i never have worn wigs or weave in my life...but now im seriously contemplating

i have med/long hair (falls a little bit before my bra strap)...all mine of course

but very chemically treated (perm and color) causing me to wear my hair straight most of the time

id like to wear different styles (wavey and curly) but i dont like putting all the heat on my hair

as i sit under the dryer with curlers in my hair i have decided that theres gotta be a better way to do this!....im gonna get a wig!

ladies...do u wear wigs or weave...why or why not.... and where is a good place to get a good quality wig

men...how do u feel about women with fake hair

I've never worn a wig or weave, but my hairstylist says that every woman needs a good wig in her closet for those bad hair days. Some of them look really nice nowadays.

I have med/shoulder length naturally curly hair. I may play with wigs in pics I load on the net but I don't do fake hair. I tried to get braids in the past but my hair is funny about not being washed every other day. I've even tried sew in but I took it out the next day:smh: it felt too heavy. If you've gone without weave and you have nice hair I'd suggest you stick with it. I like a different look from time to time when I take pictures so I'll put a wig on for fun.

Never worn wigs/weaves. I've got too much of my own hair. Closest I got is extensions every once in a while when I used to wear braids. Only had a perm for 2 years of my life before getting rid of it (it killed my hair). I wear my hair kinky or pressed out if I want it straight. If I want to wear it down, but don't feel like paying a stylist I'll blow dry it and then braid it down. It comes out wavy and pretty. Flat iron to touch up the edges and tame it a little bit. And yes I have "bad" hair days, but I still look good. Shoot

if my hair looked cute if i let it naturally air dry id prolly just wear it that way instead of using heat/curlers

but my hair looks like a hot mess when i let it air dry

it also doesnt help i really dont know how to "do" hair (ive been getting my hair done professionally since i was 8...the first time i washed my own hair was in college!!)

now i have thought about going natural...3 of my sorority sisters have natural hair they wear pressed and it looks amazing...but like i said...my natrual hair texture is a disaster

Nope. I play with my hair too much and I have to wash it every week. I think they are beautiful though Is it a fetish if I like men with locs?

 you can still wash your hair every week and play with it you know. i stay playing with my locs.

I'm with you. I don't know how to do hair either. I've been working on wearing my hair natural for about 13 years now and only recently have I figured my system out.

If you want to start growing out the perm, you gotta do it with the help of a stylist and you have to either cut off all of the perm or get trims religiously.

For the natural hair, you need a good detangler and you can't just let the hair air dry like white hair. I usually put in a leave in detangling conditioner and then put at least 4 braids in my head and let it dry like that. When you take the braids out, it will be crinkly but not tangled up and napped out.

Then I can put a head band on or put it in a cute poofy ponytail. You have to braid it down every night and keep it moisturized (Pink oil is my stuff). Other than that, I keep it really simple day to day and when I have someplace special to go, I see a stylist.

do u use carol's daughter hair products? i heard they were really good for natural hair...i actually even bought some...but its not too good for relaxed hair

ok but heres my problem with natural hair....my hair isnt curly...nor is it really kinky...it has a very weird natural curl to it and its not cute...to to mention it naps up at the roots...i would really have to wear an afro or something

how do u deal with your roots?

You know what I mean, like run my fingers through the strands? I like to play with locs too though

my locs are small. i run my fingers thru them much like strands. i dunno i love them and they so much easier.

Ladies...may I? A man's POV.

I hate it when a sister wears a wig, weaves or hair piece.:angry::angry:

Braids, locs...those are cool, but that other stuff is lousy. It denotes laziness. Now I know I am gonna catch hell for this, but I do not care. I love my natural sisters. Short hair or close cuts are cool with me. No complaints. But when a sister wears those other things, it is like the Original trying to imitate carbon copies.

Sisters, we black men love our sisters with their own hair, no colored contacts, real breasts and all that...Yeah we go crazy on the other board for them sisters with all that long, fake hair...but that is because they are naked...that is what we are looking at. BUT...and this is the truth...If a sister poses with her clothes on and she has nice legs, behind and chest, but wears a wig, for me, before the night goes on, I am gonna ask her what she looks like w/o the fake stuff.
Of course I get the rolling of the eyes, but what can I say. I love real hair on my sistas.

Thank you for letting me share.

Well there are alot of sisters that suffer from alopecia. And what about those whose hair has thinned out since cancer treatment, such as myself?

And yes, I am lazy.

I rock wigs and weaves and lace fronts or whatever I feel like.

Sounds pretty. I'm not 100% opposed to growing them myself. We'll see in the future.

How does it nap up at the root?
Oh well. I'll just tell you what I do. I use any shampoo just to get it clean. Suave, Garnier, whatever. But I pay a lot for conditioners. I use Mizani, Pantene and Sunsilk Anti-Poof conditioners all together. And I use a whole lof of it. Once a month I add in a protein or cholesterol conditioner. Then I take a wide toothed comb and start combing up from the tips of my hair. Then I braid it in 4 braids and put on a shower cap. I usually go do laundry or dishes for at least 30 minutes to let the conditioner sit in there. Then I wash it out and spray in a leave-in detangling conditioner. I comb through starting at the tips again and then I go from there, depending on if I'm going to blow dry or keep it natural.

Forgot to say that I use a moisturizing lotion or cream if I'm going to use heat on my hair or not.

As a man I honestly dont care if a woman has a wig or a weave as long as it looks good on you. It can be natural, short, long, locs, weave, braids or whatever, just keep it lookin good

lazy?...i literally spent all day making my hair curly...which i could have done with a wig...and it would have took 5 mins to get the same look!!

ok but lemme ask u this...what if she had nice hair under the wig...and wore it ocassionally...would u mind

 Black hair is not easy to deal with. When I get lazy I have "bad hair days" or I'll pull it back in a bun & look like I'm 12 years old

As a man I prefer a woman with natural beauty. There's nothing better than a woman who knows how to get the most out of her physical assets. That means no weaves and/or wigs, little or no make up, real nails, etc. Ladies, I think you should understand what styles work for you as well as those that don't and dress accordingly...

my hair is very curly/nappy at the roots...then gets straighter the longer it is...so when i go long without a perm the roots of my hair get OUT OF CONTROL

i use mizani also...along with keracare (THE BEST PRODUCT FOR RELAXED HAIR EVER)

what kind of heat do u use on your hair

I have chemically straightened dark brown hair with highlights that hangs below my shoulders. Recently, I let my stylist set it on foam rods/rollers and this was the result:

The style lasted for over two weeks, and it got bigger and crazier (which I loved!) as the time went on...I got many compliments, and all I did every night was cover my hair with a silk bonnet and use a polisher/defrizzer from Optimum Care on the individual curls so they wouldn't get too frizzy.

I would suggest playing with curls/textures this way before you commit to a weave/wig. For me, it was a style I never thought I could do until I actually asked my stylist about it...

Love it! I got a straw set a couple of years ago & loved it the first few days, but without a perm it doesn't last as long

ok try a twist out. make 2 strand twists with loc gel(not regular gel) while your hair is wet. yes best to sit under dryer but if you can't leave it twist til you KNOW its 100% dry and then some and then untwist and it looks lovely. lasts a good 2 weeks too if you wrap it at night. That was my thing before I locked. Actually I do the same thing with my locs.

^^^i agree!!

very very cute!!

ive heard of people putting plats in thier wet hair and letting it dry...but i like the way she did yours better!...very very cute

and your shirt looks cute too

Black & Gold blow dryer with the $5 comb attachment that you can tighten since my naps kept breaking the cheap ones that came with the dryer. If I want to flat iron before braiding it down, I use my $15 ceramic flat iron from Walmart:

You could also buy it for $25 from the Andis website. I don't use it a lot, just at the roots to calm my hair down a little bit so that I can wear it down without it being an afro

Oooooooooohhhhh! That's sounds great. O.K. I'm gonna try it and post pics! Thanks!

True, true! My homegirl does this with her hair...she actually plats it every night, and finger combs them out in the morning...it looks good and the effect is almost the same as my foam roller set.

:angry:Ok... I am an avid weave/wig consumer. Since I was a young girl, I have always wanted to look different, and achieve styles my hair would not tolerate. So my question is... what difference does it make if it looks nice? If it isn't damaging your natural hair and makes you feel confident when you enter a room, who cares if your rock hair from your scalp, or hair that's sewn to a net? Not once would I call a person who decides to wear hair pieces lazy, because weave/wigs require work also, and to be called an imitator... :smh: well that is a slap in the face. Who are we trying to imitate.

Caucasian women have been wearing extensions for years!

Now, in no way am I trying to bash you for your comment, but most of the men I know can not tell the difference. Quality weave/wigs are not detectable. I think that’s wear a lot of women go wrong. So to those who have thought about it, but aren't sold... do your research, find a stylist who has mastered the art of human and artificial hair and you can't go wrong.

I rock micro's and when I am taking a break from them I wear a curly fro...I am all about whatever I like I am gonna wear it or do it. I tend to go for more natural looks, and I am seriously thinking about loc's. This is a pic I took a few minutes ago.
Ya'll know I dont trip about my face being shown...

I knew this was gonna happen...1st Femme...I luv u, you know that right? When I expressed my feelings about fake hair, I was not talking about you and your condition, which I have heard you make mention of before. Of course I have exceptions to my preference and I have seen enuff of you to say, I would take you w/o hair, because your spirit and intelligence and natural looks are just so beautiful to me.

Second, and I know I am gonna catch hell for this, but follow me...You have white and Spanish women that have longer hair, more to work with, and they do not complain. I see the Dominican women in the hair shops on a reg, getting their hair done. Black Hispanics and White Hispanics. Now, I do agree that it is easier for them, 'cause all they have to do is pull it back and keep it moving. But it is their's. Now, to address the other sister, if we are a couple and going out for the evening and you wanted to put on a terrific outfit and you wanted your hair in a certain style and you need extentions, or whatever, I would not protest. And suppose after that, you wanted to keep your hair in that style for a while, I would not protest. I wouldn't care for it, but I was taught the hard way, choose your battles. You would know what I like and what I do not like. It's up to you.

But here is something to consider: If your man is telling you that you do not need wigs, weaves or hair pieces to look beautiful to him, where's the problem?

Absolutely stunning!!!!

Onyx, you are a beautiful creation of God. See, I do not have a problem with your hair at all!
Tasteful and classy.

Now imagine Oynx with a wig or weave of straight hair...that would blow it for me...I would rather see her with a short hair style, then a long wig.

Thank you Oynx for sharing your light.
