55 gal planted

Do you have any live plants in your aquarium? Put as many as you can in there. Plenty of live plants will actually clean much of the ammonia from your water (just make sure to replace your regular aquarium light with a plant light).

i heard them plant light cost like 40-60 dollars?????

:eek::eek:

I have a fucking aquarium in my home
3 30 gallon african tanks,
2 20 longs guppies and mollies,
2 55 saltwater clowns live rock blemmies hawkfish damsels and crabs day lights moon lights

I wont go into all the details of the setups but any questions holla!

you should test your water maybe your tank was not fully cycled. You cant just put water in a tank and let it sit a day or 2 and say it is ready there is nothing there to start the cycle. I always start a cycle and about 2 weeks into it i add 1 couple 20 cent gold fish and let them finish the cycle off. Then i add a few fish at the start then a couple weeks later add more. Your other choice is get some gravel from someone who has a tank put it into a nylon pantyhose end and put that into your tank to help seed the tank and filter. Your last choice is go to a local fish store (not petsmart or petco) and ask for this stuff called bio spira. Get a bag of that and that will seed your tank instantly. Those are your choices. But yuour fish will not make it if your tank is not cycled.

Does the fish have lil white dots if so it may be ich!

Also oscars are very dirty fish so u might need to clean the gravel b4 u start treating him.

If he the big dog in the tank and hes only in one place he is sick melafix should do the trick also get some antibios the color thing your talking about might be velvet I forget what cures it maybe coppersafe or something along those lines.

Follow the instructions and if u change the water make sure its b4 u take out the carbon in the filters

yea treat em! they most def have some fungus in the take and u might have rushed into the fish too fast. The only thing that happens fast in the aquarium world are mistakes take ya time

Just some tips from reading the thread. U have to cycle a tank. 7 days is not long enough. U need at least 3 weeks and then some hardy tropical fish in the tank for another 2 weeks before u get any "real" tropical fish. I've had a ciclid tank for 5 years now and many babies in the last two. U don't need a pleco"upside down catfish" out the gate. they feed on algee.

never liked fish.
unless they were "killer" type fish.
other than that.....their boring to watch.

i always wanted to have something i could touch with my hands.....or take outside and some shit like that.
....or anything that ate other animals or insects.
like a snake......scorpion...etc

i plan to buy some scorpions or tarantulas next year.

the scorpion and tarantula i had while in college....i could never hold...and they are even more boring unless they are killing shit.

certain tarantula's u cant hold....i dont think they sell them with the poison stil inside them.
the thing with fishes is ....im seeing them swim allday..then hearing the water...just makes me sleepy/relaxed.

now if i could get a big tank and put some baby sharks or sting rays or some shit like that inside...then that would be cool. i like action and movement.

yeah....it wasnt til after i got it (african bird-eating tarantula), that i realized it was the one u couldn't hold. that mufucka was the same size as my hand. i think its the mexican tarantulas that you can hold. but they all have poison in em.

I lost 2 red tiger oscars days apart!!! i thought they were sick!!

but come to find out the Firemouth i had in the tank was picking and chasing them all over the tank!!
i Brought 2 Black Convicts and i put them in the tank, so like an hour later i seen them scrapping with the Firemouth cichlid....(he had to go in my 10 gallon for now)

I got a question??

I have the Aquaclear filter with the 3 stage filteration (foam, carbon, bio-max)

i been having a problem with the ammonia in the tank so i brought the ammonia remover filter for the aqua clear....

now my question is should i have taken out the carbon filter, to make room for the ammonia remover filter?? or just leave all 4 of the filter media together in there??

leave all three in there u want the bacteria to build up in the media as well once it gets good and healthy it will start to break down the waste which is causing the high ammonia levels.

You also might be feeding ya fish too much!!!! I know they eat every time u throw food in there but the stuff they dont falls to the bottom along with the shit and piss cause the high levels. Feed fish like u do people 3 times a day max doing that will cause them to eat the stuff at the bottom of the tank also a few plecos wont hurt!

Flatbush

where do you buy your fish?

If you in NYC mac try petland discount they have the best and cheapest selection of fresh water ive seen if you want the basics. If you want to step it up and have show fish go to world aquariums I think its on 38th and 3rd in the city they stock is off the hook and they charge like they know they the shit. They do give u the best quality fish at world and everyone there is a well of knowledge not just workers like u get at the chain stores.

and there 4 filter media in the filter system(the foam sponge, the ammonia remover, the carbon ,and the bio-max rocks)

i feed them Once a day!! And i only throw like 10 pellets in the water!! I feel what ever they can eat in 5 minutes is good enough!!

should i feed them more??

nope less is more also u might wanna turn down the temp to 75-77 but do that over a few day it will slow down a bunch of stuff as well
