i normally keep my dock on the rite side, but the bottom had more real estate to show it all off at a halfway decent size.

here are closeups of my dock in 4 parts for the curious.

even though i use Pathfinder as a Finder alternative/launcher, i like to keep all my apps in the dock.

I'm curious. School me on these kind sir. And good look on Pathfinder, I didnt even know about it. Lotta things I wish finder could do.

Pathfinder makes the Finder virtually irrelevant. tabs, drop box, dual-pane browser. it shits on the Finder and it is one of the first things i install on all my Macs.

i grouped my web browers together (safari, firefox, opera, camino, omniweb). all have pluses and minuses. i use certain browsers for certain sites.

i grouped iLife 09 together for simple media creation. i got a mac mini running iLife as a home server for music (700+ gigs of tunes ), photos, etc. connected to my HDTV.

then i got my business/productivity section - Office 09 and Expression Media. i use Expression Media to save my Lynda.com quicktime tutorials into one group for straight viewing. Followed by iWork 08 which i prefer over Office, but i use/keep both. then is the Omni Suite of apps. Graffle, Outliner, OmniPlan, OmniFocus. All of which I find indispensable if you do any sort of project management.

then is the heavy lifting stuff. my graphics, photo, and video apps. Suitcase. Adobe CS4 Master Collection. Lightroom. Aperture.Final Cut Studio 2. Toast Suite. Some DVD ripping software. Some Wacom tablet apps.

Finally Onyx for system maintenance.

This is my workhorse computer.

Where did you get that desktop pic/background?
found a download of Mac Desktops. got at least 100 Apple desktops. all pretty fly.

Damn, I'm really slacking on my programs, Okay I just got a mac, well I'm lying, I've had it for a while now, I see that you guys got tons of what seems to be great programs. My question is to a fairly new mac user, meaning this is my first mac, what programs do yo guys feel are must have!! Thanks fam!!

Quick question. Just gotta Mac. Why does firefox show up as a device on my mac instead of an application. If I shut firefox down, then I have to reinstall it again. Any advice?

dmg file. copy firefox into your applications folder. you haven't installed it yet.

I just got a mac and I was wondering what software do I need to emulate a windows box and or linux box. I heard about this parallel stuff but not much.

It depends on what you use your mac for really? As far as myself, at bare minimum I usually install the following:

Perian (allows Quicktime to run any audio/video you throw at it)
http://perian.org/

Transmission (torrent software)
http://www.transmissionbt.com/

Dock Library (customize your Dock)
http://www.dativestudios.com/docklibrary/
http://leoparddocks.net/ (for custom docks)

Beyond that stuff, depending on what youre into I would definitely recommend taking a look at Apples Pro Apps. Outside of maybe Adobe, I dont think any other company is really fucking with Apple on software.
