I like the show but I just hope the other vampires in the show aren't weak like that one dude was. How the fuck do two human hillbillies trick a vampire and then hold dude down with (Silver necklaces?) to drain him. Shouldn't he have been able to beat the shit out of both of them before they could do that?

Apparently no one in the entire town let alone state can fend them off. Even telepathics can not hear them coming and get their ass pummeled in a parking lot UFC style.

I guess there is no defense for a sneak attack, even if you have the strength of a chimp and can move fast enough to evade our line of vision :dunno:

wonder will there be a gif made out of the ending scene

this ish right here got me :lol::lol:

That's bullshit.

Not necessarily. I was only theorizing. I know that actors change for various reasons. She may not have even intended to do the series in the first place. Many times they just hire actors to do pilots just to sell the show and make cast changes afterwards. That doesn't mean that they didn't make changes for the reasons I posted. Casting directors only take credentials into consideration in part - the actor still has to nail the role. I thought Rutina played the role a bit "softer" than Brooke, who was a bit edgy and borderline mean towards Anna's character but I don't think Rutina was any better per se. Regardless, she's in so she has time to grow into the role.

It made no sense for the two hillbillys to have that vampire down like that  it's one of those things I see for the moment, subconsciously know it doesn't make any sense yet continue watching, why does it seem that these vampires are a lil more out in the open how is this shit being explained on a rational level, is it another one of those things I am to suspend belief on? Is Sooky a virgin, anybody think the grandma knows the Vampire that is after Sooky, perhaps from back in her days during the civil war.

Yeah, leave that type of character to Sam Jackson. Give black actresses only saintly and dull roles.

Sam Jackson is only one male character. Maybe since you aren't black it's hard for you to understand "us" hating to see sisters portrayed as ignorant time and time again.

I actually got annoyed because I couldn't figure out if dat's how dey actually wanted her to be portrayed or whether da bitch was just a bad actress dat was over doin da role.

She was if not da only bad thing bout dat show.
:hmm:

co fucking sign i was like wtf.I didn't really like how they had the white chick to be sure dam pure

The show is based on a series of mystery novels written by a fat white woman. I have one of the audiobooks but didn't get a chance to listen to it yet. I'll put it up when I get chance but I know she doesn't know shit about black women. She's way over the top angry but she is always reading a book.

Sam Jackson is only one male character. Maybe since you aren't black it's hard for you to understand "us" hating to see sisters portrayed as ignorant time and time again.

Sam is only one of dozens of black male actors who get to play "ignorant, hoodrat" roles (and get praise for it). Black actresses (in regular series) ONLY get to play saints. Nothing wrong with playing a colorful, crude character for a change, just like the white actors and actresses get to do.

I watched it last night & I've gotta say that it's an interesting concept but the delivery left much to be desired.:(

The main characters are "colorful" and I'm mildly curious to see where this series is going. However; I don't like the 2 black characters at all. There are so many examples of black people to draw from, but what do we end up with?

#1. (Miss Thing: The angry, loud mouthed, arrogant, ignorant sounding, sassy black woman everybody hates & fears. :smh:
All you need to do is give the girl a few illegitimate kids & give her a drug problem and she's "perfect".:hmm:

#2. (The effeminate black male "fag". Complete with all the "stereotypical" gay mannerisms, querks & attitude.)
All you need to do with "him" is start having him dress up in womens clothes and he's "complete".:hmm:

SAD...:(

I openly admit that I never read the books the series is based on, so I don't have a frame of refrence to use. However; if this is how the author sees black people, I think it's sad & I don't think I'll continue to follow this series much further.

Once again; Hollywood misses the mark with regards to people of color (Blacks in particular). It's funny; HBO runs this series & then it airs The Black List: Volume #1 right after it.

Yeah; like they really care...:hmm:

i thought it was coo...definitely gonna give it a shot.

Still..aint nothin fukkin wit Dexter

I'll have to check this one out cuz of the responses in here but let me just add my co-sign to that one right there and add in Heroes...:yes:

Media faggots are trying hard to efeminate the black male image.
This show, Death Race, Tropic Thunder...there' been a lot of showcasing of black gay male images lately by Hollyweird.

I wasn't nearly as impressed as I thought I would be with this show...
the two highlights were the redneck vampire in the store, and the beatdown at the end. the vampires screwing just freaked me out.
the black chick was way too angry for me and way too invested in the brother (forgot his name already) and anna paquin. the gay dude was already dressed somewhat womanly-he had on a pleated skirt/kilt in one scene.
I did notice her turning the telepathy on and off-wondering if she turned it off in the parking lot because she couldn't read the vampire? and why didn't her boss who is so "in love" hear the shit from his trailer? unrealistic.
nobody else took issue with him asking "could he call on her sometime"? what in the dried up romance novel hell?
going to watch this second episode (reasons why I love this site) and hope it was better than the first.

HBO is far and away the GREATEST network for black people in the history of television. Your own personal bigotries and stereotypes are the problem, and not the network's. Apparently, black FICTIONAL characters can only be presented ONE WAY in your narrow (prejudiced) world view. Sad.

:hmm:

I thought I was the only one. Her acting is way over the top! The brother acting is that well either.

Thought it was decent, gonna wait for the second episode to really judge.

I too did not like the black chick thought she a little over the top though they did show her weakness.

Did anyone take note when she went to save the vampire the owner followed but never "found" her. Then after saving the vampire that dog shows up out of nowhere. She then tells Bill that the dog likes to hang around the restaurant and he says that the dog definitely lives around there. Something tells me the restaurant owner is a shape shifter/werewolf type.

As far as the beat down, she probably had the "telepathy" turned off as she seems to be able to control it.

EVERY character is "over the top." That's kinda the idea of the series. It's a black comedy, not a serious drama. It's an amusingly offbeat horror farce about bigotry.

I don't think every character is "over the top." I can't say I agree with the black comedy part but I will agree with the bigotry angle.

I will admit the black gay dude had me crying, particularly when he was fucking with the dude at the bar.

Just because its a show doesn't exempt people from finding it offensive, you slack-jawed mutha fucka. Its the one-dimensional FICTIONAL CHARACTERS that get portrayed in many, many shows that black people get tired of. Of course you have no problems with these images, you slut-loving buffon but many black folks are sick of the same thugs, gay black men, sassy neck-rolling sistas and shit like that being shown as a "black" image. It seems like the only time black characters get some dimension are when an occasional liberal-minded Jew with some "juice" in Hollyweird writes a script that slips through the cracks or when a black actor gets enough pull in Hollywood to get a movie made (like Pursuit of Happyness) that allows a character to be MORE.
Even though people won't take this show seriously, there is much that gets imposed on the subconscious mind via comedy and light humor.
I think its more insulting that a sista who went to Juliard has to be in a role where she's playing a neck-rolling, finger-snapping BITCH instead of something more suited to her talents, but that's another thread altogether.

COSIGN 1000%!!!
THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME TO MAKE MY POINT. YOU OBVIOUSLY GOT WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY...

for what its whats worse I enjoyed the premiere and will be proably watching the show regularly. My biggest grip is the same everyone else had with the over the top black chick. Her accent was horrible and she was the angry black women stereotype personified. Nonetheless I'll give her character the benefit of the doubt.

"True Blood is an American television drama series created by Alan Ball, based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series by Charlaine Harris. The series is produced by HBO in association with Ball's own production company, Your Face Goes Here Entertainment.[1] It premiered on September 7, 2008.

The show details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town, after Japanese-made synthetic blood – "TruBlood" – becomes available for purchase. It follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a diner, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).[1][2]"

i saw this show i thought it was stupid. I got that they were trying to make some big broad statement on bigotry but the fact that it's vampires I can't take it seriously. Every time I sat down and tried I just busted out laughing.

It was the white "southern" gal (Anna Paquin) who was way over the top with her fake-ass accent. The show is a CARTOON. It's meant to be a dark comedy. Get da message, fool?

Anna Paquin is the same chick that played Rogue in the X-Men flicks. Didnt seem any more over the top than her accent in those films. As for the black chick, yeah..the character is over the top...but I think the director wanted it like that. It is supposed to have elements of a dark comedy. Overall, I liked it though. The concept is fresh enough to carry it for a while. As long as the writing stays good it could be a good series. But I mean... since when does HBO make bad series?

Love the concept, but the black characters........??????????

Why does the one Black Man have to be gay? Also, did you peep he went to the party and all the other Black Men were cool with him? Bumping his ass on dude she said was straight !!! I was like , "wtf???" :smh:

Her character is loud and evil.........until the main white girl's brother (white dude) shows up, then she's calm and smiles with batty eyes.

Let me know if i'm looking to deep.

Since John from Cincinnati.

Some of the show was cool but for the most part it fuckin sucked. It already has the cliche normal chick loves a vampire role. And that's taking up the whole series.I ll try a couple more episodes though.

u guys are really reaching with the "dark comedy" thing. everything i have read about it says its a drama. Come to think of it the show would work MUCH better as a comedy , but i don't think that's what they are trying to do. I feel like you guys are making excuses for a stupid show cause HBO rarely misses. This one is like a olden polynice at the 3 point line ... brick
