I just got through watching the Democracy One interview with Manning Marable which is also linked to on the page provided above..... Today was my first time coming into contact with that name; I did a search on this site out of curiosity and this is pretty much all that came up...

What's your opinion of Alex Haley? Did this change it at all?

I don't know if Greg Reed is significant beyond just being an attorney from Detroit as Marable called him, but you'd think a public campaign could be launched to demand that he release those three chapters. Not that it could be forced or that you could ever be confident that everything was released, but support for such an effort shouldn't be too hard to drum up and that's better than just letting them sit locked up.

I'm not expecting anything to change, it would just be nice to know what he had to say that's being supressed. Especially considering the more expansive path he was on was what made him a threat, I wonder what his insights would say to us today.

Alex Haley was never shit to me. It was widely rumored that he had nothing to do with the Autobiography and left key things out- Marable lends more credibility to those rumors.

I was reading a historical survey the other day and The Autobiography was by far one of the most frequently mentioned historic books read by blacks. People really value it as a representation of him and almost revere it. (I haven't read it yet.) This really would be a historic scandal if true.

haley left out much and according to the book Marable is working on - Haley had much help from some guy who may have been an agent - dont remember the exact details right now
