Pocket PC Owners come on in

This is exactly how I feel about WM right now...Redmond is doing what they do best...dragging their feet and giving us bullshit updates like Wm 6.1 and WM 6.5
It's like the bullshit Windows Me update for Win98. Each day they delay releasing Windows Mobile 7 puts them further behind. It was one thing when their main competition was just the Iphone OS but now both Android & WebOS have come in & shit on everything Win Mobile is doing. I feel like I'm running Windows 95 while everyone else is rocking Windows 7 or Mac's Snow Leopard.

It was a toss up between Android or WebOS for me. But since T-Mobile is the only phone running Android so far & I'm on Sprint, it looks like it'll be WebOS for me. I wonder if anyone has managed to put a stable Android on a TouchPro as of yet.

The Pre is Palm OS, so of course you can get apps for free. same as with winmo apps. They can be cracked as well. I havent used Palm in a few years, but i may have some warez sites on my pc somewhere.

yeah i know there's the emulator but for some reason im thinkin these bitches are gonna try that iphone subscription app thing and since i dont know about that i wasnt sure if it has been hacked etc - i dont wanna be stuck with a useless phone thats fast and new

symbian

check out the stats

winmobile is dope and all but i feel like im using win95 on a cell phone while others are rockin XP

you can..there are some homebrew apps out there for it already

you can change the interface to your liking...the phone is highly customizable

yea a BIG difference...webOS is a brand new OS

man- that nokia is sounding good but changing carriers is not what im lookin for- sprint is the only good one round here

is android really that hot or is it the promise of future hotness?

I just thought about it & it both frustrates me & makes me :smh: at the same time. Windows Mobile is so far behind that it needs 3rd party apps like Mobile Shell or TouchFlo just to not only look as attractive as the other mobile OSs but also do SOME of the features the other OSs provide.:smh::angry:

How the hell does Microsoft expect to be taken seriously when they can't even get their mobile OS to work properly with their new big OS release?! That shit don't make any gatdamn sense. After hearing this, I'm officially done with Windows Mobile. I'm bout to start looking into either putting Android on my TouchPro or getting a Palm Pre.

man i was so pissed - everythin in win7 was working but that - I use imap with flexmail on my phone and now i moved to thunderbird so i can sync my imap mail and calendar in one app and not have it hosed like in outlook (imap is terrible for large accounts on outlook)

Now im free of office outlook and free of syncing - i can just use bluetooth, my sd card or an anonymous association to move data to my phone.
Mad as hell. THe only way you can work it in win7 if you have issues is to uninstall winmob6.1 and install the older version but I couldnt get it uninstalled period - the shit breaks

anyway HTC just announced the HTC Hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That shit looks hot but damn no keyboard. I can't go back to not having a keyboard on my phone again. I do a lot of texting & it was a pain in the ass using the on screen keyboard back when I had the HTC Touch. I looked & while there are people running Android on the TouchPro, thy had limited functionality where some of the drivers like bluetooth & wifi didn't work properly. Looks like it's gonna be the Palm Pre for me. Unless I know they're gonna come out with an Android phone with keyboard for Sprint prior to the Hero then I'll be locked in with the Pre.

i dont think i can wait until the end of the year for that phone anyway - im going pre too
im willin to try something else- windowsmobile has really changed very little in 9 years - my old ipaq devices dont look much different and have comparable memory to the touch

Make sure you post up a personal review:hmm:

I want to get right of my Touch Pro but I'm thinking blackberry storm.

no keyboard on that HTC Hero? kind of hard for me to use a phone with no keypad. i text more than i talk. Thats along wait, not to mention, as usual, sprint will have it first. so verizon either wont get it, or will get it right before another version of it drops.

i was looking at blackberrys but sprint doesnt have the storm :(

man now theres gonna be twice a yr upgrades on phone tech which is gonna suck ass
the market is shitty- competition is up and there's like 5 yrs or more of steady 6month updates since tech is always improving and there's shitloads of stuff they have in Japan we dont even see (unless youre into phones and know how to use google)

already the pre camera is gonna seem shitty since i know the fuckin Hero has 5mp
im just gonna keep sellin my used joints on ebay
I thought the keyboard on android/iphones were good or some shit?
i have to admit hunting and pecking on my touch is fuckin horrible and the fullscreen keyboard makes shit worse since all u see is a fuckin keyboard

I'm happy Sprint doesn't have the Storm. I wasn't impressed by it when I played with it at my old job & it's heavy as shit too. I just can't go to an all touch screen phone anymore & am not all enthused with blackberrys as a personal phone.

i bought my kaiser tytn II second hand and I tell you what if it wasnt for sites like xda devolopers i probably might not have like the phone as much as i do. It is sad that microsoft cant think beyond the same shit. I remember I had an Ipaq and the screen and all looked exactly like my phones OS. and that thing is like 5 years old. Like windows OS on desktops it takes 3rd party apps to make their stuff worthwhile to have. me myself personally Ive never been big on blackberry. I mean it probably is cool and all but I havnt seen enough to make me leave windows mobile phones. even though windows has been lacking on creativity

thats kinda what bugged me out when i got the touch- i was like this sht is just like my 7 yr old ipaq and my 9 yr old jornada :smh: you can customize the shit outta it but then it isnt as fast imo

my main issue is speed and bugs - i have to restart my phone every few days or the shit will just flake out
fuckin weather app doesnt work with my locale without a tech savvy hack
have to use a 3rd party backup app to restore an 8 month old backup everytime this thing flakes out longterm or go through hours and hours of reconfigurationi

its just a pain in the ass - when youre really interested in something it isnt hard to devote hours to understanding it and making it more to your liking but when the shit has been there awhile you just want it to work
kinda like chicks

I've officially jumped ship. Ordered my Pre today & am expecting its arrival next week. No more Windows Mobile for me. Time to check Ebay to see how much I can resell it for.

damn that was fast!
make sure you let us know whats up on it. Did you order from the store or by phone? did you check one out in a store first? Im thinking about getting one next week too.

I ordered mine over the phone. I've seen the Pre in person before but took it for granted. The vids I've seen on the board as well the potential it posseses are what swayed me to reconsidering & in a few days will let y'all know if it was worth it. I just couldn't take it no more after my phone froze on me again when all I wanted to do was look at a damn text message. As good as TouchFlo is, it still causes aggravation because it's not a core app for Win Mobile & as such is more prone to those kind of issues.

-privacy policy for the pre

------------------

Palm: If you look at paragraph 4 of the Palm WebOS terms and conditions (PDF document) you will find the following:

The Services automatically send Palm various types of information, which may include the wireless phone number associated with your Device. To back up your Device information, the Services regularly send us your contacts, calendar, account credentials and settings, and preferences. During automatic remote diagnostics, your Device sends us its device ID and other related information to help us diagnose any Device issues and troubleshoot. You agree that Palm and its subsidiaries, affiliates, partners, suppliers, and agents (collectively, Affiliates) may collect, store, access, disclose, transmit, process, and otherwise use your Registration Data, account or Device information, content, and technical data for Palm and its Affiliates to provide you with the Services, address your requests, provide technical support, process any transactions for your account, and otherwise in accordance with Palm’s privacy policy found at http://www.palm.com/us/company/privacy.html, which is hereby incorporated by reference. Palm may also provide or enable certain Services through your Device that rely upon location information. In order to provide such Services, Palm and its Affiliates may collect, store, access, disclose, transmit, process, and otherwise use your location data (including real time geographic information) in accordance with Palm’s privacy policy. You also agree that Palm has the right, without liability to you, to disclose any information, including but not limited to your Registration Data and other information, to law enforcement authorities or government officials, to the extent Palm believes is reasonably necessary or appropriate.

In looking through this I thought to myself it was pretty standard since Palm does reference their privacy notice. However, if you look at paragraph 2 of their privacy notice you will see they can actually share your personal information with Palm affiliates and subsidiaries to support sales and marketing.

We may share, disclose, or transfer your personal information as follows:

* To Palm affiliates and subsidiaries to support business operations and sales, marketing, and customer support processes;
* To third party service providers and suppliers acting on our behalf to provide products or services to you; and
* To other third parties for purposes you have allowed.

We may also disclose your personal information as we determine reasonably necessary to (a) comply with applicable law, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable governmental requests, (b) respond as necessary to an actual or potential lawsuit, or (c) protect the rights and property of Palm or others. We reserve the right to retain, use, and disclose aggregate or anonymous information developed from personal information at any time.

Interesting read. Makes you wonder how many other cell manufacturers are doing that kind of shit. Is that swaying your decision on whether to get a Pre or not?

By the way my Pre is on backorder & I doubt any Sprint stores have them in stock. :(

i use to put personaly stuff on my devices, but not directly on the device. i would make the database on my memory card and encyrpt it.
I only stored apps and music on my card. I used to sync some personal stuff like notes from outlook but I switched to Evernote. Email I use flexmail & imap. So, the only thing really stored on there is my password to access email. I really should setup remote delete and a password but I never bothered to.

True but there are also IT policies placed on them to control the flow of content in & out of those devices.
no doubt but if youre working on a project and you use your phone for email etc - its not a good look to have that kind of privacy policy in place- in fact im sure any company that reads that shit is gonna say fuck this

Got the phone today & I must say it's definitely a big step above Windows Mobile anything. From browsing to adding a bluetooth device, WebOS smokes WinMobile 6.1

just ordered a pre and that magnetic charger. mufuckas was tryin to give me a pre for $150 if I add a second line
maaaaan i just looked at verizon since I could get a hookup with them or alltel - alltel has better phones than them - how the fuck does anyone use verizon? $349 for a touch pro not a touch pro 2 - a touch pro :hmm:

alltel has good prices though - touch diamond for $79 - cheaper than sprint

man adding bluetooth on the touch made me mad as fuck - u have 3 seconds to put that code in or startover :smh:

on a scale of 1-10 what would you rate it? did you cop a touchstone? i just ordered mine at 10pm they said 5-7 days- free shippin and activation etc
paid $401 for it and the touchstone - $100 mail in rebate

does it feel flimsy like it will break like some have said?

Verizon stays raping people for phone prices & data service. That version of the TouchPro is even scaled down from a hardware level compared to the Altell & Sprint versions. People really fall for that #1 network bullshit that Verizon spews & learn the hardway it's not all its cracked up to be. People can shit all they want on Sprint, but I luv their data plans & speed.

Adding blueooth was fast as hell. It synched my email very easily too. Only problem you may run into is synching contacts/calendar with Outlook. There isn't an app available to do that yet but they do have a utility on Palm's site that allows for a 1 time transfer of that data to your phone. Then you can choose whether to synch OTA via google or Exchange server. I give it a solid 8.5 with the keyboard costing it some points. I can deal with the keyboard but am a little biased since I'm more used to the TouchPro & BB Curve keyboards. It's fast & seamless though. Can't wait for more apps to become available as well as jailbreaking becoming more commonplace. Once that happens, this phone is gonna really be a problem for Iphone & Android.

Nah I didn't order a touchstone. I don't think i'll need it as I already have a micro-usb cable connected to my pc & a mini-usb to micro-usb adaptor as well. I definitely wanna get a hard case for it though. Im not doing the waist cases anymore.
