I'll put it to you like this. Think of the most positive, most uplifting situation you've ever been in, and imagine someone like Martin Scorsese wanted to film a montage of that moment. Now, imagine he asked you to compile a list of 10-15 songs that you would choose from to score the moment. How many could you honestly say would be rap? The answer for me would be one or two, at the most.

You describe all this stuff that happens with rock music without realizing this - for every Slipknot, there's ten Nickelbacks. However - and if you've got proof to the contrary, then stop me now - for every Common, there's dozens, if not hundreds, of C-Murders, Gorilla Zoes, and the like. That has always been the case in rap music for as long as I can remember.

One problem I think is that the people that are engrossed in todays hip-hop culture do not take the time to learn the cultures history. You can go to any rock fan and ask who Black Sabbath, or Megadeath, or any other old rock group and they will know who it is. Ask a kid today who Chuck D, or Public Enemy, or Grandmaster Flash is and they will look at you crazy. If you knew Hip-Hop then you would know that this is an art form, and you wouldnt kill a nigga that rap better than you. Only in rap does this happen. What if a comic book artist gets pissed at another artists that draws better and then runs up and murks him. It's yet another sad day in Hip-Hop.

I have heard rock being associated with suicide and (mass) murder, drug use.
 
part of the problem is how niggas battle these days...it used to be about how nice you were on the mic, punch lines, metaphors etc... now niggas rhyming about what they'll do to you, ya moms ya girl, ya whole hood etc...shit is way too personal now. Too much tough boy trash talk, all up in each other's face and shit, mean muggin all the while. I'm not surprised this happened. I saw a video a year ago of nigga punching another one in the middle of his rhyme. This macho bullshit half the young black men are on is killing hip hop.
 
We are our own worse enemy most of the time. People need to look less at what the other races are or aren't doing and start paying more attention to what we're doing. Killing someone over a rap battle? Are you fucking kidding me? Back in the day that would be like killing someone because they beat you at "the dozens". Are young Black men that simpish these day? Good lawd, what has happened since I was in my teens and twenties. :smh:

Sad thing is I know dude,we went to the same church growing up. Not true at all! Its as of late that every rapper that comes out wants to be a thug or better yet, every thug wants to get in the game. Back in the days there was a good mixture. Tribe Called Quest, L.O.N.S, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, Da La Soul, Public Enemy, Poor Righteous Teachers, MC Lyte, Stetsonic, Run DMC, Special Ed, Pharcyde, Digital Underground ...this list goes on. Hip Hop wasnt always negative...and if you think so, you obviously dont know anything about hip hop. Go do some research!!

I've been saying the same shit for the last year. Damn near every Black person I know is on the, "Obama is going to change the whole game up" tip. They couldn't be more wrong if they wanted to. If he is elected, in reality few things --if any-- will really change. Most people don't understand that the President is just a figure head, the power lies in the House and Senate. I can only hope that pride will kick in one day for my people... because shit ain't looking good. :(
