Best Female Vocalist of All-Time

There is no "one" ... you really have to divide it into genres:

R&B/Soul - Aretha Franklin / Patti Labelle
Gospel - Martha Walsh
Jazz - Ella Fitzgerald / Rachelle Ferrell
Pop - Mariah Carey / Minnie Riperton
Disco / Dance - Chaka Khan / Evelyn King
Adult Contemporary - Anita Baker / Phylis Hymen
Rock - Tina Turner

PERFECT!!!

Aretha and mahalia jackson are the best ive ever heard

She did that with minimal effort...

Billie Holiday, hands down. Just listen to "Strange Fruit." There's nothing but soul in that song!

did her and her husband cover Minnie and Peabo's Here We Go

No she did a remake off of Minnie's "Adventures in Paradise" album and I can't think of the... Oh, Inside my Love!!! That's it. Check that song out!

I think a lot of people confuse GREATEST of all-time with just their personal favorite. It's 2 totally different things. Some of the names that have been brought up in this thread....it's just unexplainable. IMO...there are really only 3 women are truly worth discussing for greatest ever.....

I know she did that song, I dont like nobody to sing that song but Minnie, only Minnie's voice could make that "go"...but somebody covered Here we go just cant think of them.

That I don't know, I really got turned off to her after her 2nd album, I thought she took a step back to me.

And as a side note, what the hell is the facination with Mariah Carey? She has a good voice but, for bamas to be putting her in an all time greats cat. over the likes of Chaka, Rachelle, Minnie, Gladys, Diane Reeves, ect. :dunno:

I know she's biracial but, is her father a "black" american?

You've lost your mind.

(Carey inherited her operatic voice from her mother. Like her or not, no one of sound mind over the last 20 years has ever denied her unusual range. It's her claim to fame, besides her arguable #1 all-time status, female success-wise. I've never seen or heard Chante Moore's "range" mentioned once ... anywhere.)

one thing that i've never liked about mariah is that she has no feeling within her songs.
1. rachelle ferelle
2. ella fitzgerald
3. whitney houston/aretha franklin

other dark horses.

Alyson Williams, Miki Howard & Vesta.

I'm shocked that Dionne isn't even mentioned in the thread.:smh:
