Top ten terrible tech products

Windows Vista
Any operating system that provokes a campaign for its predecessor's reintroduction deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that quietly has a downgrade-to- previous-edition option introduced for PC makers deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that takes six years of development but is instantly hated by hordes of PC professionals and enthusiasts deserves to be classed as terrible technology.
Windows Vista conforms to all of the above. Its incompatibility with hardware, its obsessive requirement of human interaction to clear security dialogue box warnings and its abusive use of hated DRM, not to mention its general pointlessness as an upgrade, are just some examples of why this expensive operating system earns the final place in our terrible tech list.

When Vista first came out it sucked big time. But after the updates starting rolling out things got a lot better. I still have XP and Vista Dual boot on my PC though. :lol:You never know.

Whats wrong with it? People just hate change. I have no problems at all with Vista. Fucking Mac loving faggots.

I'm not the biggest MS fan, but I must admit that I was shocked when I finally installed Vista Ultimate. It's great to me. I really don't understand all the crap that people talk about it. There are several new features that I use on the regular. So far it hasn't had the bloating issues that XP had, and I have had absolutely no driver problems. As a matter of fact, I didn't even have to use my Printer install CD's like I did withXP. It recognized it immediately. I like it.

I've had no issues with Vista. I'd actually say it's been one of the more stable releases of a MS OS I've used. I even used the sidebar it's tools. I think most of the nay sayers are people who bough a lot of really high end equipment pre-vista, and expected those things to work on the New OS. I will admit that I haven't used any of the cheaper versions of Vista, I've been using Ultimate. That could be the issue.

correct...

vista is the best os yet... they still are using the same shitty kernal from win xp but over all.. this is a great os...

I think that most people got so used to win xp that when vista came out... people got scared...

vista is more secure than xp.. the only gripe i got is... DRM.. but all of the hardware issues that it has.. is not from Vista its from the fuckin hardware MGF's that were to cheap to fucking write drivers/software for vista... u cant blame microsoft for that...

I would aggree that Win ME was the shittest os out... ever but vista is the best...

naw, its not that people hate change, its the fact that when a company makes you wait 6 years for a change and its actually worst then what you already have, thats the problem. Ive have plenty of problems with vista. my task bar would freeze all the time, so i would have to restart explorer. I just fixed my server connection error problem that i had for months. A LOT of my software that ran percectly on XP doesnt run on vista. And the software that doesnt run, i have to set it up so that it runs good on vista. Not to mention the annoying prompts that pop up everytime you want to run something. Thats whats wrong with vista. I'm soon to go back to XP

I think a lot of it is just negative hype, designed to destroy Microsoft's OS market share. Im a Mac user, but I did use Vista and I thought it was a really good OS... I didn't experience any problems with it.

Those who are having problems must be trying to run Vista on old ass outdated hardware...

Here's my question... if incompatibility is a problem, and having to add a few extra click and prompts are a problem, what OS Can C-net endorse?? I thin this article was probably published as an attempt to make them seem less PC friendly, and be more ad money form Apple. Let's face it there is no other option but windows for the typical home user. Linux has the same compatibility issues as windows. only the better grade products are supported by Linux. you can't go buy the $249 notebook at best buy and load Linux. Sure Apple's PC only crash about 1/10 of the time as Windows PCs but when they do crash, they crash hard, and expensively. note Apples use Intel processors, but very expensive non standardized Main Boards. Microsoft has a superior product. Also it's been shown that the faster people adopt the new OS the faster the bugs are worked out.

FYI you can change how often you are prompted and what you are prompted for in Vista. If you so choose you can even disable them.

screen freezing might be a bug which every OS has (even Mac OS). It can be fixed in subsequent releases.

If your software wont run, its not a problem of the OS, its the problem of the manufacturer that makes the software. It may not be compatible with Vista.

The annoying prompts, turn em off.

I agree.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Apple fan (Mac OS X), but its new OS had and continues to have a lot of problems also. I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard), and I was having all kinds of issues. Within weeks Apple had to release bug fixes because there were/are so many complaints... and the fixes they released didnt solve all the problems.

I love my Mac, but that shit is buggy also.. give them time and they will fix it. It comes with the territory of releasing new software...

Another good feature in Vista. ReadyBoost I got a 2GB USB flash drive hooked up using this feature.

It looks to me that the users of vista.. that are complaining.. have not really taken the time out to figure out how to use it... there are a few basic complaints about vista.. that are eaily fixed..

1. the prompts.. cut the shit off if u dont want it..

2. software compatiblity... fuckin blame the software makers.. they knew vista was coming out for 6 years.. and still aint release updates for there softwares... and u blame microsoft...

3. hardware... everyone known that vista was coming out.. and the hardware mfg and write drivers for the shit.. but everyone wants to blame.. microsoft...

4. crashes... i have yet to have a full chrash from vista.. the good thing about vista is that when a explorer crashes.. it closes out and fixes itself... now if you have issues with full crashing.. then the issue is prob with the daym non- compatible software you installed on the pc...

5. why whould users install vista on a old ass pc.. and expect that shit to work... thats what plenty of people did... and thats why they hate it...

people are killing me with this shit about vista.. most of the issues are with the fuckin users and not with the os... I really think this is a ploy for apple to gain market share.. and i cant respect that shit...

I'm calling bullshit on this one. vista isn't one of the worst. I got xp and vista. ME was the worst. Don't know how anything can be terrible when fucking Windows ME came out:smh: I prefer Vista over XP

Mine works perfectly fine... And I havent heard any complaints from anyone I know. I cant take this article seriously.

bruh, you'd be much better off running a 64-bit version of Vista and adding at least 4 GB f RAM.. it will be faster than ANY ready boost or paging file (virtual mem).

The average computer user is too lazy or too intimidated to try and figure new things out when technology is concerned. With that said I ain't mad at em cause Vista has generated lots of side income for me.:yes:

True , but then none of the programs i use will work with the 64 bit version.

It is already clear in my previous posts how I feel about this ... Linux w/ VMware running XP is a FAR superior combo.

The fundamental problem is that they are NOT writing cleaner/leaner code. They are relying on better hardware technology to accommodate programming shortcomings.

M$ fundamentally is a MARKETING company that is VERY savvy at stealing/including good technologies into their OS to crush the competition. (Ask IBM about this -- they write good code and can't market it for shyt; it is their marketing shortcomings in the DOS days that CREATED M$).

No hate; but I'd rather get stable code that does not require hardware upgrades every year.

FYI: win2000 Professional is arguably the best, most stable OS they have EVER developed.

Also, remember that Windoze had its roots as a DOS application; Unix/Linux was designed from the ground up as a TRUE multitasking, networked OS.

End of story

Peace.

Don't Give Up on Vista

I wouldn't say Vista's the worst, but XP works just fine for me. I haven't looked at the list, but Windows ME should be on there. I remember breaking a keyboard off of that shitty OS.

Vista was annoying when it was first released and I think it was mostly driver issues. XP was almost the same when it was released with driver issues and shit that won't run on it.
A lot of people went clamoring for Windows 98 again. Same shit happened when we left Windows 95 headed to Windows 98. People have short memories about shit like this including me.

We expected it to install and errthing would be better than ever. Even Leopard is having some pain but most techy types understand that it's expected to.

CNET got some bitchy women heading the departments lately hence the whining ass men writing like they got hot flashes.

Anyway, Vista works just fine. I have it dual booted with XP but when I run short or space, XP is gone.

True Microsoft does major marketing of it's products. It's a product people want or at least think they want it. It works and almost anybody can use it. Windows "roots" has no bearing on it's current kernel though. Windows 95 needed it, Windows 98 did not. What IBM failed to do was understand that average people didn't give a shit about learning cryptic instructions when a simple mouse click could accomplish the same tasks.

Microsoft purchased DOS from IBM and those geeks put together shit and created an entire worldwide industry from it. Say what you want about what is or is not better but if not for Microsoft, a whole lot of people would never own a computer or have a job.

Apple figured it out and what product they've put out is nothing short of amazing. OSX Leopard.

I'm still waiting for Linux to quit jerking around and produce a product worth using. They got about 250+ different flavors of Linux now most resemble little apps than operating systems. They are getting there but not yet.

I have both Vista Ultimate and the cheap basic one in my daughters laptop, and I can tell you that there is a big difference between the two.
To me the basic is a down grade from XP, mainly because most who run it has a system designed to run XP, being a system hog, Vista can actually run slower.
Now on my main computer where I run the Ultimate on, I have more than enough resources to run it and it runs much better than, XP.
If you are a gamer getting Ultimate Vista is a no brainer, direct X10 games look sweet as candy!
For day to day operations, I don't see much of a difference between Vista and XP but for the PC power hitters, Vista is the way to go!

The only good thing about Vista was that now you can get a cheap computer with at least a gig of ram...so you can put Linux or XP on it

Vista is like ME, hopefully they'll get it right next time.

I hate that shit just on Windows Media Player alone, now I got some bullshit with ViiV software that shuts down Windows explorer because there's an mpgep on my desktop. I cant erase the mpeg because Windows explorer always shuts down before that shit is erased. WTF

I think vista is a very good operating system
the security is great
you don't even need additional anitvirus..
the fact that you can easily take programs out the start up
or stop running programs is great...

had it since feb 2007 no major problems...

before any program runs you get a prompt asking if you want it done
solid operating system

the problme maybe that vista is huge and you need the hardware
I got a core 2 duo processor and 2 gigs of memory so I have no problems...
