Here is a start.


1. Eliminate the fear mongerers and xenophobes in their ranks.
2. Embrace people of different ethnic/socio/religious backgrounds. Be more inclusive.
3. Limit the evangelical influence in its operations.
4. Pay more attention to the youth(who can't find jobs out of college)
5. Pay more attention to the plights of the middle and working class.

Obama said some months ago that they will not succeed with their old tricks and he was right. The next GOP canidate in 2012 will have to possess these qualities.

By the way I think the two party system is a joke. There is no way that two parties can please everyone. The Independents will grow in influence in the coming years as well.

He was like "Fuck blacks and Hispanics" we don't need them to win. Another Republican checked him by saying, "We don't need them? Have you seen the polls"?

The party is archaic. They are stubborn as hell and they believe the ONLY AMERICAN'S are the ones wearing cowboy hats. I live in Texas, and all they preach down hear is that "If you ain't with us, You against us". <----redneck voice.

People forget that at one time Blacks were overwhelmingly Republicans and the Democrats was once the party of CAC's. I swear kneegrows need to read a history book.

I believe your right on what they need to do but doing a couple of those things would take away from their base. Once you affect the base that's it.

People say that Palin is the new face for the GOP however she still IMO is a rigid social and fiscal conservative, where as what they need right now is to appeal to moderates and independents.

If they can't adapt to diversity they will perish on the political scene that is certain. They can't just continue to represent the Joe The Faggots and other fringe bigots of this country. 20th Century ideals will not work in a diverse country. Thank you for your intelligent reply also.

As long as they don't add diversity in there future line up they will be fucked. They keep talking about Bobby Jindal like he's the NEW FACE of the Republican party...Dude has no chance at all. It's more than just race, it's also personality. That's why Obama won!

the republican party can't rebuild under their current platform. Their whole M.O. has been proven wrong over the last 8 years. They are going to have to adopt a more liberal view. They will stick with that same social conservative bullshit but on economic issues they will have to admit "we were wrong , you can't let the inmates run the prison" (like that shit isn't common sense , I mean goddamn how dumb do you have to believe that trickle down bullshit)
 
The GOP as it stands now is FUCKED. History passed it by. It's strongest appeal is in terms of ECONOMIC conservatism not its bullshit SOCIAL conservatism.
 
Your list is excellent but unrealistic for this simple reason. When civil rights legislation was pushed by a democratic administration, "southern" (racist) democrats felt betrayed and thus "defected" to the republican party.

Resistance to civil rights became one of their unspoken "core" values. They code-worded it as self-reliance and self-determination. Not that there is anything wrong with those values accept for when they take on a double meaning that only serves one agenda.

Unfortunately for all of the history and progress of the moment there is still that group lingering in the shadows, proclaiming themselves as cultural conservatives but merely using that to disguise covert racist attitudes (this is not an attack on all conservatives but you get my gist).

Remember a racist without acceptance is an outcast, so they will always look for somewhere to flock and find solace in each other. Right now that place happens to be withing the republican party for the most part.

no it's not , that economic conservatism doesn't work that shit is stone cold fact now. you can't have complete deregulation cause all folks will do is steal. That social conservatism will stick because this country still has enough assholes who are concerned with what the next man is doing in his house even if he's not harming anyone. Rebuild? LOL As long as their rich buddies can eat off the last 8 years for a at least a hundred they will be back. They haven't gone nowhere. They are cancer in remission.

I agree with you... I have voted for Republicans recently...and have even CAMPAIGNED for a few. But they were all very "inclusive"....
When Ken Mehlman was National Republican Party in 2005 he made some efforts to recruit more minorities. But since Mike Duncan took over...:smh:

If you look at the Electoral Map from last night...you see that the Republicans for the most part only one states.. that have OLDER RESIDENT POPULATIONS...basically states that young people with fresh ideas want to escape from.

If the GOP is going to rise to prominence again its going to have to a person that can attract independents, moderates, and some democrats. That person is also going to have to be very CHARISMATIC.....
Basically a YOUNGER VERSION OF MIKE HUCKABEE minus the Bible Thumping.
 
The more successfull a Obama administration is the more the Republican party will have to change. They will no longer be able to ignore the lack of diversity in their party. There will be those in the party that would rather see the party die than include minorities. Others will see that they will either have to change or lose it all. The will have to rid themselves of the religious right to even began the process.

I was thinking the same thing, he's the closest thing to obama the republicans got. Still though I don't see the republicans coming back unless they completely change their platform.
