wigs and weave!

lazy?...i literally spent all day making my hair curly...which i could have done with a wig...and it would have took 5 mins to get the same look!!

ok but lemme ask u this...what if she had nice hair under the wig...and wore it ocassionally...would u mind

Ocassionally...no. I am not a complete asshole. Compromise. I live by that word. And why haven't the Sista's answered my question: If I or your man accept you w/o othe wigs, weaves or hair pieces, why is that a problem? Ifk we accept and like the short hair cuts, why is that a problem?.

:angry:Ok... I am an avid weave/wig consumer. Since I was a young girl, I have always wanted to look different, and achieve styles my hair would not tolerate. So my question is... what difference does it make if it looks nice? If it isn't damaging your natural hair and makes you feel confident when you enter a room, who cares if your rock hair from your scalp, or hair that's sewn to a net? Not once would I call a person who decides to wear hair pieces lazy, because weave/wigs require work also, and to be called an imitator... :smh: well that is a slap in the face. Who are we trying to imitate.

Caucasian women have been wearing extensions for years!

Now, in no way am I trying to bash you for your comment, but most of the men I know can not tell the difference. Quality weave/wigs are not detectable. I think that’s wear a lot of women go wrong. So to those who have thought about it, but aren't sold... do your research, find a stylist who has mastered the art of human and artificial hair and you can't go wrong.

Yeah girl they wear so many extensions it's not funny. They get weaves too. Women in general like to switch up.

They were rocking lace wigs way before the sistas caught on.

I wear weaves during the winter to keep my hair protected. My hair is mid back length,so I have alot of it.I like getting rollersets

It's not a problem. But it's our hair, so we have to wear it how we like too. Sometimes how he likes it, sometimes how we like it

I personally don't like weaves, I say work with what you've got. If you don't have it then don't try and front like you do....
Fix it up and make it beautiful!

That being said, I can still respect a good weave. I've been suprised a few times when tellin someone their hair is so nice and they respond its a weave. They are just not for me. And wigs are cool with me as long as its a once in a while thing.

Also I love braids. I like it for the in between when I've just cut my hair and got tired of the style and wanna grow my hair back out. Put some braids in for a month and I'm good to go...
BTW, Oxy, how do you get urs so fine, my braids are always so thick even though the braids are micro. Is it because I have thick hair?

JofromthaNO, CT's Finest, INVICTUS3RD, Iron: Thanks for the comps! I havent rocked straight hair for a minute and when I did it was my hair that I had hot combed. I think that was around the time I posted my confirmation pic's here on the board. But braids are like my trademark. I just feel like me in them.

INVICTUS3RD:
To answer your question I would say there is no problem. If my man had a preference for short, natural hair then that is how I would rock it....If I liked it that way as well. My husband doesnt like weaves. He hates tracks and that color mess. And so do I. I hate seeing a chick w/ a ton of weave that is pink or blue.....EWWWWWW:smh: But ultimatley the choice is the womans and what makes her feel comfy.

Harlems Angel-Believe it or not my hair is thick. But I go to the Nigerian sisters here and they braid it the width that I want. And what is funny is that I normally get them smaller!

its not the actual braid that is thick it's the hair that hangs out that is thick... I hope I'm explaining it correctly. The hair at the bottom is so thick I can put it into a huge bun.... looks nice but is a lil much to manage...

Thank you ladies for your compliments...I've been afraid to post on the anonymous posts thread, cause you guys have some seriously beautiful bodies and pictures...it's a little intimidating, plus I'm still working on the body...

I don't know if someone has said it yet but if you guys are looking for wigs to try and play around with. Try this site, I shop there faithfully, and they take paypal for those of you who don't want to use credit. http://www.hairsisters.com . They always have a sale going on and you can really get cheap wigs just to see how they work with you. I have many wigs from there and not many people know I wear a wig.....oh and to the guy who said it denotes laziness....I agree.....it does....lol. But it also is just something different too, I have straight hair and not alot of money to get my hair wavey every two weeks at salon so I spend that money on a good wavey wig and keep it moving........muah. I would post pics but I'm scared.......lol. I'm terrified of this site....

OnyxFemme,
I have a feeling you can pull off any hairstyle you choose to wear. You happen to be blessed with those features....Just a brotha making an observation.

One,

Awww thanks! Even w/ my big forehead?? Seriously check the forehead..lololol Naaaw I am just kidding...For real thanks for the comp.

Mzmillion: First I love your online name. That is cute....I used to be scared of BGOL, but over here on SOL it is the mature crowd...Go on girl...Post a pic:D

hmmm interesting thread

well i have and probably would wear weaves, braids, and a wig again.

i love my own hair...i've gone natural, went relaxed, colored it, cut it, shaved it, braided it..all that and its all good

i have thick and i mean thick hair...my hair curls when it gets wet but recently i relaxed it after being natural for 6 years and cut it (my hair was long and i have been gradually cutting it)

if i want a different look that wont damage my hair and is quick...i'll rock a weave

BUT

i need the hair to MATCH my texture....my hair is soft and its NOT kinky and NOT bone straight so i will NOT be getting hair that looks like either. i'm NOT getting weave down to my ass either. i was raised to believe that the idea of weave is for it to look like it is urs not some animal growing off ur head.

i would post a couple of pics of my hair transformation but...i'm not ready for the face shots..lol

maybe one day soon. It's funny, I come here alot, but I never ventured on this side until recently and I'm liking it so far. I'll stick around for a while. And thanks for the love on the name......

mine too...shoot ive even seen her wear it a few times

i have a friend who has similar hair to what u described..her hair is so cute.....i cant stand both

if my hair looked cute if i let it naturally air dry id prolly just wear it that way instead of using heat/curlers

but my hair looks like a hot mess when i let it air dry

it also doesnt help i really dont know how to "do" hair (ive been getting my hair done professionally since i was 8...the first time i washed my own hair was in college!!)

now i have thought about going natural...3 of my sorority sisters have natural hair they wear pressed and it looks amazing...but like i said...my natrual hair texture is a disaster

I think you have to not be scared to start over with your hair... The texture that you think your hair is, won't be the same once you cut it off. I've started my hair over and so did my best friend. I have naturally curly hair and thought I needed to perm it, but that did more damage than good and so I cut it all off.. Now I know that all I need is a good doobie from the Dominicans to get that straightness I like.

MY best friend had to cut ALLL her hair off, and it was mid back, due to perms and stuff, she rocked a short curly afro for some time, then went braids to let it grow some, but then she just let the Dominicans do their thing.

The point of that is, you're never going to be able to do most of the things you want with your hair until you get rid of that permed mess. Once you start over and train your hair, you won't think of wigs and weaves the same again. Not to say you won't use them, but you'll be able to have much more versatility to your own hair.

Very nice. Charlotte huh? You actually remind me of someone. She lives in the DC area, but there is bit of a resemblance...

I get the, "you remind me of someone..." a lot...particularly ladies from the DC/MD metro area...lol...I guess I just have that look...

to answer your question...

its not always about yall (yall=men)

yes we try to be cute...but i try different styles and dress a certain way cause I like the way it looks...thats all

the big chop :(

i dunno if i could ever do that...i put so much time effort and money into my hair now...to chop it off i would have no idea where to start...

not to mention my head is way to big for a short cut:lol:

my natural hair is such a beast...i dunno if i could ever trust a system other than a perm to get it under control

thanks for the advice

Wow you sound like me. . .. I've done it all.

My hair is natural now. . . I wear it braids a lot now. I wear microbraids. . and when i feel wearing my hair down. I just wash it, blow dry it and use my ceramic iron it.

Ok now OnyxFemme, you didn't have to call a bruva out like that (smiles)....Yes, I am partial to chocolate, but I don't discriminate...I love all 40 something shades of my sistas.

D

your hair looks really good...is that weave or yours?

chemical or natural

It's all mine...I get it chemically straightened, and flat iron it to get it to be sleek like that... I'm trying to grow it out to the length it was in college (almost middle of back) now, so that's why I did the curly set and will probably do that a few more times cause it's less heat and styling for my hair...

And, thanks for the compliment!

Yes, I've got a man... I put HIM up on BGOL

But, I'm straight New Orleanian, born and raised...well, minus the crazy accent...lol
