Canibus didn't come in at a bad time. He owned 96-97. Was lauded as the hip-hop savior.

What he started doing is rapping about shit that his listeners didn't give a fuck about. It wasn't even about that it was over their head (what a dick head geek would tell you).

Any nigga that starts rapping about "heart palpitations" and "5 speed jamiraqoui drives" and Carl Sagan books is gonna lose even the most dedicated fan.

That is NOT the Canibus everybody loved

THAT is who niggas loved. Plus anybody notice how his voice went from dope to annoying. Like he had throat cancer or something. Canibus might be one of the saddest stories in all hip-hop but the fault was of his own and Wyclef corny ass.
 
Dude lacks personality. When people feel a hiphop artist, they are buying into your music, but also your life story (real or made up), and personality. NO chicks other than hard core hiphop heads fucked with Canibus. He just isnt marketable. If pure skills paid the bills he'd be rich and solja boy would be working overtime at the mall but thats not how shit works.

I also feel that there are certain djs/selectors who should know how to rock instrumentals, break beats and do production around a kat like that on some REAL Hip Hop shit like a Human BeatBox would/SHOULD do JUST due to the fact that he spits so vicious and its important for those breaks to enhance his spit & lyrics IMHO; the right scratches and beat changes are all that are important when rockin with the Bus;

let him Go In over a beatbox (or old school scratching & cutting ass dj) kats chosen best so the two 'instruments' can shine together.

Thats the only way this/his old format may seem to be packaged as something new.

If his team woulda have went that route, I think Canibus coulda had a Mobb Deep/Lox type fanbase. They've always had that consistent fanbase that have allowed them to have the longevity they've had. They'll never sale alot, but they'll make a good living. Not everything has to be 8 X platinum.

Even if Canibus could make good songs, he never would have been a big draw. You gotta have a female fanbase to do that. Imagine that nigga making a song for the ladies:lol:

I think it's because of his voice and delivery. :lol: I think it would be his hardest feat to make a song that appealed to the female audience.

He's supposed to be coming out with an album that goes further in depth with the concept of Poet Laureate Infinity, making the album an "infinite album". If he's able to pull this off, then he will go down note worthy in hip-hop and music history, despite popularity and sales...

eh, I mean it's cool for hardcore back pack hip hoppers but that shit is too raw and undeveloped for me to consider it deep. he doesn't tell stories he just splices some scientific or metaphysical terms into lines about how hard he is and brags about how you can't keep up w/ him. nah nigga, i just can't STAY up w/ you. i get to yawning and drifting off into sleep but it's just a personal opinion.

The vast majority of hip hop fans were too ignorant to understand his lyrics and his flow. Cannibus was and is still way ahead of his time, he will be one of these MC's that will get the proper recognition he deserves when he is out of the game. People talking bout he is just a battle rapper, that is what true hip hop is about battling to prove that you're the best MC. Same can be said for KRS-one and Rakim.
