I really don't know how to say this but is there like any safe areas to live in in New Orleans. I know every area has their share crime but it seems like N.O. has more than any1 else. The reason I ask is because I thinking about moving down there.

Feedback pls

Try Jefferson Parish, maybe Kenner. Kenner is the next city west of New Orleans, but still greater New Orleans if you want to live in Orleans Parish, I would say Gentilly or New Orleans East but New Orleans East was very hard hit and is very slowly coming back so you will see alot of devastation out there

Are you moving to New Orleans to sell drugs? if not your chances of staying alive increase 50 fold.

not moving there 2 sell drugs. Mainly because my girl is from there and she wants 2 move back and is was thinking about the east. That drug game is not 4 me. thanks 4 the info.

The thing about New Orleans is that you can have million dollar homes on one block, and then have some hood shit two blocks away. You find yourself a nice neighborhood with a majority of home owners, live a good, clean life, and you don't have much to worry about. Ponchatrain Park in Gentilly is really nice, majority african americans, and centrally located. Good luck.

Co-sign. I been here for a year now Jefferson Parish has been pretty good to me.

Any city that gives birth to a little turdy like this, can't be safe....

The trick with NOLA (as with just about any other place) isn't how bad the crime is. There's crime there just like anywhere else. It all depends on how smart you are. I lived down there for years and went to 7 different Mardi Gras. Just be smart. If you park your car outside then don't leave any good shit in it and leave your doors unlocked. If you're walking around stick to the popular areas. In the day you're just fine, and at night if you keep your eyes open you're fine too.

The people that get stabbed or shot are the ones who start acting a fool, start fights, or are doing shit they shouldn't be doing. I clubbed there 3 or 4 nights a week for about 5 years without ever having a single incident.

There's a few rules you need to know though:
1. Don't get involved in a fight, no matter how fucking tough you think you are. There are crazy motherfuckers there who look for shit like that, and if they don't get you the cops will.

2. Don't fuck with the cops. Don't bow up to them, don't talk back to them, and don't try to act all tough in front of your girl. Say "Yes sir, yes sir, yes sir" and walk the fuck away. The cops there wear leather gloves with kevlar plates in the knuckles and have a 'hit first, ask questions at the station' attitude. I've seen a LOT of motherfuckers talk back to a cop, and next thing you know they are tied up on the back of a horse with a broken nose.

3. If you end up on the wrong side of Bourbon St, don't start talking shit about all the gays you see there. The last Mardi Gras I was at 2 sailors ended up there and started talking shit about all the gay guys they met. They found their bodies on Canal street in a dumpster, and even though it was the busiest night of the year and there had to be 10,000 witnesses (literally) not one person saw a damned thing. New Orleans has every type of person, and if you are freaked out by gays, transgenders, transexuals, cross dressers, prostitutes, etc then either don't fucking go or keep your mouth shut.

As a New Orleans native I co-sign all of that
Like dude said watch those cops, some of them are rogue as hell, if they don't beat you to a pulp, they'll plant some shit on your ass. With Bourbon Street don't go too far down from Canal because you'll end up in the gay areas also keep in mind Blacks aint as welcome on Bourbon as you'd think, a black college student got killed infront of Razoo's and the bouncers got off. Keep your eyes peeled on Bourbon. If you move to Jefferson Parish keep your eyes peeled out there, Jefferson is majority white to Orleans being majority black so if you move out there you be on your best behavior as those white folks don't play out there...Key is the to avoid the craziness.
Another thing New Orleans can sometimes be hostile to outsiders, don't flaunt that fact because if you do mothafuckas might be tempted to test you. You said your ol' lady is from New Orleans if you got questions defer to her.

Also when it comes to Mardi Gras try to goto a parade and not just stroll down Bourbon looking for breasts.

if that's what you think about the city,,, why move there?

go to the westbank like marrero its not that bad dont go to the east pimp it aint worth the headache especially if u got lil ones just go to jp and get a good job and don't go to no clubs by yourself

I lived in Harahan for a couple years while in grad school. It's Little Mayberry. Got all the shit you need, nice park, nice library, grocery stores, couple of decent gyms. I rarely even went to downtown New Orleans. Check out a big group of apt complexes off Citrus Blvd. You'll forget you're even in New Orleans.

He's a simp nigga running down there to be with his girl. No offense Deuce, but seeing how fucked up looking New Orleans you couldn't get me to move there. Unless my job requested me to go. Then I'd be one  ninja on the way.

I'm not offended by that, the powers that be are the ones who turned a lot of people off from New Orleans and as long as they continue the same divisive bullshit, New Orleans will always be a party city not to be taken seriously.

Plus it would kinda suck if New Orleans became like Atlanta where almost everybody is from someplace else.

Honestly you can get some GREAT prices on houses just outside NOLA right now. On the outskirts of New Orleans they still haven't rebuilt much of it. For the price of an apartment in NOLA you could easily get a 3 or 4 bedroom house only 20 or 30 minutes away.

I don't know about living there, but as a place to visit NO is one of my favorite places.
Listen to the people telling not to fuck with the police or get into any fights. I have been to numerous Mardi Gras and I have seen some very bad things happen to people going down there popping shit to the police and/or to strangers (more so than any other place I have visited). The police down there are like a fucking gang and sadly some of the locals ... well just watch yourself.
I still love that city as a place to visit though there is something off about everyone I have known that's from there (not in a bad way). It's like they are on they own wavelength or something. I always thought it had something to do with their history and diverse culture. Also having to accept the reality of their city (and way of life) possibly being wiped off the earth by a direct hit by a hurricane.
It's a great city though. The food and the women are second to none, uh just don't let the women cook anything for you.

people need to stop watching CNN. I saw that shit just now on there talking about how bad a city it is to live in. I was born and raised there in the 9th ward a block from the Florida project and i have never been shot, or put in jail, or HAD to sell drugs. Its not the city that makes people act the way they do, its the crowd you put yourself around and follow, rather than lead

dawg....talk your girl into moving to Baton Rouge....or somewhere close to N.O. no hate towards NOLA...but shit is complicated and moving there requires too much mental effort. the fact that you had to ask about where to live says you are expecting to have issues which is not a good way to start when moving.

oh.... 9000 Chef Menture....the location of the best strip club... look towards the corner of the shopping center next to Kockbuster video and the massage parlor

Soledad didn't say anything new or ground breaking tonight. I agree with what you said especially because I grew up in that same area, but you have to agree with people skeming and skimming money from here and there created a culture of desperation. Terrible schools are turning out people who only know how to clean hotel rooms and fuck.

Actually Baton Rouge wouldn't be a bad choice, I think BR was just named an All-American City...although BR has rep for being boring don't worry about that on a good day with no traffic you can get to New Orleans in a 1/2 hour.

you aint neva lying....boring with a capital B. Though, I have impressed out of town chicks on dates around town...but shit took too much thought. They are trying to spruce up the night life....but its going to take a while for it to get to a decent level.

plus...its an hour to the superdome and an hour and a half to the best lap dances

Yeah he'd have to get a feel for both BR and NO so he get to places quickly and just have a high tolerance for driving.

I just got in from New Orleans tonight. It was my first time there. Went to visit some friends who are Vietnamese. As someone else here said, on one end, you can see a neighborhood with beautiful homes. Then right down the block it's straight-up hood. And this was just by Marrero.

Another thing that got my eye was that the restaurants I went to had tables of Black, White, and SE Asian folks shooting the shit together, laughing and having a good time. I saw this played out at quite a few eateries on the outskirts of DownTown New Orleans.

I would love to live there. But weather would be too damn hot for me around summer. But I'm definitely going back to visit.

Look homie, I aint knocking the other members posts and shit, but N.O. is like any other urban/suburban area, if you legal in all ways, the laws aint really tripping, true indeed if you got a nice looking whip, they gon try to hack you up, but other than that it's great, fuck what they say black's run Bourbon,we're honeslty only on Bourb for holiday's and concerts, not choosing sides but that nigga that got killed wasn't even from here and tried to act all big in front of the bouncer like the bouncer wasn't gonna beat his ass, true he went overboard but like at any club anywhere, you'll love the diversity and the family attitude we have out here and the food is great, you'll gain weight out here, oh another thing if your REALLY faithful to your girl, STAY THAT WAY, cause we have the most scandolous girls I've met, the east is still recovering but the shit that they're building, makes N.O. look like in 2,3 yrs we'll be back like normal, I think you'll like it out here homie, I'm mad that I'm leaving soon( going be a father to my son)..........

The thing that makes NOLA cops different than other cities is that there are 8 different police departments, all from different parishes, who's jurisdictions overlap right in the city of New Olreans. Which means that you have 8 different groups of cops, all wanting to be 'that guy' who brought someone in.

Also remember that they fight the battles they can win. They will never beat the war on drugs or walking around drunk with an open container. So what battles do they end up choosing? Idiots getting into fights, pissing on buildings, or passing out in the street. Just have a good time and don't be stupid and you'll be fine.

To cosign what some of the others have said, Baton Rouge is a GREAT place to live. I lived in an apartment complex across the street from LSU and got so much fucking pussy it was unbelievable. New Orleans is one of those cities that's great to visit, but I'd rather live on the outskirts.

pretty much, everybody comments are on point about the city, i love the city just like everybody else..

The cops don't fucking play, why should they, just think about it, how many drunk people is out there, the have to be one point at all times, once i was out there and there was this drunk couple kissing in the middle of the street, this (black)chick over there picking the pockets, I was standing next to some(white)cops, whom was laughing. After a while, one cop went told them to go some where else. So the cops ain't always fucking people up.

Any night you will find something popping off.

BR is boring as the fuck with the same fucking traffic problem as The City, and don't sleep on the fucked up crime that goes on around BR, don't get it twisted, I lived there for a two years. I think most people watch the news that follows NOLA area rather than BR.

The city has it's own flavor that you wont find anywhere else, that's what makes the people love it so much, my kids get so happy when it I take them there. If you ever cant catch a festival in the French Quarters do it, Mardi Gras is a must, I tell everybody i meet it something different, i mean its a party thought the whole city, unbelievable amounts of people it awesome, N.O. is awesome, there a reason the Super bowl and other events stay coming back......

Another thing we didn't school you on the the routine for Hurricanes as long as Katrina is a recent memory every storm that approaches is gonna be handled very seriously. So pay attention to what I'm saying.

A mandatory evacuation doesn't mean that you are gonna be forced out of your house at gun point, it means that the city will down to a Skeleton staff and there will be no civil service. No 911, no cops, no nothing, you'll have to survive on your own, so if you or your woman has any health issues or any kids I would say younger than 12, I would evacuate. Because there are usually power outages is in extremely inclimate weather and it can take days for the power to return, if you live outside of Orleans it could take weeks.

When it comes to evacuations, its on you, and it pays to leave early if you have transportation to get out . I talked to one of my ex's who took the train out of town, she told me those shelters were terrible and I spent 2 weeks Kelly AFB in San Antonio after Katrina and it was pretty pissy so since you aint from New Orleans I would say drive back to your hometown for any evacuations.

If you have to evacuate while you're out of town make sure you know if your part of the Metro area is ready for repopulation, because you will be turned back if you come home too early.

for real dude come into the city,
move uptown or downtown just avoid the hot spots and move into majority area with homeowners and you'd be fine...

fuck the police and don't say shit to em, even I have fam who are them people and will fuck over you...

N.O has civil sherrifs, criminal sherrifs, N.O.P.D, State Troopers, and even all the public university policemen (UNO, SUNO, DElGADO = Louisiana State policemen)who will bust that ass...so it's about 5 departments to look out for...and the bitch ass national guard too so it's like 6...

the city was designed from it's inception to be a throughfare, port city, and entertainment hub, in that sense the PUBLIC educational system was perfect, with the haves turning out to be middle class citizens and the have nots turning out to be labor for the service industry...

fuck what they say black's run Bourbon,we're honeslty only on Bourb for holiday's and concerts, not choosing sides but that nigga that got killed wasn't even from here and tried to act all big in front of the bouncer like the bouncer wasn't gonna beat his ass, true he went overboard but like at any club anywhere, .

If blacks ran Bourbon that white bouncer would'nt have been so quick to jump on top of the kid and then have a white police officer HAND THE BOUNCER HIS CUFFS. The bouncer cuffed the kid not the cop.

Also if blacks ran Bourbon the trial wouldn't have been moved to Lafayette, the trial was moved to avoid having any blacks on the jury. Even if the kid was out of line he should not he have been killed and the fact that he was killed, the fact the trial was moved, and that the bouncers got off proves that Bourbon is not the place where you want to act up at.

Thankfully they don't run it. It would not be a good thing.
