This is an excellent mini-series. It really makes you appreciate what the founding fathers did to create this country. I know many are going to say,"fuck those crackas, they all owned slaves!". John Adams never owned a slave because he was an abolitionist. Anyway, it's a great show. Anyone else peepin' that shit?!

:hmm:
yea killing, raping, and robbing native Americans of their land. Taking African men, women, and children from their land and forcing them into slavery was brilliant...

:hmm:

Interesting that you should post this. I watched the first three shows this morning on HBO On Demand.

History is always captivating for me. Regardless of the characters or if I'm for or against. It's still history.

I'll wait for the DL's, don't give the so-called "founding fathers" too much credit my dude. They created a system that still to this day is hostile to people of color. This may be a interesting series, but let it blind you to brutal oppression committed by whites in the past and in many cases the present.

More of that white boy propaganda.

(i.e. 300, just about all US war movies, almost all Westerns, etc.)

It looks good but that's why propaganda is so effective.

Just ask Hitler.

Thanks for attempting to hip me to shit I already know. I find the show fascinating, not because of the oppressive system we still live under, but it paints the picture of what they had to go through much better than anything I've ever seen or read. What part of "know thy enemy" do you guys not get? And, by the way, it is propaganda, but as long as you take a proper gander at it, it won't effect you.

An example, for those who don't have a chip on their shoulder and just hate without discretion, in one part Abigail, Adams' wife, has to inoculate her and her children to avoid dying from the plague. When you see what doctors had to do in those times, it will give you a greater appreciation for modern medicine and also how hard it was to live in those days. Granted, slaves and indians had it even worse. I completely co-sign on that, but it's a great mini-series to augment anyone's knowledge on the founding of the United States. The greatest country in the world, last time I checked. Even with it's huge, immense disparities and problems. The Constitution and Bill of Rights gives us a fighting chance we still use to this day. Imagine how bad the oppression would be if we were under a different rule. Cats complain about the ghetto and how tough they have it, when many living in the ghetto have some form of food, clothing, shelter. Throw in internet, a/c, cable TV, designer clothes and the like and cats still want to act like they don't have it better than 80% of the rest of the world even with all the bullshit racism and second class citizenship we go through.

I been watching this series from the start. It's pretty good.

They did address slavery on the show when Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Ben Franklin and Adams was kinda shocked when they read it.

The way they presented it was that to get the south to join the union, they had to turn a blind eye to slavery. similiar type of politics used today.

Peace.

Not to mention that there were many divisions throughout the colonies. This goes for show that TRUE unity isn't about following the same mindset. Its more about agreeing to disagree on some issues, yet, love each other like true brothers and sisters should. There's a lot of learning you can get from watching this mini series.

As for the propaganda statement, if you are so shallow to just look at what race the characters are, then there's no way of changing your thought process. Your hate, will limit your life...

It's not a matter of what 'you" look at as black men. It's knowing what "they" see when they look at you. Note i said "know". What you do with that info is on you. But pretending most white people are'nt closet racists won't make it go away.

Back to the topic, I took close note of the boston massacre scene to see if they would accurately show a black man was the first one shot. They did, so props on it's accuracy. The acting and production values are top notch also.

I just like the way they present his as flawed as a motherfucker is the way it was. Its almost if he felt under appreciated for his part in starting this experiment of democracy. Shit he thought America would end up needing a monarch anyway. And the show is just grimey and doesn't cut corners. From the alcoholism of his son, the poor health (teeth decay especially), to almost losing his wife a couple of times and the shit when the fucking Presidential residence got robbed blind after Washington left office was just straight up eye opening. They are doing a good job bringing you back.

I AM TRULY GLAD SOME OF MY BROTHERS SEE THE ADVANTAGE IN WATCHING THIS MINI-SERIES!!!!!! I've learned some interesting things when it comes to how revolution makes a man think and re-think his positions constantly when weighing his life and that of his loved ones. Extremely eye opening! Please be reminded, in the scene where Adams is accepting the presidency, that was the first time a man in power willfully stepped down from office. Washington was in a position to stay president in perpetuity and he chose differently. The only other time I can think of is when Tiberius Gracchus did that in Rome, but if I'm not mistaken, there is some evidence which supports he stepped down out of fear for his life. I don't believe that to be the case with Washington, but one should always wonder what goes on behind closed doors and is never recorded for posterity as history.

:dunno:kind of thought that this country was built off the backs of slaves and native americans, since the euros didnt know how to farm properly :dunno: just a thought

That scene were they tried to saw dude that got shot leg off was crazy.
John adams was stubborn as shit i started to hate his ass when he first got to paris.

John A and his son John Q. really put it down for americans in all forms white black indian americans period. They were the voice of the voiceless at that time much respect to them, they could took the road of hancock washington and jefferson get paid do enough, just to say they did something they retired with enough money that their families today are still wealthy i.e. many of the hedge fund and giant lenders are direct creations of that old money. Im glad somebody else besides me watches somethin on HBO besides the wire sopranos and OZ.

You ever consider the fact that Washington's health was an issue? He dropped dead two years after leaving office. Maybe he knew something that no one else did...

I just don't know what to say to all this other than the

PROPAGANDA has accomplished its purpose.

Now, if this were a story about the plight of slaves during that period (for once), that would be impressive.

F*** this honkey, white supremacist, Euro-centric, whiteboy apologetic, government-loving, President praising, slave minimizing, Indian-destroying, land-stealing, labor-thieving BS.

How many stories do these evil Mofos get? Why don't they put this time and effort into telling our history and struggles during this time?

I tried sitting through it I really tried, but I just couldn't get past the suger coating propaganda that still exists to day taught to our youngsters everyday at school.

I've read many books on the subject matter and John Adams nor his boy were very upstanding, they were just pragmatic and practical. Slavery and the seatruction of native americans was of no social concern of theirs.

Just the maintaining of the established colonies.

I agree with all of your words. I did have a problem seeing Paul Giamatti as john Adams for the first three or four episodes. Now that we see what a cocksucker he was as a person, I think the casting crew knows more than I do about acting. I hate his flaws just as much as I hated 'Pig Vomit' from Howard Stern's Private Parts.

I don't think that is anyone's duty but our own. I refuse to wait for these demons to do anything for us to be honest, and I agree with everything you're saying, but I don't think ignoring information is the answer. When I read a book I am always mindful of the source. Who is the author? What might his agenda be? etc. Same thing goes for movies, but you can't take away from the fact that it provides the viewer with valuable information. How you use that info within your perspective is up to you.

You ever consider the fact that Washington's health was an issue? He dropped dead two years after leaving office. Maybe he knew something that no one else did...
Good point! I did not.

kind of thought that this country was built off the backs of slaves and native americans, since the euros didnt know how to farm properly just a thought
Wholeheartedly agree. It's still a good show. I believe some have a problem with it because it has to do with our history as well. Some of these same brothers saying the show is "fucked up" are the same guys who love Scarface or Godfather or ________ (insert gangster film here). Just because it is of historical significance and it doens't focus on the plight of our native brethren or our ancestors does not make it useless or not worth watching.

Thankfully there are some people who do know how to digest and appreciate this type of tv programming.

I think this is one of the best mini series I've seen in a long time. I have always been intrigued by history. I never knew they dealt with some of the shit that this series is showing. John Adams was getting his grind on to start this country and break from the British. They fact that he went to other countries to get their financial and military support kind of surprised me.

Those of you that can only think of shit to say like "fuck the founding fathers" have no clue about the African's that sold us into slavery in the first damn place. Get a clue about the world and stop hatting when someone tries to enlighten your ignorant ass.
