I had previously stated that I was a lung tao or female soldier. Look back in the 70s and 80s NYC was a very different place and the whole climate was very different. There was no internet, no cell phones, video games were brand new and were played in the arcade more than at home. City kids were ALL into EVERYTHING. From b-boy b-girling to martial arts to graf to all different kinds of arts to ANY and EVERYTHING. I was not special nor unique. Everyone was like that. Nobody did just one thing. Everyone did a lot of things and the social climate was to strive for excellence in all that you did. Things were not so commercialized then. If you wanted to study martial arts you had to go seek it out, yes, DEEP IN CHINATOWN. Whatever you wanted to get into you had to go seek it out. There were no ads for it or anything like that. Things are very different now, I can understand how you youngsters and/or middle amerikkkans cannot comprehend and with that I am done.
that training in Chinese Opera gave us Bruce Lee (his father got his start in Chinese Opera at Peking Opera School), Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. Trust me... their training is INTENSE and they DO fight full contact too.
Question for anybody who lives in New York. When's the last time you seen anyone in Chinatown 6 ft. or over? Or for that matter, 5 feet or over?

Martial arts came into Chinese Opera b/c of the outting of the Shaolin monks during (I forget his name) an emperor's reign. Shaolin was outlawed but the monks taught it to some chinese opera folks and they incorporated it into their art so that Shaolin would live on. The Shaolin monks were all but extinct at this time, and the original temple was destroyed.
If you think everyone in the school was chinese you even dumber than you seem.

i have been in and out of this country for a large portion of my life. This particular time since June and 6 months is WAY too much for me. I can usually deal with 2 and not much more than that. I didn't hate it so much before but I do now. It used to be fun before but that was a long time ago

And this was in our school so i may have been different than if i went to one outside of school. i predicted that there would be an 'investigation' and subsequent clowning due to the chinese opera technique. i took a morning nap, woke up, revisited this thread, and...
now, we must learn about the 'lung tao' technique.
