White baby names...

Yeah...not so much, lol! That one is more stereotype than anything else. I don't know too many white girls actually named Becky (maybe Rebecca). It's like they say Tyrone is a common black name, u know? And how many tyrone's do u actually know?

I personally know 2 Tyrones and 1 Becky (her given name is Rebecca)

For a professor, you come off really stupid..

You think Jody is my REAL name?

Internet niggas, I swear...

If you got an issue, lay it out for the whole board to see..

My name is based on a song: Mr Jody, by Marvin Cease.

Listen to it, the come back for your spanking..

Oh, and, you mother is a bitch...
That is all..
:lol::lol::lol:

You think a name prejudicates a person? Lets say at a job interview? I think it holds weight, if and when I do have children, I'll make sure I pick a name anyone can pronounce at first glance and still be representive of my culture.

Don't even let that be a consideration. My last name is "Houston" and I still get people that want to pronounce it "howston" or I have to spell it for them (they insist on leaving out the "u").

At some point all names are made up, and it is only when they become commonplace that they become legitimate in the minds of those who hold the most power. I never understood why many Black people are afraid to not name their children that aren't European sounding names. It is like people want respect but emulating the names of others will never get you respect. Also if they have a hard time with a name then they are racist to begin with so there really isn't anything you can do about that.

Grow up!! Let people name their kids whatever they want you do the same. People are so caught up on trivial bullshit like what someone names their child we miss the important stuff. Let's all just make sure we don't raise serial killers and crack heads. BTW my parents gave me the whitest name you ever imagine and it has helped me on some many levels.

i know like 2 im just saying now a brother named billy i have never met

I have known alot of Billy's but that name was more in the last generation however the guard from Georgia Billy Humphrey who was just released from the team is a brotha..Billy White Shoes Johnson.Keyboard player from the Tenessee State Gospel Choir was Billy Summers..ect ect ect.....Now ain't to many brothers go by William :lol:

It's all about society's perception when it comes to a name. Yes, a name says a lot when it comes to an interview. Think....if you were to be shopping in a Jos A Bank, or some other "high class" store and over the loud speaker you hear, "Shaniqua, come to the front please" or "Samantha come to the front please" which one sounds "better."

Sadly, this is just one of the ways a name weighs in on the hiring process.

Alex is the only one that comes to mind right now. I don't know any brotha's out there who are named Alex

... 2 black men named Alex..

Contrary to popular belief

the corporate crackers don't want every1 to have a standard honkey name... white people like to feel as if they are well-cultured and they like to associate themselves with people of multiple ethnicities... granted, "hood" names are never really well-accepted, there is nothing wrong with a cultural name, as long as it isn't 2 weird of a spelling/pronunciation

but as others have said, at the end of the day, worry about the kid thats born, not his/her name... b4 we get all trivial about names, lets hope we have healthy/productive kids

i've seen grown men cut their dreds to go apply for jobs (that they didnt get)... i've seen others change their name completely... an asian dude named Kong wanted to be called David... i dunno the translation, but that shit don't seem like a match

but back to my original point... the corporate honkeys like wen other corporate honkeys have typical honkey names... but when they do decide to branch out n hire a non-honkey, it's usually to diversify the work place, and it kinda defeats the purpose to hire an asian dude name William or an black guy named Preston

Names in the English speaking world whether black or white are generally chosen by how they sound.....However in bygone times and in other parts of the world there is a social science in how names are given to children and attention is paid to that science before a name is chosen.
Different cultures have different sciences as to how they select their names and the meaning of the name is generally very important........
