VoIP - Voice Over Internet Protocol

I been down with Vonage for over a year. Pluses unlimited calling all of US, VI and PR plus some places in Europe. Minuses if the computer is down or you have an extended power outage you;re fucked

With Vonage it is best to have your High Speed line from the Cable company

If your cable goes down for any reason, Fire , Flood, Wind , Acts of God , etc
No Phone

But then you always have your Cell Phone for that

I have had Vonage at home for about 3 years
No Real Problems

Best part, The Bill
No Matter how long you are on the Phone the price is always the same.

Vonage for over 4 years and counting. Their customer service (India) is crap. We had some rocky moments early the first year. But it's been smooth sailing since then. No outtages, all the features you would want in a phone...plus, it's inexpensive, no extra ld charges. We plugged our box into the wall line, now the entire house has connection. Lovin it...as long as there are no problems.

Cosign. I've had it at home for 4 years and at my business for 1. As long as Comcast is good my phone line is perfect.

Vonage for going on 4 years no problems at all. As long as cable/power is on you have a phone. If you have a UPC or battery backup you can still have a phone if the power is out and the cable is still working. Bottom line you can't beat the price, even better than Time warner digital phone. Vonage is always having specials keep an eye out online. Someone mentioned Magic Jack, it requires a computer, etc. Vonage is just a little black box, aka gizmo, an ethernet connection and you are in business. i take my gizmo with me when I travel for calls. You can forward your vonage # to other phones have a simul ring, etc.

only problem with public VOIP IE Vonage and others is that they lack QoS. In short, because they use public internet, there is no guarantee of quality of service. The company I am at now is currently running an Eastern US voip system powered by more than 2000 miles of fiber with three DS3's each capable of symetrical 40mbps up/down speeds. Our system still isn't flawless but it is the first step in eliminating hard switches and allowing our customer's access to more features than other traditional phone companies.

In short, if you get it, understand that it's relatively new technology and have patience if things are a little problematic at first. Just my two cents.

VOIP is not reliable like regular phones or cell phones.

Worse than cell phones? You know not of what you speak.

I've been using Vonage for almost 2 years and still as happy as the day I got it. Perfect? No. But by miles better than a cell phone dude.

Had Vonage for about 5years, maybe more, its been a while. I have had NO problems. I love it and will have it for a long time.
There have been times when the cable or power went out, but I have a cell phone. When my Vonage connection is cut, it automatically sends all calls to my cell phone.
My phone bills went from $90/month to $29/month. I like it so much, I won't switch to the one offered by my cable operator.

Co-sign that. They also give you this second number that you can give to a parent or somebody not living in your state. They can call you for unlimited. I think it's 5 bucks more a month. It's great not having to sweat a long distance call.

dawg who is that and where is the set?:yes::dance::yes::eek::eek:

I've been using packet8 for 3 years, and I have a virtual number that my fam from back home call that rings to the house. All for under $30.

i have a service through my cable company, id suggest any one who gets this to run a back up power supply or something of the sort, other than, no real issues

It's as reliable as your internet service. I've had earthlink (for phone not internet) for about 3 years and no real problem. Can't see going back to POTS for any reason.

If you have an alarm at your crib you want to make sure it supports VOIP tho. ADT tried to rip me off for going to VOIP and I changed to Brinks but short of that it's been all good.

Has anyone heard of Lightyear Alliance (LYA)??? Reason why I'm asking is because LYA is taking over Vonage so it might be a good stock option PLUS providing inexpensive services for Home Phones, Internet, VoIP Calling Cards, Home Security Services, Cell Phones, Satellite Services, etc.

See, I had a Representative offer me all this and I'm thinkng about going with it, but I have to run it by the BGOL fam first! Ya'll mutha fuckas know everything...esp. Vegas Guy. Hit me up!!! Would you do it??? This sems to be the new way to go with communcations in 2008. Get it straight in 2008!!!

One Luv!

I have had heard good things about Skype, but I have had Vonage for 3 plus years also. No real problems except for having to reset the modem sometimes when the power gets tripped. Speed upgrades to the cable internet did improve the service. But here are several things to look at too:

#1 Some have been predicting that Vonage will go bankrupt in 2008 due to losing those lawsuits a few months ago and their increasing cancellation rates.

http://blogs.computerworld.com/vonage_wont_make_it_past_2008

But Vonage has hung in there over the past couple of months and they even introduced some new technology a few days ago in Vegas:

#2 Clark Howard has been talking about the cable companies which have the ability to disrupt VOIP service or diminish the quality of VOIP service "legally," thanks to loopholes in the current laws.....in order to discourage current VOIP customers. Their goal is to get you to give up your current service which is provided by a smaller independent company and switch over to VOIP provided by one of the larger cable companies.

Some also think that many of these small VOIP players will be gobbled up by bigger fish in the form of mergers with major phone or cable companies sometime in the future. Thus some could go back to paying $150 a month for a non-mobile landline. :D

Well since most of you are down with VoIP, check this company out at www.GodzillasMoney.com. I make up to 10% of each monthly VoIP or regular phone bill that I obtain service for. That includes residential and business. This is REAL residual based on products we already use everyday. I don't convince people to try new vitamins, Noni Juice, Legal Services, Travel, etc. All I do is save them money by switching over their phone services to the company I am a Representative with and I get the commission. It's a wrap. We're looking for Reps and we GUARENTEE atleast $2000 income. Holla back if you want more info. Email me at VALightyear@aol.com.
