Birth Control...the risks

Flash that was the situation that ish put me in. Men have no idea what women go through with that chemical stuff. I give thanks that I had family and friends that cared and knew enough to step in and help me.

Harlem I hope that you watch your diet etc because taking all that stuff is most unnatural and it will have effects dear.

Peace

I quit a couple months ago...i miss the security but the effects aren't worth it...

I tried the I.U.D and it worked best for me. But I've heard some horror stories
I see more and more women using the IUDs now. It's weird because a while ago that was the worst form of birth control on the market but now a a good percent of women are using it.

What effect does alcohol have on birth control?

You probably won't find a clear answer to this question anywhere. But drinking alcohol and taking any medication can decrease it's effectiveness or have the opposite effect of increasing the amount of drug in the body which will basically making you feel sick.

As for me. . . I used to get Depo shot and I used to get all the side effects. . . Mood swings. . heavy bleeding. All that. It was just a bad experience. My experience with the pill was ok. The only side effect I experienced was weight gain. But I don't think I'll ever go back on birth control. It's best to just use a condom and leave it at that.

Some very eye opening comments here.

I have always used condoms with my ladies- but they have burst a few times

Fortunately, they were cool about taking the morning after pill

Ladies, have you had any adverse effects to this? What measures would you take after a split condom if you are opposed to popping pills?

THE M A P
The Morning-After Pill

The morning after pill is a combination of high does female hormones (estrogen and progestin). It is an emergency back-up measure for a woman who has had unprotected intercourse or who was using a contraceptive method that failed (i.e. a broken condom). It should not be used as a regular birth control method because the dosage of the hormones is quite highand can disrupt the menstrual cycle.

The morning after pill does not provide any protection against STDs. It should also be noted that the morning after pill is a special combination of female hormones, it is NOT equivalent to 2 or 3 regular birth control pills.

The morning after pill must be taken within 72 hours of having unprotected intercourse and is most effective within the first 12-24 hours. Overall, its effectiveness is ~75-90 %. It is believed that the pill prevents pregnancy by slowing down the rate at which the egg travels through the fallopian tube and altering the uterine lining so that the egg, if fertilized, cannot implant and begin to develop.

Women who need emergency contraception are given 2 Ovral pills to be taken immediately and 2 Ovral pills to be taken exactly 12 hours later. Nausea and vomiting are common side effects. If vomiting occurs within 2 hours of taking the pills, 2 additional pills should be taken. In addition, Gravol can be taken before each set of pills to try and avoid this problem. Gravol is an anti-nausea drug that can be purchased in any pharmacy without a prescription, but it can make you drowsy. Often Gravol is given out with the Ovral pills.

Once the Ovral pills have been taken, menstruation should resume anytime within the following 3 weeks. If menstruation does not resume in that time frame, then a pregnancy test should be taken. It generally takes 14-21 days after intercourse for a pregnancy test to show a positive result in the event of pregnancy.

I can NOT take it. I would NOT take it.

When I was younger, my doctor wanted to put me on one to regulate my period. I didn't have any acne or anything, but it was just to help regulate it. Now that I'm older, I'm happy I never did and will continue not to. I stick with good ole' condoms with my current guy, cause it's just not worth it with all those side effects...

To regulate it, I just started to manage my eating habits better, exercise and watch my sleeping habits. Sure enough, once I got into a good routine, my menstrual cycle regulated itself. I know it took a while to get there, but it was better than adding some foreign substance into my body. And, the trip part is I know TONS of women that eat organic foods and don't believe in taking any kind of cold and cough medicines because of what is in them...BUT, they take birth control pills :smh:

THE MORNING AFTER PILL IS LIKE A MINI ABORTION!!!

My best friend did it and was in bed for two days.... Not gonna happen for me....

Well that's way different. The BC is just hormones that are found in your body naturally for the most part....Cold medicine is something totally different.

:smh:

Those side effects are troublesome to me...except for the last two I experience those symptoms on a daily basis and I'm not on birth control. In fact when I was on the pill I felt great.

It was on that damn Depo that I felt weird- didn't want to have sex.

My cousin is studying to be a nurse and she said she don't want no type of female birth control at all because of how it fuck with your system. Said she'd rather count her days of fertilization.

The Morning After Pill is not a mini abortion. The abortion pill contains mifepristone. That kills the fetus. Standard MAP's contain increased dosages of estrogen (to stop ovulation) and progestin (kills sperm and prevents fertilization). If there already was a implantation of an egg on the vaginal walls, the MAP would not kill the fetus. It's too late at that point. Estrogen and Progestin alone are not powerful enough to do that.

I totally forgot to mention that!!! That happened to me also on the pill and on the Depo. I didn't wanna have sex at all. It sucked because it was all of sudden and the person I was with thought that it was his fault. Just a bad situation :smh:

 Good info. You are exactly right.

Ladyscorpio, the pill at one time was looked upon as one of the greatest accomplishments by the medical community. When used properly it controlled births, and for many women was also used regulate their cycles.

It also freed men from the need for condoms. Wow natural sex! Until the pill, condoms were the most effective means of birth control available. But they weren't good for everyone. A percentage of women had allergic reactions to the materials manufacturers used to produce comdoms. So the pill became the greatest option and stimulus for what was then the sexual revolution. Contraception creams were a big mess and oral sex was out of the question once they were brought into play.

Unfortunately nothing is perfect, your experence is proof of that. (Too bad you suffered from what may have been a simple mistake.) Plus the pill doesn't protect against STDs. More of a concern today than getting pregnant.

The other options for men aren't that appealing either. Many a man became a father using coitus interruptus and the only other option for men requires surgery. The options available for men at present are not very appealing, especially for young men.

So ladies don't think men are insensitive to what women go through to protect yourselves. We know more than you think.

I had a broken condom scare once and took that. Never again. That shit made me so sick I can't even describe. Plus ever since I took it, the sun feels like its going to kill me dead. Before I used to stay working in the hot sun and it didn't even phase me. I would just advise refraining from taking that unless absolutely necessary. I have met women here in the states that have taken it many many times. Not good.

i don't think its for everyone. this one chick i was with, broken condom
too. she said it was the most painful periods she has ever had. lasted days
too.

i also know a couple chicks who are in long distance relationships and take
it as a way to bring their periods so as to not have the period interrupt when
its their man's visiting time.
