What's happening is people are spending their money stupidly and then screaming "poverty"...no they're not "poor" they just have poor spending habits...when I was working in NYC I wasn't in the middle class range maybe I would've been considered extremely lower middle class lol but I managed to live comfortably...and so did many others who earned the same salary...

My cousin just moved out of her low income apartment the other day. She says if she wanted to move there now, she makes too much, but when she came, she made enough.

30K middle class means you are living in a poor city, lack city resources, subject to mass layoffs etc.
If not you are lower class.


70K middle class means you are living in a city with a high cost of living, most likely rent because real estate is high, work more hrs than the average.


I would say middle is more 50K-70K.

I wouldn't even count teachers, cops, firemen as middle class anymore (they used to be).

well depends here in the tri state area there are some Law Enforcement agencies where cops are pulling in average over 100k a yr notable Nassau and Sufflok county cops. NYC Firemen pulling in damn near 90k base.

Long Island teachers pulling 85k after 5 yrs, so again middle class is defined on your geographic location in the U.S

Teachers in NYC start off at $43,000 if they meet the basic requirements...they top off at $84,000 if they meet just the basic requirements...those who meet the full criteria (BA, MA and 30 extra credits which is not unrealistic) start off at $55,000 and top off at $95,000...
