It has been reported yesteday that Sean Levert was acting strange and having hallucinations in jail but more light is being shed on the situation today. He was screaming for his anxiety medication and said his wife was on her way to bring it to him. Sources say he wouldn’t stop screaming and acting out so he was actually put in a straitjacket and transfered to the psych ward. A little after that he stopped responding. The question now is did he die in prison or at the hospital? They are also investigating whether or not he received that medication.

CLEVELAND, OH (March 31, 2008) — The family of Sean Levert has released the following statement regarding the death of their beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin & father: “There are no words that can express what we are feeling today. "avoiding" was written like this to make a point of what is Child support. Too many ppl are under the assumption that child support is money when it is not.

It only becomes an issue of money if both parties agree to it.

Child Support is suppose to be an actual support system for a child that covers the NEEDs - Education, Shelter (includes clothing/food/childcare), Medical and/or Spiritual Issues.

If you go into court and the magistrate says "Let me see you pay stubs." and you provide them without asking for an accounting of the actual support as per financial disclosure forums appendum D. You basically say "All I want to do is pay."

If a parent provides the needs - there will be a variance from the percentages which can be anyway from 0 to under 17% per child.

Considering the last several post. I think we are missing the point a bit. My pops went to court paid a lawyer mad money to deny he was even my sperm-doner to get out of paying child support. Consequently, me my brothers and my moms had it rough even though she worked three or four jobs to put a rough over our heads. Now here it is 20 years later and he still plays the "how come you don't come and see me" role. Nah fuck that, if a man is brave enough to do the crime rather it be selling dope or not paying his child support to support HIS children. Then he should be man enough to take his punishment whatever that maybe. That's what I teach my three boys. And if the black community especially could enforce this among these young folks then maybe fatherhood, and family life wouldn't be such a damn joke!!!

Like Ive been saying--they dont give a fuck about physical and emotional support, or the wellbeing of families on either side--they just want that cash kicked up.

Until this changes and visitation and custody are enforced just as stridently as the financial committment, families will stay fucked up.

And there should definitely be a more flexible process for modifying the court order--doesnt make sense in an economy sliding into recession or worse, that income changes arent recognized by the court.

A lot of people in this thread say people shouldn't be thrown in jail for not paying child support but don't realize it usually takes a long time before the situation gets to that point. $85K is a lot of cheese for the average American. Also, it's not counter productive to put the offender in jail since the child wasn't receiving the $ anyway. If anything, the government is using it as a way to get labor in return for having to support the man's child. In other words, like all things, it's either ass (labor), gas, or cash. No one rides for free. The government also sees it as punishment for a crime...which in most cases it is. People simply don't put the children first. I know nothing of Sean's case so I'm not speaking on that but in general the child's not the priority if the non-custodial parent is paying absolutely nothing and the support arrears reaches damn near $100K. In Sean's case, he may have been ordered an absurd monthly amount compared to his income. Again, I don't know. Is the court system fucked up and slanted towards women? Yes, without a doubt. As someone pointed out, he was a black man in America. Shit is not fair. This is not new.
