cuz he took to long to make that banging album we expected..His first album was supposed to change the game but it didnt.......he was giving a second chance with 2000 BC and he dropped the ball.....Then he just shot himself in the head with C True Hollywood stories....By the time he did get it right with Mic Club people already had given up on him. And whats messed up is that if he woulda just put Mic Club out as his first album he'd be in Eminems position right now.

Lyrically he's second to none..reason he never really blew up is partially the fact that peeps just ignorant and partially because he has an ennoying voice.
 
That was his problem -- he was an ILL battle rhymer.
But when it came to making a rap record, he sucked because he didn't know how to create a BRIDGE, CHORUS, OR HOOK.

You can't just sit down and batter niggas in the head for 30 minutes with battle rhymes on a record if you want to move units.

I disagree...even if you look back at his first album, dude was on another level of shit. Production always killed dude UNTIL 2000 BC, but because of the stupid ass dick riding fans of LL, his mainstream career took a dive.

Dude has made his best shit since Mic Club (Almost everyone believes that C True Hollywood Stories was some BS:smh:). In my opinion, his best album is Rip The Jacker and a close second is For Whom the Beat Tolls. The production from Stoop the Enemy of Mankind (Jedi Mind Tricks fame) is unbelievable.

He's taken his lumps over the years, but dude is by far one of the most lyrically skilled and intelligent rappers EVER. Nigga made a rhyme that can be flipped and reconfigured in over 600 different ways or some shit and still makes sense...crazy! :eek: His shit will be appreciated in the future....

canibus is the greatest lyricist of all time and will be the true van gogh of hip hop. when we're all about 60 they will do a special on him on cbs profiling his rhymes. i have nas as the greatest overall rapper ever, but canibus is my all time greatest lyricist. he is not a good musician at all.

if you listened to his music you would know he did way more than spit battle rhymes on his albums. he is ahead of his time.

I sometimes forgot and allowed myself to forget how gifted the Buoy is.
Appreciate this post especially that Poet Laurette II & that army verse.
His raps werent always BATTLE per se, but his delivery and style may have come off that way to the uninitiated.

I think he fucked up trying to go w/ the standard song. A song is what you make it. He's the type of dude who should just spit. No chorus or anything. Just spit over a nice beat. That's what he was brought here to do.

Exactly - you got dude's like Jadakiss, Nas and Freeway still fumbling with the ball but they have lyrics, a strong marketing machine and Kanye, Timbaland, and Just Blaze at their disposal but they are baffled like the rest of us at the success of Lil Wayne and T Pain. If you don't put it together correctly people won't buy it and they won't give you a second chance. He's just another dope lyrical rapper that people don't like enough to spend money on - see Fab, see Papoose, see Joe Buddens, see Kane, see Rakim.

I also feel that there are certain djs/selectors who should know how to rock instrumentals, break beats and do production around a kat like that on some REAL Hip Hop shit like a Human BeatBox would/SHOULD do JUST due to the fact that he spits so vicious and its important for those breaks to enhance his spit & lyrics IMHO; the right scratches and beat changes are all that are important when rockin with the Bus;

let him Go In over a beatbox (or old school scratching & cutting ass dj) kats chosen best so the two 'instruments' can shine together.

Thats the only way this/his old format may seem to be packaged as something new.

Canibus has always been one of the nicest lyrically he just came into the game at a bad time.

I swear though it's so hard to listen to cats with this much skill and know that there is a whole lot of fools that truely believe Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper alive.

bc in reality, you couldnt listen to 13-15 tracks like this. Its good once inna while but DAMN. Now i can listen to it. But all his flows are the same, no matter what beat. HE NICE AS SHIT!. But same type of subject matter and flow on 13 joints
