He totally rejected her premise for stepping to him to start with, which appeared to be to save him from what she perceived was the error of his ways and beliefs. He wasn't having it.
From the beginning she clearly wanted a debate, but soon saw it wouldn't be easy. Nevertheless she kept trying to interject her comments, eventually pointing her finger and demanding that he look her in the eyes, again challenging him on the conviction of his beliefs.
They both got emotional. He got more animated and louder, she got tearful
She knew what she was attempting with that initial question, she was just unsuccessful. He knew exactly what he was doing in his response and provided her with a HARSH TRUTH as a mirror for her own self reflection
