I don't know, man. A bunch of guys (though probably not high-income, high profile guys like Sean) find a lot of ways to avoid paying child support. Staying low in the 'hood living off other girlfriends; not working; don't own shit. There's nothing to garnish and nothng to seize or put a lien on. Someimes the only thing that will get their attention is spending some time "on vacation" with strict follow-up when they get out. Sure a lot of the baby mommas are scamming but a bunch really need help. It breaks my heart to see so many teenage girls pushing that stroller all by themselves out in the middle of nowhere trying to get the groceries home. Not a damn baby daddy in sight. Generalizing, yes. But too much of it is the sad truth.
Shit - Trying hard to leave this thread but much of this topic is very close to my heart.
I run a non-profit family advocacy group in The Bronx. We also work with teen pregnancy. There are actual legal ways of "avoiding" child support. In fact, many parents don't know that they don't HAVE to pay child support. I have posted this stuff in the past.
As for these teen mom pushing strollers. I will tell you like I tell my groups on the first day. I don't and won't feel sorry for any of you. The union of a male and female must be taken very seriously. Sure, many of them come from jacked up family structure that neither offered support or encouraged this lifestyle...in the end...will they be able to get to work on time, take of that child and complete their education...that is all that matters. If someone helps you that would be great...don't hold your breath...Become self-sufficient and empower your children to do the same.
Many of the times, these mother don't alert the fathers of their children properly causing a poison to build up in their begining family life.
What is a truly sad shame is the rise since 2004 IMO of single fathers raising kids solo (mother abandonment) that is not properly supported.
For example many of the affordable child care programs have sections that only say "Mother sign here." Many times one of my workers have to go with them to get the service completed because these groups just won't take men.
Here is another stats that never gets looked at. Do you know how many men are ordered to pay child support for children they are raising? I don't know have that number. Would love to find that stat though.
I got a 17 year old male with twins that the 21 year old mother abandonded in the hospital and moved to Florida. He has been ordered to appear in Child Support court in FL for the said twins he has custody of in NYC. Luckly, he is in my program so this won't be hard issue to kill.
Child support never verify custody nor do they verify support usage unless neglect has been identified but by then it's too late.
