody give a fuck I will post my results every week. This plan is like a book. Stuff you can and can't eat, supplement, the whole nine yards!!:yes:: : yes

Damn I slept on this thread.. for the past couple of months I had been working my ass of prepping for basic training. All I can say is discipline and SACRIFICE pays off.. most people leave out SACRIFICE when they advise folks on weight loss. Its a thread I made a while back in the fitness forum that TROJANWHORE tries to bring up as an insult whenever she gets in her feelings.. check it out tho. I have never had the issues to the degree as some of the previous posters but even losing 10-15 lbs can seem like a struggle when you have to change things you normally do.. like eating habits and implementing a workout schedule. Im 6'-6'1" I went from 208 to 190ish in a little over 2 months. My issue was conditioning more than weight. Most of the weight came off the first couple weeks. Although it was not advised, I started out running EVERYDAY. Started at a quarter mile, and I added more distance as my body grew more comfortable. Now I just run 2 miles 3x a week. Coolingrunning.com was an EXCELLENT resource.. they have a plan laid out to take u from sitting on the couch to running 2 miles in weeks.. check it out. I rarely go to the gym but I used the 100pushups, 200situps and 200squats 6 week drills and they whipped me in shape pretty fast. I do try to make it to the gym @ least twice a week, even if its just for half a hour. I do 100 pushups and situps daily just to keep my body conditioned. I think everyone above has hit on the importance of diet and stretching so I wont Colin yall out with that.. GOOD LUCK tho and keep it up fam!!

there was a time where i ballooned up to 255 all fat...it was getting out of control and my father noticed and pretty much shamed me...signed up at the gym at my internship and never looked back

you;re giving him terrible advice. yes we all know muscle weighs more than fat, but the more muscle you have the more efficient your body is at burning fat. the goal shouldn't be the number on the scale, the goal should be losing body fat. also the recumbent bike's calorie loss is insignificant. i'm assuming he's in his mid 20,s to early 30's he wants to focus on keeping his heart rate around 120-125. calorie burning is ok, but fat burning is the only way to do it. i say lift as heavy as possible. get as many grams of protein as you weigh. if you weigh 200lbs, then get 200 grams of protein. don't be afraid of supplements. get some creatine, also if you want fast results buy a product called "recreate" made by usb labs. you can get this at the vitamin shoppe. you will shread body fat with great ease. with a little determination, and some hard work, you will be looking like me.....well, not exactly, but you will look better, and have more confidence. take it from me....i'm one of those cats that when i walk by, niggas be grilling their wives to make sure she doesn't take a second look.

Im down to 265. My goal is 205 Im 5'9". I was fucking huge, but dropped a ton of weight over summer (began in may). Shit is slow though and real hard. The only way im able to lose weight is to keep my calories around 2k and bust my ass in the gym. I hit the stair master on friday and that monster tested my manhood--but i felt good after i finished my 20 minutes

stepmill_sm916.jpg

im benching/working out with 85 lbs dumbbells :(. its pissing me off because other dudes are moving more weight. i know thats immature as shit, but hey :dunno: how do i break this plateau? im working out hard as hell as it is.

My diet is clean with plenty of protein in the form of supplements. Im going to get back on the raw foods this week though--i hit outback steakhouse and had a porterhouse friday :smh:

I played college football and basketball at 210lbs in the mid 80s I had gotten up to 375lbs in 2003 but went on the Atkins diet and lost 135lbs. But Atkins is not the way to do it. It made me sick and I've gained back 60 pounds since then. At 6'2" I should be about 220 and I am now working towards that with healthy eating, lots of water and exercise.

Any of you brothers do any fasting?...it was worked wonders for me physically, mentally and spiritually....you really have to be dedicated

get on that treadmill and put it at it`s HIGHEST incline and put the speed up to 4.0
walk for 40 mins
that should burn about 550 calories
and dont eat more than 1500 calories
do this 5 times a week
and drink atleast a half a gallon of water EVERYDAY,cut out ALL juice and sodas

Good work and keep it up to the original thread poster.

Consistency is most important if you are serious.

When you start out, don't go to the gym all gung ho. What happens most of the time with newbies and their first time in the gym is they go in, go all out, and they are sore for a good week and a half after that, much too sore to come back. YOU NEED TO DEVELOP A HABIT OF BEING IN THE GYM FIRST AND FOREMOST. I rather you start going everyday for 15 minutes at a time than 3 times a week.

YOu want to start with a base program for 12 weeks or so. Do one body part a day, 4-5 sets of 8 each exercise. For example, if you are doing biceps, do 4 sets of 8 barbell curls, 4 sets of eight dumbbell curls, 4 sets of 8 preacher curls, 4 sets of 8 reverse curls. 1-1.5 minutes of rest in between sets. Always finish up with cardio.

Don't bore yourself in the gym. 1 hour in the gym is more than enough to get in a solid workout.

Thanks to and all the cats with their plan. I'm 5'8 around 260 or so. I've always been athletic, even today I still go and play full court bball or flag football with the fellas and not be huffin for wind. I've normally been around 225 or so but I got laid off and got lazy so the pounds just crept up. I do have a question though. Do most of ya'll take supplements or just let nature take its course? Also how many of you all work out with their wife or girlfriend? I keep hearing people say that it's better if you can get your significant other to work out with you. Good luck to everybody too.

there's a lot of bad information in this thread in terms of losing weight.
whether it worked for some of you or not, but why drive a distance of 90 miles in 1st gear?

damn brothas....I've always been slim....i can eat whatever and not gain anywieght I'm a hard gainer.....

good luck to ya'll...

control your diet...

and more cardio...and Boxing...Muay Thai will shed lbs quickly....

Good for you.

your hitting a plateau because you cant make significant improvement when trying to lose weight, and at the same time gain muscle. Im not saying its impossible, because most people that start losing a lot of weight can also build muscle if they weight train during the process. but nothing big.

You have to eat a higher caloric intake to obtain gains in lifting weights. right now you are going under your caloric intake, then piling calorie burning exercises on top of it. that all equals to you not gaining no significant strength improvements.

fellas I have no wieght problem.....

can someone tell me what creatine does....and is it bad for you?

Great advice, JD.

That's exactly why so many newbies fail. Especially the "AFTER NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION CROWD". They go in there all gung ho ... and tear a shitload of muscle fibers thinking MORE IS BETTER ... and end up losing interest very quickly in what they'd initially set out to do. Taking it slow ... and doing the workout/exercises properly is what the real heads do ... and you save your body, see results quicker, and don't lose interest. Good advice, JD!

lol.....

I wasn't showing off....if it came out like that then i apologize....

I wish I could gain 10-15 more lbs...

I'm 6'2-6'3 185 lbs

and I'm a hardgainer....I can eat whatever and not gan a lb...but I have friends that blow up eating a big mac.....

anyway Boxing and MT are huge on cardio and I suggest anyone trying to get in shape to get up on that....

Prophetic,

I'm in the same boat in that I have a tough time bulking up. Played soccer for 13 years / basketball all my life / track and field (100/200/4x100m) for 6 years / some baseball, and hit the gym. I've been 185 - 205lbs for the past 12.5 years now from age 18 - 30. I look like a long distance/cross country runner, but lack the endurance for same ... but have fast-twitch muscle fiber in place from the other sports over the years. I've got an ectomorphic body shape (as opposed to endomorphic or mesomorphic) so I just keep continuing with lots of cardio to keep lean/toned and some weight-based exercise for my delts/traps/back/biceps/quads.
