Palm Pre Owners Step This Way

NFL Mobile Live Coming to Palm Pre August 1st
http://www.precentral.net/nfl-mobile-live-coming-palm-pre-august-1st
A Sprint support page indicates that NFL Mobile Live will be coming to the Palm Pre on August 1st. We just heard that we should be able to expect webOS 1.1 within a month, but we didn't know if it would come with more apps. We can't say for sure that NFL Mobile Live will come with 1.1, but it seems like a solid guess to us. In the comments on that 1.1 post, DSulls points us to a Sprint Support site about NFL Mobile live for the Palm Pre, indicating some excellent news:

* NFL Mobile Live will be delivered via an OTA Update
* It will be pre-loaded on all Palm Pre phones on August 1st

Similar to Sprint's NASCAR app, NFL mobile live allows you to get live audio of every regular season game, Live video of certain NFL Network games, and live NFL Network video 24/7. Not to mention "Red Zone Alerts" to let you know when a team is likely to score. Since Sprint requires an Everything Data plan, there won't be any additional charge for the app.

Color this Vikings-fan-in-Florida excited, following my precious Purple will soon be a lot easier.

New in the App Catalog: Spaz gets Photo Integration, and other updates.
Another day for updates and no new apps... Update for Tweed, Spaz, AccuWeather and LikeMe Mobile.

Like the title says, Spaz at last added Photo Integration/Twitpic to their application in build v0.5.0! I'm sorry, Tweed, I'll play with Spaz for a little while now.

Release Note for Tweed (Note: Update for Photo Integration happening this week for Tweed)

Hey yall we gettin 4g before anyone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sprint Outsources Network Operations to Ericsson, is LTE in Their Future?
http://www.precentral.net/sprint-outsources-network-operations-ericsson-lte-their-future
The story here is very 'inside baseball' but bear with us just a little bit as we try to work through Sprint's most recent announcement. The essence is that Sprint is handing over all network operations to Ericsson - which is to say:

Ericsson assumes responsibility for the day-to-day services, provisioning and maintenance for the Sprint-owned CDMA, iDEN and wireline networks

Sprint keeps ownership of their network assets -- but honestly they have less of a stake than you might think there since they sold off a bootload of towers one year ago and leased service back. 6,000 Sprint employees will become Ericsson employees (and we wouldn't be surprised to hear about layoffs in the near future), but customer service and technical support will remain in-house. Apparently the deal has been in the works for a long time.

For Sprint customers, here are what we think the implications are:

* the potential for better network quality as Ericsson has been doing this sort of thing all over the planet for a very long time
* the possibility that Sprint's 4G plans will include both WiMAX and LTE.

The first point is exciting but a little scary (Ericsson could botch it up, after all). The second point is, well, surprising. Verizon and AT&T are both committed to moving to LTE (which is a GSM technology at heart, basically), but many had wondered whether Sprint would try to push out WiMAX handsets. InformationWeek implies it's a possibility, as does gigaom. Then again, Sprint CTO Barry West wasn't too keen on the technology back in April.

If nothing else, it's something to watch. Sprint seems to be turning themselves into more and more of a services middleman instead of a traditional cell carrier. They're spinning off physical assets faster than a dervish -- WiMAX went to Clearwire (with Sprint as a 51% investor), lots of towers went to TowerCo (with Sprint leasing service), and now the maintenance of their core network technology has gone to Ericsson.

It all lowers Sprint's operating costs, sure, but the relentless march of technology is very good at cutting out the middle man -- and Sprint is looking more and more like the Middle Man of wireless service. We're not going to call them an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) in all but name, but we're not going to say you're wrong if you do.

On another note - Steve Jobs bought me a Palm Pre!
I bought a macbook pro and there is a rebate for a ipod up to $229 - i bought a ipod touch 8gb - im selling that shit and getting the rebate.
Pre - $299 - $100 rebate - $210 for the ipod touch = $10 Apple paid me to sell the touch and get a Pre

Oh yeah hey yall - I got a ipod I always use when workin out or driving and I just tested out my Pre for listening to music instead- that shit blew the ipod out of the water in sound quality wtf?

Battery life is shit :smh: aint no test like a real world road trip using gps and listening to music
gps alone killed my 50% of my battery in a little over an hour

Just got my pre. First site was bgol. First post is this one. This phone is sick and the keyboard aint that bad.

Great minds think alike.

Had it since launch. Really wish we didn't have to wait for the ability to change notification sounds. As a 650/700p/centro owner, I have faith that webos will be a beast in a few months.

I'm using videora ipod converter to watch movies on it. Anybody got something with a better interface?

You arent lying about being a beast. Lets see who talks shit when we have real flash in the browser in October. Theyre gonna have to rollout power saving fixes before that though or there will be hell to pay.

Have you tried handbrake?

oh hey yall - i got a motorola micro-usb car charger for $5 at Buy.com and another micro-usb cable from Palm for $9 at Buy.com
becareful with car chargers and cables that wont power up your device or will do the shit slowly or wont transfer data

Damn you for swindling Apple before me

I haven't tested out playing songs from the Pre yet but had a feeling it would be good. The sound quality on my ringtones alone is ridiculous. I damn near go deaf everytime someone calls me late at night since it's on my bedside table. It scares me right out of a deep sleep at times too.

Let me know how the car charger works out for you. I tried to use a mini-usb to micro-usb converter w/ the mini-usb car charger for my Garmin but no luck. :(

I would keep the Touch but how the fuck am I gonna look with a pre and a touch? (like someone who knows his phone's battery cant hang )

let me add some info on the sounds better part- this was with my truck's stereo that it sounded way better - same tracks too

on the car charger i was reading reviews on precentral or one of those sites that has a store too and ran into the incompatibility problems - the motorola charger is for cell phones but it is a high powered charger-not sure of the actual specs- and people have been using it with great results. The Palm charger with the USB port and microusb cable seems to get mixed results. The Sprint charger does its thing- the sprint charger is $30 the motorola is $5. The only negative I've heard is it has a blue light on it .

Ill be glad when that other micro-usb cable gets here. That touchstone base is wild on this glass desk it fuckin sticks to it like glue or something.
I was wrong before, I was mixing up micro-usb and mini-usb when I said the cables didnt fit.

You dont want to set it to mute? Mute doesnt friggin effect sprintnav either fyi.
My ringtones sound ill on this joint. I didnt realize the volume for ringtones was separate and when i crunk it up i started laughin. That shit could be obnoxious real easy.
People have been complaining alot about customizing ringtones, vibration settings and the always on lock and clock when charging via touchstone. I think the exchange update should be cool. Man I really like that we can remotely erase the phone with the touch of a button from Palm's site. No add-on software like with winmo for that feature.

webOS 1.1 coming soon.
webos11-slide-precentral.jpg

If you were hoping for more system sound configurability, better notification control, or an equalizer in the music player (heck, we'll settle for bass and treble), your wait might be nowhere close to over -- but the good news is that it appears there's some sort of update on the way for Pres in the field that's significant enough to justify a 0.1 bump in webOS' version number to 1.1. Corporate types will get all fired up over better managed Exchange policy integration with support for device wipe after failed PIN attempts, auto PIN lock, minimum password complexity, and a bunch of other things that your average Pre owner isn't going to give a flying iPhone about. Perhaps more interesting to everyone else is the claim that additional built-in apps are a possibility for 1.1, though there's no detail there -- it could be best-of-breed stuff culled from the App Catalog, new first-party apps, or a combination. PreCentral's hearing "within 30 days" for the release, so go ahead and get your firmware upgrade pants on now just in case.

well it seems like the shutting down when you slide the phone up its a pre wide issue and sprint is allowing you to exchange the batteries...seems like it was a battery design issue(too small)...but if youre too lazy or busy like me you can opeen the back of the pre up access the battery and cut a piece of thicker paper in the shape of the battery.... lay it on top of the battery close the battery door...viola no more issues

Props on the handbrake. That's more like it.

Pimp my pre was on the right trail, but I'm looking for the next ringo pro. I need different tones for different contacts and email. I refuse to understand why this wasn't included, but I'm patient. I'm sure the development community will crack this asap. Bring on the upgrades.

If you go into contacts - edit - under the phone number is "set a ringtone"

Makk good looks on the car charger info

No doubt, let me know what solution you go with. Hey how do you like your mac? I just copped a macbook pro and this shit is fiyah. 7 hour battery life :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
shit wakes up from sleep instantly :eek::eek::eek:

Can the Palm Pre record video?

Not yet. It will eventually via update.

I may go the Motorola route as well. $5 isn't hurting my pockets too bad these days

I love my macbook. The battery life is nice as hell, it powers on/off really fast & the memory utilization is incredible. I only have 2GB DDR3 RAM but was able to open up 5 demos of Reason, 1 window of Logic Pro & Firefox without any lag in performance.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Landscape email viewing...

While on the main email screen (where you see favorite folders) type in RocknRollHax Type the caps while holding the shift key. This will give you landscape mode for email reading. You'll need to do it each time you open email (after closing the card but not after minimizing it).

yeah the part where you have to do it each time makes it worthless to me.
that guide also has the codes for developer mode and other cool stuff

word - I have a couple of high power desktops so i copped the 13in and I havent even gotten to multitaskin yet. This joint is just waaaaaay better than in hackintosh mode. Im thinkin about droppin 6 bills on 8gb of ram

Anyone got the Touchstone charger?? I would love to have one ofr stunting purposes, but I dont want to drop $70.
I have it. Its tight. The bottom of the charger stand has some weird shit on it that makes it like a suction cup on flat surfaces.
you might be able to find the back cover for $19 and the charger for $29 somewhere like on amazon which is about 10 bucks cheaper but thats as good as it gets
also be sure to buy another microusb cable if you get it otherwise you will be forced to unplug the charger in order to transfer files to your Pre

i just went and looked at the pre... damn it is nice!

I thought it was going to be all big and round, the shit was pretty sleek and slim actually

the keyboard was small... but i don't think that will be an issue, you'll get used to it

the screen was beautiful, the touch screen stuff worked well, the speaker was surprisingly strong... I may be sold

Had dinner with the fam last night and my brother-in-law was showing me stuff on his pre and I messed around with the browser for the 1st time.

The browser coupled with Sprint's data speeds make the internet experience on the Pre remarkable

The more I play with this phone the more I fucking want it. Trying to be paitent though.

Do you know if they resolved the issue with being able to un-install the homebrew apps yet?
Not sure. I know the installation method has changed away from the email hack which was patched since it is a security flaw. It should be in the documentation in that link I posted.

Question...while you have the Pre docked for listening to music or whatever, does it not charge it? It sounds like it doesn't?

I'm waiting on the Verizon Pre to drop, does anyone have any info on when that will be. A couple months back I heard around the end of the year.

It gives you the option of whether you just want to charge the device, use it as an usb HDD or transfer multimedia. If you choose any of the latter then you won't be able to make/receive calls or texts until disconnected from that mode.

Have any of you considered rooting or have rooted your Pre as of yet? The growing # of homebrew apps is starting to get tempting.

while on the touchstone or car charger it charges while you do whatever
same with usb mode and charge mode from the usb cable

verizon wont have the pre until next year at least
the only gsm pre is in vietnam and it isnt out yet
o2 and another company in europe will have a gsm pre soon - you could buy one from europe on the internet but the price will be $500++++

yeah I found out it charges in usb hdd mode - i had it plugged in as a hdd overnight and afterward it was at 100% battery life and before that it wasn't.
