The Charlotte Bobcats fired Sam Vincent today, after one 32-50 season as head coach of the team. The move was not unexpected. Sources say Vincent did not fare well in post-season reviews by some players, during end-of-the-season exit interviews with team management.

Bobcats managing partner Michael Jordan made the decision to relieve Vincent of his duties, and is expected to speak with media by conference call later today.

A source close to Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown told the Observer Friday that he'd be interested in the job, should Vincent be fired.

The local media and fans are pushing hard for Larry Brown. Not sure I like that idea. :smh:

Larry need to take his old ass somewhere and sit down. First he robbed NY for 40 million. Now I guess he wanna rob somebody else. This dude just going around the league taking advantage of inexperienced NBA execs

I understand Mike wanna win, but damn, he needs to give the brova Sam Vincent a chance. He gets ONE year and that's it?? How is he supposed to establish his authority in so short of a time. Bet Larry gets all the time he needs
:smh:

Look I can't be mad at the move. LB is a HALL of FAME coach that has won championships on every level of basketball. LB is great at coaching mediocre talent... Sam Vincent's resume aint shit compared to LB.

Yes you are right Larry robbed the Knicks.........but now we see there was a whole lot of shit going on in NY.

You have to remember LB has ties to North Carolina.... and with a group of mediocre talent, and younger players..you couldn't ask for a better coach.

Right move by the Bobcats.

Mike's hand is forced. The local community hasnt embraced the Bobcats management and FO (you can guess why), so they're clamoring for Brown to come in and give them someone to "cheer for". I'm not thrilled about Brown coming in at all, but at this point its a done deal. I expect him to be in town for 2 years max.

Yup,

Larry Brown would be a great coach.......to get that group to the playoffs.
The Bobcats better draft well, and spend some money in the offseason.

Who didn't..? Good move by MJ and the Bobcats... I see them playing harder and more competitive then the Knicks will be in the foreseeable future.. and for have the damn salary...!! UNC Alum.. They gonna be practicing, and scouting all that local talent down in North Carolina...!!!:yes:

Man I've tried to like the Bobcats, but everything they've donce since their inception has rubbed me raw as hell

1. Calling themselves Bobcats
2. Having both Nelly aND Bob Johnson involved in any capacity
3. Ripping off the Knick's team colors...did they not get the memo that BLUE is what we do in NC?...shit even the old Hornets teal & purple got the pass
4.Poor staffing choices
5.Insert complaint here

I hope LB can bring the gravitas to this team thats sorely been lacking...I reaaaally want to like the Bobcats, but they are slowly falling into the same category as "Duke" for me

:(
RIP Charlotte Hornets

Being a NC native.....and UNC alumn........shit saddens me.

When they opted not to use the name "Charlotte Flight".......and opted not to use blue & white as the team colors I knew shit was going to be awful:smh:

two key draft picks have not panned out. Adam Morrsion due t lack of skill, and Sean May due to injuries.

No matter how you slice it these team is not going to be shit for 3 years. They have NO identity.

Personally I would draft carefully, and pay for some veteran free-agents looking for a final contract.

If you are looking for an identity, you will not get it with Brown as the coach. Not at this point in his career. Unless you want a team full of cynical, distrustful of each other-type ball players. If anything, his hire and ultimate departure in a relatively short period of time will only result in the jading of yet another young impressionable team that is hungry to do well for it's fans (starting with the Nets waaaaaay back in 83).

Yeah, they will probably (hopefully) reach playoff contention (they already have the talent to make it), but when he eventually leaves the players high and dry, it will sour the players on the NEXT coach they hire and undermine his authority. I would definitely not want to sign any free agents to long term deals under the guise of having the "great" Larry Brown as coach. Because he ain't gonna be there as long as that player.

Only cat it didn't happen to was Popavich. And that's only cause Popa don't take no mess (and he had Duncan). Whoever else coached a team after Brown, usually had a helluva time selling the players on his gameplan and ideas for success. They would be understandably skeptical.

Maybe not right now, but down the line Larry will just be BAD for morale. Not a good long range plan for an already shaky franchise (shaky meaning they may not have one in a few years) like Charlotte. First sign of trouble, Larry Brown might jump ship. He already has the one (proverbial) foot out of the door

If there was a way to LOCK Brown into an ironclad, 5 year deal, then I'd say go for it. But for maybe a season or 2 of short term success, he ain't worth it.

If you want stability, Larry Brown is NOT the man for the job.

Yes Brown's teams do have identity. He has won with a variety of teams/players.

His teams have the identity of playing good team defense, and unselfish ball movement.

Co/sign! Another great moved by MJ!

Nigga was SUPPOSED to be fired!

Come on why do you think the Bobcats hired a coach with no prior headcoaching experience? That nigga Sam Vincent was a place holder until they get either George Karl or Larry Brown onboard.

Don't feel bad for Vincent. He got paid, got some head coaching experience, and nobody will ever hold the peformance of the Bobcats against him.
Sam will probably end up an Asst Head coach on another Pro team..........or even a HEAD coach a mid major college basketball program. Sam will be OK.

....for the love of GOD, puh-LEEZE take George Karl..

They said the same things about Sam Mitchell.....amd Mike Woodson......and Billy King

I think I should still have the article on Mitchell being the WORST coach in the NBA.
I saved it as an email, I hope I still do

I'm telling yall as a Bobcats diehard, Mike hired Sam but was forced to fire him due to fan displeasure and Sam got trashed real bad by the players in end of year interviews. He alienated alot of the team over the course of the year, so Im not opposed or shocked that there is a coaching change at all. But this bringing Brown in stuff aint the answer to me.

I pretty much agree with you Runaway 100%. The problem is, fans in Charlotte want their pro teams in the mold of college athletics. By that I mean, they want the head coach/authority figure to be the "star" of the team. This is why alot of people in the Queen want Brown because he's an old school guy with Carolina ties with a big name they can "root for". Given his past few coaching stints though, I know this is gonna blow up in the Bobcats faces. Bob is under immense pressure to win due to lack of support in the business community, and I think management feels this is a way to win some favor with them. The problem is, as soon as Brown bounces, they'll be right back in the same position as they are now. If Brown is successful, he'll receive ALL the credit for the prosperity and people will want him to have more control in the organization. If he fails, Bob & Mike will be blamed for his lack of success. Its a win win for Brown, thats why he wants to come to Charlotte.
