TMZ on Michael Jackson

It's a sad day in news media when a tabloid site is consistently trumping you on what seems to be the most reliable news and info.

:smh:

I know right. TMZ has been on point. So sad that a media outlet like CNN could not even verify his death on time, and TMZ had the info for hours prior to any other media outlet announcing it.

TMZ is allowed to take a "gamble" like that especially since people don't expect much from them. CNN has a more "respectable" following so they have to be 110% sure.

I feel that, but I feel burnt by CNN as I had multiple texts & messages with the news of MJ's death coming through and I was holding on to hope waiting for CNN to announce something. Turns out, MJ was dead long before he even left the house. :smh:

I don't have cable so fuck CNN regardless. Shit BGOL had the "official" word on it before any website/TV station did.

lol@CNN
reminds me of that first time they said Bush won that election.
Wonder who they got that information from..lol

btw...TMZ just put up an audio of the 911 call.
..........and CNN and other top notch news outlets are awaiting 911 tapes.
Hilarious

Who runs TMZ?

they say the guy on the tape thats doing CPR is the Doc.
but strangely he doesnt know what to do...doesnt know CPR etc.
if it is the doc on the phone...what type of doc is he?
i think the doc gave him to many meds...and now he';s on the run because he fears for his life.
not fearing his life because of the cops..but because of the fans.

i think MJ fans would kil the Doc if they found him.
Kinda reminds me of the guy that caught that baseball that cost the cubs that playoff game.
dude started gettign death threats from the cubs fans and the whole 9.
he had to quit his job and move...lol

As someone said it's not so much who runs it it's who's working for them and what they do to get the scoop. And just about anybody w/ a cameraphone that lives in that area (check what TMZ stands for) pretty much is on the "payroll" as anything they come across that could pass for celebrity news they send that shit straight to TMZ knowing that they will run w/ it if they believe it as opposed to CNN who has to wait for confirmation and shit.

Maybe that's because CNN is a legit news outlet and TMZ is a gossip site. You don't announce someone's death over the air when the hospital and/or other officials haven't done so yet. You deal with facts, and not scoops from unnamed sources (even if they turn out to be true later on). You try to get it RIGHT, and not just first.

But as it turns out, first was right. And furthermore, CNN reported that he had lapsed into a coma in the hospital. That now seems to be false since he was apparently deceased at the scene.
check and mate, bitch

If you are stalking someone famous and something news worthy happens to happen while you are stalking you would be first on the scoop too.

true i was the 1st person to cconfirm his death and i got my info from tmz,by the way the genius moderator deleted my thread.

No, they reported the info that they had. That he was found unconscious at the scene and couldn't be revived. Later they said that he was in a coma at the hospital. All true.

That now seems to be false since he was apparently deceased at the scene.

No, you idiot. The doctors worked on him for an hour in the hospital. He died at 2:26 PST, an hour after the call. Didn't you listen to Jermaine's and the hospital's statements??

CNN just reported the info from the hospital and other legit sources as it became available. That's what serious newspeople do.

check and mate, bitch

What a dumbfuck. :smh:

Tmz doesnt rely on commentators, Associated press, and Reuters for their info
they actually put people wit cameras on the scene

Sad that tabloids are puttin in more work but what are ya gonna do

c/s
they got people all over the place wit cameras on waitin for shit to pop off

TMZ does gangsta style reporting. They don't care about privacy issues or respect for family members. They just want to be the ones to break a story. The networks hear much of the same information but try to wait until the appropriate time and way to release the information. Plus, if TMZ gets a story wrong who cares? But if CNN or NBC get a sensitive story wrong they risk the network’s credibility.

Let me let you guys in on a little secret. What print media has the largest circulation and the best copywriters in the business? I "steal" their headlines/copy and modifiy it to suit my needs.

National Enquirer

You know the articles are bullshit. But, you matter how hard you try, their headlines on the front page always get your attention.

Fuck you and Jermaine... the EMTs said he was dead, he was dead. Period.

TMZ is basically doing this to all the "legitimate" news media outlets..

Bottom line is that regular news media outlets are failing by the wayside and falling. From the looks of it the "guerrilla" style of gathering news is what works today. We are in the fucking information age if these media outlets have not realized this then they are in serious trouble.

I understand getting it right and getting facts straight, but it is a sad day if fucking CNN or other major news outlets have to quote a fucking tabloid site like Hollywood.tv or TMZ. Shit, like someone rightfully said we saw the same thing today with the release of the 911 audio tape. CNN was still waiting on it, and TMZ and others had the shit in hand and online already.

Times have changed, and the big media outlets have to get with the new system and shape up.

Just because "garbage-style news reporting" is IN right now, doesn't mean you have to encourage it.

They didn't quote TMZ. They quoted the L.A. Times, a REAL news organization.

If you're happy with CRAP news reporting then you're welcome to it. The internet has made people more stupid anyway. TMZ doesn't have to answer to anyone. They just put out whatever they want. That's not responsible news coverage. Just more dumbing-down for dumb viewers.

What new system??? Everything CNN reported was CORRECT and official, with all sources listed. TMZ never listed its sources. That's called GOSSIP, not news reporting. Good for them that they got a good tip from someone, but that's not how you run a news organization. Everything should always be closely investigated, multi-sourced and verified.

Tmz Was On Point..Funny thing is that most of the news channels just gave the fuck up and started referencing new updates to TMZ.

I'm not going to go back and forth with you over this. Again, CNN and other news outlets fell asleep on this stumbling around trying to get facts and info.

How in the hell is everything they reported correct?

They said MJ was in a coma. WRONG!

I have been watching CNN all day, and they are using video clips from Hollywood.tv. Are they not?

It is not about CRAP news reporting. It is about reporting the FACTS which is what the fuck TMZ did. Dead is dead, not in a coma, or other shit like that :smh:

Do not get me wrong, I am by no means saying TMZ is a reliable news source, but I give them props for getting accurate news out there as they have done in this situation.

Let's see how long TMZ lasts versus CNN. Not that I give a fuck about either one. But there's a helluva lot more to journalism than just getting the scoop.

Bloggers and online news keep the networks honest. The major networks could easily lie to the public and cherry pick facts at will if it weren't for outlets like TMZ, twitter and citizen journalists. They had a thing on PBS last year about how the major news outlets got rid of most of their investigative reporters to save money. A street or investigative reporter used to be like a police detective back in the day. They lived in their cars chasing stories all day and didn't see their desk until it was time to file those stories. they paid informants, chased leads and followed clues to get a story. Now have those same "reporters" sitting in front of a PC all day staring at news feeds and blogs for their info.

The reason we get our info faster than them is because they are finding their info from the same sources and by the time they go through their red tape and fact checking, the story is broken. What was the last major news story that a major news outlet actually broke? Even with political and government news, they source press secretaries and press releases, they don't go after stories, they have them handed to them pre-packaged. "Investigative journalism" for the networks is shit like luring pervs to preset locations and stinging them, filming mini-documentaries or filing freedom of information acts for shit that happened 3 years ago and then "breaking" it as news. Citizen reporting is about the only way you are going to get up to date info these days because the major outlets are not gonna pay for it.

Another problem is that a lot of "local" newspapaers in major cities are now simply reporting national news or doing local fluff. I can guarantee you the L.A. times did not get the MJ story from an L.A. source, that story probably travelled around the world once before they were even aware of it. The model used to be that national news outlets covered national and world news, but all of the national news that broke in local areas was fed to the national outlets through local affilliates that often got their info from local print reporters. You don't see that anymore because there are no local reporters anymore, only citizen journalists being exploited by lazy assholes with the title "reporter".

It was funny that CNN was still saying he was in a coma when 5 other sources pronouned him dead.
