I really didn't expect Cyborg's stand up to cause that many problems to Gina, but Gina's overhand right (Which is Gina's best punch) looked slow and very weak compared to Cyborg's punches. It seemed like for every 1 punch Gina threw Cyborg threw 3 which Gina couldn't handle and ended up turtling up. Toward the end of the round I thought Gina was looking a little bit better. Using some nice jabs and movement to keep away from Cyborg's power and she would have probably made it to the second round if she had just pulled guard at the end instead of turtling up like she did.they kept talking about santos' power, but to me it was more her placement than anything else.
none of her strikes put carano on queer street, but it was obvious that carano didn't like the sting either.
santos got off quicker too. now i see why santos was a 2-1 favorite.
I was wondering that too, but if you look at the fight you see that Cyborg rolled and Gina lost her full mount position. Gina looked over and saw her right leg was exposed for another possible submission attempt and stood up and backed off.one other person wondered why carano chose to stand up instead of maintaining full mount. any MMA fans have an explanation? was she worried about getting submitted from the bottom by a BJJ practitioner?
I was definitely surprised, but I think Gina is probably used to being able to control weaker fighters with just that head lock. Cyborg was just too strong and was able to push Gina right off which kept putting her in bad position and exposing her back.were you surprised that carano did such a POOR job in the clinch standing up? never establishing over/under or body control?
