Xavier Lee to leave Florida State

In my opinion homeboy shoulda transfered a while ago. He has more talent than that cracka Weatherford. I dont think he should enter the draft tho

Xavier Lee's turbulent career at Florida State is over after the Seminoles asked him to move from quarterback to tight end, his father told the Orlando Sentinel.

Lee's father, Willie, said Xavier, a redshirt junior, was told by Florida State coaches he no longer would be playing quarterback, and that offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher had asked him to play tight end instead.

Lee, who was a much-heralded recruit out of high school but started only six games for the Seminoles, is not enrolled in spring classes at Florida State, and a Seminoles coach confirmed to the Tallahassee Democrat that Lee was no longer a part of the football program.

According to Willie Lee, Xavier likely will prepare for an anticipated invitation to the NFL scouting combine, and will not transfer to another school.

"Can't blame him, man," Willie Lee said of his son's decision to leave school, according to the Sentinel. "What else is he going to do -- sit around there and watch other kids go ahead of him?"

Lee's time at Florida State had been rocky, at best. This season, he began as the backup to Drew Weatherford, but came off the bench and engineered a 21-14 victory against Alabama. He started the next three games, but was benched again Oct. 20 after throwing two interceptions and fumbling twice in Florida State's loss to Miami.

After that, he was suspended for two games for violating the team's class attendance rules. He also never took the field for Florida State again. He had told reporters he would be eligible to play in the Music City Bowl, but when the Seminoles traveled to Nashville for the game, Lee was not with them.

Lee's mother, Gloria, told the Sentinel on Sunday that she has been "heartbroken" by her son's turbulent FSU career. "As a single parent, I'm pretty much upset, heartbroken, because of the situation they put him in and how they treated him over the years," Gloria Lee said.

I see that some of you're blaming the coaches but at the end of the day X didn't do what was needed to become the starting quarterback.

• He didn't keep up with his grades (that is why he was suspended for two games at the end of the year)
  
• He didn't practice hard (Bobby Bowden is big on practice)
  
• He even admitted that he didn't study the play book hard
  
• Towards the beginning of his FSU career him and the coaches got into disputes because he didn't attend some of the film sessions.

What this all comes back to is personal responsibility. Now anyone in here can tell just from watching a quarter of football that Drew Weatherford is trash, but at the end of the day he did what he needed to do in order to maintain the job.

X Lee NEVER was able to take the job from him because he was to inconsistent on the football (he would play like an all american one game and a 5 string QB the next) field and he didn't do what was necessary off the field.



In my personal opinion I think X Lee career turned out the way it did because he was able to do everything so effortlessly in high school. He didn't have to work hard for his accolades, but while in college that wasn't the case and he was never able to adjust.

He's stupid for trying to go to the NFL. All of these things are going to be used against him leading up to the draft and if he thinks a team is going to draft as a QB he's out of his damn mind. So he might as well stayed at FSU and learned a new position or transferred somewhere else to play QB. And considering that he's admitted to not studying the playbook, etc. I doubt that the NFL will draft him at all figuring that he lacks the work ethic to learn a new position. In the words of Biggie "Don't be mad UPS is hiring."

Confidence was another thing with him as well, he was all world when he had the right amount of confidence. But as soon as he started to miss some passes or make a mistake he would slowly begin to topple and then crumble.


Not a good trait for any quarterback to have.

First off, EJ doesn't have X work ethic. By the time EJ starts getting serious consideration for playing time after his redshirt Christian Ponder will be a Junior. So he will likely be sitting on the bench regardless, especially if Christian Ponder is performing well. He looked promising during his play in the Virginia Tech game . I actually became excited about FSU future watching Ponder play.

Wouldn't it have made more sense for Lee to transfer to another school than go to the NFL. This is a deep qb class and he may not get drafted. EX-FSU QB Adrian McPherson got drafted in the 5th rd. by the Saints a few years ago,but that's only because he had a season(or 2?) in the Arena League where he lit muthafuckas up. McPherson is now out of the NFL and back in the AFL. We'll see how Lee does.

FSU does have "decent" running backs, the oline is just plain atrocious at this point.


I'm excited about Parkers potential but Carr is just to soft and for someone who is 6'6 he doesn't get the ball at its highest point. He still waits for the ball to come to him and doesn't take the initiative to get the ball like it's his alone. I'm still waiting for him to become a complete receiver.

Like I said in an earlier post, Lee figured his raw talent would work at the college level. WRONG !! Knowledge is power, and thats one thing Lee lacks

FSU has always had discipline problems since hes been there, and yet and still most of his problem children still get a fair shake. I dont know what went on down there, but I do know what Ive heard about Bowden and Ben Hill Griffin at UF and Spurrior adhering to it. I know Im not the only one to hear such rumors either. Maybe its because of the reasons you named, but I never got the feeling that Lee was givin a REAL chance. Based on field performance Lee had more potential to be great that Weatherford, but Weatherford could suck the game up and he never had to worry about being benched, if Lee went three and out he knew what it was. I dont put shit past anyone, let alone a good ole boy from the deep south, who grew up when blacks were inferior. Maybe I am reaching, but the absence of evidence isnt the evidence of absence.

Yeah Big BLUe beat our ass i will admit that but this year wasn't our year anyways. The Gators starting 9 new starters on defense this year mostly all freshman/sophomores. All imma say is the FUture is Bright if you know anything about Recruiting we have upcoming athletes all over the roster.

I can see where you're going with this but this all goes back to practice

Like I said earlier in the thread, Bobby Bowden holds important significance on how you perform during practice. X Lee throughout most of his entire career has not put forth much effort during practice and admitted in candid interviews that when he started performing better in practice he started getting serious looks for playing time.


No amount of spectacular game day performances mounted by X Lee could save him in the end, because he kept reverting back to bad technique and choices during games REPEATEDLY. And do you know where these bad tendencies are refined and improved upon?

Couple things Tebow will not run it has much this year, why?

Emmanuel Moody Pac-Ten freshman of the year has transferred to UF and is most likely starting this year. Tebow is a gym rat he's not like LEE,Tebow will progress has a passer next year even more i remember people didn't even think he could throw but next year tebow will be looking to spread the ball around a bit more. Harvin will get is 10-15 touches but the other players will get involved more and it won't be a Harvin and Tebow show only. UGA did beat us and they will be a very good team next year but TEBOW was not healthy for that game.
