I think we can all agree that the old-school rappers were overall a little more intelligent than the new "clown" rappers. The "gangsta" rappers were mostly intelligent guys.
Ice-T is a really smart guy. You don't believe me, read "The Ice Opinion", listen to "O.G. Original Gangsta". This guy dabbles in beat poetry, social commentary, militant Black power, and street conversation. He was a beast in his day. Has not been another one like him since.
Ice Cube is another really smart, respected guy. Only Jews and White folks had a problem with him. His greatest quote? "White people are like snakes, some are poisonous and can kill you, other ones are harmless, like garden snakes". Dude was sayin' that, while he was hangin' with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and shit.
Even Eazy-E was considered to be smarter than HE let on. He would do all that crazy shit in person, but in private was shy and intelligent
Scarface is a really smart guy, but sometimes "ghettos" it up in public.
Dr. Dre
2pac of course, but he was more open with his militant, Black Panther, revolutionary side, that's why he usually ends up on these "smartest rappers" lists.
Paris
Will Smith is a really smart dude, as in school smart. He scored an 800 or something close to that on the language part of his SATs.
There's a lot of smarter rappers than you guys would think. In public they "dumb it down". Old-schoolers didn't have to do that. Chuck D, KRS, Paris, Poor Righteous Teachers, Ice Cube and a lot of those guys used to get props for being smart.
Please don't look up to rappers for intellectual output. They're not as smart as you might think they are.
