Who's that football player who KILLED someone during a game?

I remember reading a while ago about an NFL game in the 1970s, where a Football Player accidently killed someone when trying to tackle him or something. He hit him so hard, the sheer impact of the collision killed him. Was the game Broadcast on TV? Cause if so, there's gotta be footage of this on YouTube somewhere....

I thought it was Dick Butkus, but I can't find any mention of it in his BIO.

It may of been someone who played for the Chicago Bears...

Im a huge football fan...IDK....but Jack Tatum paralyzed the Pats' Darrel Stingley...and Chucky Mullins from Ole Miss got paralyzed from hitting a receiver.

Oh and Miami HOF'er Nick Buionconti (sp) son played at the Citadel and got Paralyzed too

Darrel Stingley is the only highly publicized situation I was familar with in the pro's as well as Chucky Mullins at Ole Miss. I saw that live and it was a shame.

The incident you're talking about happened in 1971. Chuck Hughes, who was a receiver for the Detroit Lions, died of a heart attack on the field during a game against the Bears, back when the Lions played their home games at Tiger Stadium. He was stricken with a massive heart attack after running a pass route, and Butkus was the nearest defender to him. It was Butkus who signaled for medical help, but Hughes did not die from a Butkus hit, as many people have thought over the years.

William Andrews (RB) of the falcons ran a cat over and in '79 and the cat died from the collision. I think it was someone on the Broncos. Yep, it was on CBS.
