As the popularity of the Pre continues to gain steam, it was only right that a thread get's created for it. Let's use this as a forum to discuss all news/issues/questions pertaining to the Pre.

And looks like we can expect to receive new apps in their app store by the end of this week

Source - http://www.prethinking.com/home/200...xpansion-of-applications-starting-this-w.html
You heard it here first! Confirmed by a number of devs that got accepted in the Early Access program, developers can now submit their apps to Palm for consideration to be included in the Beta App Catalog, starting from today. Not knowing the averge approval time for app submissions, we should start seeing the influx of apps to the App Catalog starting from today, tomorrow, or within the next week.

The lack of apps on the Pre has been what pulled back many potential Pre consumers. With "thousands" of Early Access Devs and Palm opening the SDK to the public soon, the App Catalog will no doubt be exploding with great apps to compete with Apple's App store by the end of this Summer.

I predict that the App Catalog will expand from 30 apps to about 80 apps by the end of next week.

What was send to Early Access Developers:

We are pleased to announce a limited expansion of access to the Beta Application Catalog for our SDK early access partners. Starting today, you can submit your application for consideration to be included in the Catalog.

Id really like to see an on-screen keyboard. I hate to slide out the keyboard for a simple text reply or something like that. Also they need Voice dialing.

it takes a half a second to pull out the keyboard and u make way less mistakes

I 100% agree with the voice feature though

that is the only reason why i havent copped one yet

dude in the sprint store said a company named nuance communications is creating some free hot voice shit for the phone though

cool .....I am inching closer and closer to getting this phone... I would like to see what improvements are made in the next couple of months though

LET THIS SPACE BE A HATER FREE ZONE

They really need to get the ball rolling on the SDK for the WebOS fully deployed. Apps are coming way to slow. Damn shame too. The background applications could make this phone a true beast. Especially apps like Beejive, Loopt etc.

No i just fucking with you.

Earlier today I noticed something my TouchPro never had when it came to phone calls in that it has a sensor that turns off the screen whenever your face is close. It used to piss me off that I was on a call & hitting the Start button or other buttons.

I bought a Pre a couple days and have been fucking loving it.

But no visual voicemail sucks :(

Considering getting one of these, it's between the pre and the LG xenon. I currently have the Instinct but I do not like the on screen keyboard.

I had the touch pro before the pre and want video back on it. I never used it, but want it back. Universal search extended on emails would be good as well.

Yeah they hipped me to that in the Sprint store when I bought.

I also hear that the ability to change the text and email alert tones is coming...

Sweet! The tone for texts & emails is too low & short for my taste right now but ringtones are loud as hell at maximum volume. I damn near jumped outta my bed one time when someone called me late at nite while I was asleep.

What best do u like about it?

* The UI is super smooth and intuitive.
* Youtube video quality is great.
* The web browsing is awesome, easily as good as my g/fs iphone.
* The music player is good.

Overall, it really is one the best phones to come to Sprint. As for as apps go, it isn't fucking with the iphone, and I doubt it ever will. But everything else, it really is a great phone.

The only thing that sucks about the phone is that the battery life is pretty bad. With moderate web browsing and and music player, your shit will completely drain out a few hours. If you're on WIFI, or doing talking on the phone, it will drain out faster.

Don't forget the camera quality is good as hell too. I hope the new updates will push zoom & video recording abilities to the phone. As for the apps, I think it will get close to Iphone store level but keep in mind that the Iphone has been out for quite some time now so there are a lot of jailbroken apps that have been made during that time. It's only a matter of time before jailbreak for the Pre is common & then we'll really see the apps flooding in.

I bought mine the day it came out, and I've been loving it ever since. I posted this forum,http://www.everythingpre.com/forum/palm-pre/, awhile back. They are up to date on everything pre. For those waiting on apps, theres a few homebrew apps that are out and they're simple to install. Everything you need to know about the homebrew apss are here http://www.precentral.net/how-install-homebrew-apps-without-rooting-post-104-update
Isn't the only bad thing about some of those homebrew apps is that you can't un-install them?

I hadn't heard about that. I think you'd be able to delete the apps, but don't quote me on that. The only apps you can't delete are the ones pre-installed on the phone like the nascar app. I just found out about the homebrew apps for the pre today. I haven't had a chance to try one, now you got me a little nervous.

There's no limit in what devs can accomplish these days... Or maybe it was Palm's openness to hackers? Either way, the Dev Team behind PimpMyPre has released a homebrew app that you can install on your Pre-cious right now without hacking/rooting. That's not the end of it, the app let's you customize your...wait for it...Notification sounds! Now you can drop that boring notification sound to something you prefer.

This will be the first of many, many homebrew apps to come.

How to get the App:

1) Click here to send yourself an email with the link OR Email yourself with this link: http://pimpmypre.com/pmptemp/com.pmp.app.pimpmypresounds.ipk (The app will only install if you open it via the Mail App on the Palm Pre)

2) Open the link from your Palm Pre via the Email App.Your Pre will freeze for a few seconds.

3) You can now find the 'Pimp My Sounds' app on the first page of Apps on your Pre.

File is back online.

Updates:

* Ability to toggle between the default and your tones.

You still can NOT delete the App after installation, they're working to fix this ASAP.

HIT THE LAUNCHER BUTTON... THEN LIST APPS... THEN SOFTWARE THEN TOUCH THE APP YOU WANT AND THE DELETE BUTTON POPS UP!

IT DOESNT WORK FOR THE STUFF THAT CAME PRELOADED BUT OTHER APPS IVE TRIED WORKS SO FAR

I know about that, but does that work for homebrew apps?

Actually you can kill the screen on the pro while talking... pretty simple edit. I thought about the pre but those keys made it pretty useless for me. I got the pro because I have push email for work and text but my fingers + pre keyboard = no deal.

Nice phone definitely but don't like being limited to 8 gigs either. Next version needs micro sd though... or do it like the n97 and do internal plus sd. Got to play around with it when they were training store reps the week before it dropped and those were really my only complaints.

Whoever develops the first on screen keyboard for this device will become very wealthy.

I was going to try to do it as one of my hustles but I've got too many other projects to work on so this is my gift to bgol for those that didn't see it.

The phone has been out for a month:confused:

i played with one while gettin gmy 8830 looked over, it wasnt nearly as bad as people tried to make it seem small keyboard worked surprisingly well.

but i talked to a guy thats at the call center and he said bberry is dropping a toure or something like that said its a step up from the bold more less and although its nice to have something to play with etc I gotta have stability in my phone

I think at some point they will have an on screen keyboard. Why?

1) Because there are actually people that want it.

2) The keyboard on the Pre is only meant to be used in portrait. so if you want to surf the internet or say use a spreadsheet in landscape, you have to keep reorienting the device when you want to enter text.

3) A virtual Keyboard it totally reconfigurable.

I think its good to have the option.

PS: Its a shame Palm didn't allow the keyboard to swing down so it would be under the screen for landscape usage. People would have lost their minds. :D
