MILWAUKEE (AP)—Former NBA star Latrell Sprewell’s home is up for foreclosure and his yacht sold at auction to help pay off the $1.3 million he owes on the boat, according to court filings.

Sprewell, who once turned down a three-year,$21 million contract extension saying, “I’ve got my family to feed,” has apparently fallen on tough times.

RBS Citizens NA, or Citizens Bank, filed a foreclosure suit last week in Milwaukee County for the $405,000 home Sprewell bought in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills in 1994.

In court documents, the bank said Sprewell owed $295,138 in outstanding payments plus interest.

Sprewell failed to make his mortgage payments of $2,593 per month from September 2007 to January 2008, the documents said.

The Associated Press tried to reach Sprewell for comment Monday but a telephone number in his name was disconnected. A message to one of his attorneys, Robert A. Gist of Atlanta, and an agency in New York were not immediately returned.

The 37-year-old Sprewell played 13 seasons in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves, the New York Knicks and the Golden State Warriors. The Milwaukee native was a four-time All-Star, but perhaps best known for choking coach P.J. Carlesimo during a Warriors practice in 1997.

He hasn’t played professional basketball since turning down the $21 million extension from the Timberwolves during the 2004-05 season. He was making $14.6 million at the time.

Last month, Sprewell’s 70-foot yacht, named “Milwaukee’s Best,” was sold at auction for $856,000 to a man from Milwaukee.

It was originally worth about $1.5 million. The bank holding that mortgage, New York-based North Fork Bank, asked that it be seized to pay off $1.3 million in debt.

Sprewell’s firm, LSF Marine Holdings, hadn’t made its $10,322 monthly payments on time or maintained the necessary insurance on the boat, the bank said. Sprewell bought the yacht built by the Italian firm Azimut-Benetti in 2003, according to court records.

A federal marshal seized the boat last summer in Manitowoc, about 80 miles north of Milwaukee, where it was in storage.

The sale price means the bank is still owed about $500,000, and it said in court filings it plans to go after the rest.

Last week, prosecutors in New York said they’d drop their case against Sprewell, who was accused of assaulting his girlfriend in front of their children. Prosecutors in Westchester County said the charges will be dismissed in a year if Sprewell stays out of trouble.

Serves him right. He's earned the current financial morass he's in now, cause he's a supreme ass of the highest caliber.

I nearly jumped out my seat when he turned down $21MM?!
What the fuck was he smoking that day?!

Fucking Bill Gates/Warren Buffett wouldn't even walk away from $21MM over three years.

Some niggas man ... some niggas :smh:

I guess there could be more to the story to come, but if it's true I can't feel sorry for anybody that was rich and goes broke.

His house is only worth $405K?

Only $405K left on the mortgage. I'm sure if they foreclose they'll get much more for it. Banks LOVE that shit. When you pay off most of your mortgage, but can still come in and take the whole house.

It's like getting paid 2x for them.

This isnt an uncommon thing actually. I used to with an NBA agent and we are all gonna see a lot more of this in coming years. There is a reason Gary Payton was still playing... his ass was close to broke. They think the money is gonna come forever and when you're clearing a mil/month after taxes like some of these guys, they just lose their damn minds. Not to mention Black athletes in particular feel the need to take care of everyone they came up with which puts a serious strain on the income once the checks dry up.

Prediction: Allen Iverson will live under a freeway overpass in 10 years

And thats gar-un-teed money. Not like the NFL where they can cut yo ass. Once you sign its yours. The only thing dumber was the player for the magic I believe that had a player option for like a million dollars and his ass neglicted to call and pick it up.

you used to WHAT with an nba agent? and what gives you the inkling to make that prediction about AI?

I agree the NIGGA bought a house that was UNDER $500,OOO in the 90's and it STILL wasn't paid off!?! What is the problem with these NIGGAS!?!:smh::smh::smh:

I used to want to be an agent, and via some family connections I was able to work for Bill Duffy (nash, carmelo, oden, yao). Agents speak amongst themselves about the financial ignorance of the players, and how you cant tell them anything. He used to rep. J.Kidd and first thing Kidd did was buy a home in Cali for 1.3 mil for his parents that they never even moved to. Ended up selling it for a loss. Duffy tries his best to set these guys up for life, but most agents just get their 4%contract/20% endorsement cut and move on. You can be an agent your whole life, athletes have about 10-15yrs. He used to rep. Payton too, thats how I know he had to sell 7 cars just to get by during the lockout in the 90's. Believe it or not, alot of NBA players live paycheck to paycheck. As for my prediction with AI, of course its an exaggeration, but not by much. like I said in my earlier post, he's taking care of too many damn people and his momma aint helping the situation.
Example... years ago his moms benz got a flat on the way to his game... she calls AAA and has them take her to the Benz dealership and buys another SClass on the spot. Honest to God.

That I can believe.:smh:

In the past year every article I've read about Latrell, and I mean EVERY article had this line in it.... Sprewell, who once turned down a three-year,$21 million contract extension saying, “I’ve got my family to feed,”

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I thought Iverson had a lifetime contract with Reebok and was getting some of that Vitamin Water money? If he goes broke with that type of money coming in, then he is a retard.

The points you are making sound like some real talk.

Question tho. What about the pension?

Actually it's pretty smart. The interest that you are paying on the mortgage offsets the state property taxes that you pay on the land. That's why most celebrities don't buy houses outright.

Another expense you dont hear about nearly as often as you could is child support/payoffs... that shit happens all the damn time. Sometimes its easier to cut a check for 250K than ruin your endorsements and the like. Shawn Kemp aint the only mofo out there with child support issues

Don't worry guys, he's found a place to crash during these rough times. He's gonna be roommates with Harold Miner & Yinka Dare. :D

They are only entitled to the balance of the loan that you owe them plus the cost of foreclosure. The HAVE to give you back the excess or else it will be pay day for you if you sue them.

Why would you want to pay an exorbitant amount of interest to save money on your advalorem taxes? The tax payment itself is tax deductible and only up to 100k of interest is tax deductible.

If Sprewell would have signed with the Wolves it only means he would have waited another 4 or 5 more years before going broke. It makes no sense for a ninja to have a long career in the NBA only to be broke after his career is over. Spree fucked off all that money and another 23 million was gonna be fucked off if the held on. What a dumb ass :smh:

Dlateshow

THE PROBLEM IS THESE DUMB NIGGAS WANT TO BUY MAYBACH AND 300,000 NECKLACES AND SHIT. MOST OF THESE NIGGAS FORGET WHERE THEY CAME FROM. SHIT, LET ME HOLD ON TO A MIL AND i AM GOING TO TRY AND FLIP AT LEAST HALF OF THAT SHIT. These niggas will learn it's not all about showboating and having 10 baby mommas taking you court...Damn these niggas :smh:

WTF? It seemed like everybody and they momma had those damn spinners. How the fuck did he go broke? I hate hearing shit like this. :smh:
