I've always had quite the imagination and I've thought about creating my own characters for a while now. I'm currently in the procees of sketches. Can't draw much but I know what I want to create. Bottom line is that I want to make a few of my characters as toys and don't know where to start . I see that there are a lot of intelligent brothers on the board who really know what they are talking about. I was wondering if you guys can give me a starting point and guide me in the right direction.

Thanks!!! :D

I've seen many young people make their own toys. All of them were in art school. Start there and learn how to make the toy, create the packaging, and market your product. Good luck.

dudes advice is good, but you don't need to go to art school. you do need to build a certain knowledge base on character design though. you can take a course or self teach  with dvd tutorials. i might suggest that you don't waste too much time sketching. especially since you're not that good right now. instead get a 3d modeling program and learn how to use that. unless you rip it from the net....one of the best pro softwares i can recommend for about $600 is ZBRUSH. this shit will bring out the creative tyrannosaurus in you. get good at it and you may have a career in concept designing, for movies and shit.
