SPORTS SUPPLEMENTS - what to take, what not to, and why

I was reading the board, and I wanted to share some very important information with the board. I am licensed by the NSCA ( National Sports & Conditioning Association) as a strength and condtioning coach. Everything that I have ever written is real deal shit, no gimmicks, no games. I've worked with some top level nutritionist. I know guys that work with NFL, NBA, professinal athletes. Let me be the first to say this, THERE IS NO MAGIC PILL OR POWDER TO MAKE YOU STRONGER, LEANER, BIGGER, OR ANY OF THE SORT. A sports supplement is something that is used in "addition" to a good excersise program, and a reasonable diet. Now please believe, you get what you pay for, when it comes to sports supplements. I hear all kinds of dumb shit, CREATINE MADE ME SLOW, IT MADE ME BIG, IT MADE ME CRAMP, ALL BULLSHIT. Creatine is the #1 supplement on the market right now. There may be a number of reasons why someone had a problem with creatine usage, but when creatine is used CORRECTLY !, it will make you stronger, FASTER, and leaner. Here's what you need in ya cabinet :

1. a multi-vitamin for men

78968.jpg
this is the best shit on the market. $100 a box for 30 days worth. You get what you pay for !!!!!!

2. Protein Powder

pGNC1-2331843dt.jpg
People argue me down, "too much fat in this", it made me big. EAT THE RIGHT SHIT, plus use the RIGHT protein powder, and you'll be lean. Musclemilk the best shit on the market. People gotta learn how to balance the shit out. Musclemilk is endorsed by the NCAA, nuff said !

3. Preworkout powder

pGNC1-2331853dt.jpg
You take one scoop, before you workout. It helps with endurance, strength, and pumps. It also heals your muscles. Yes, there is creatine in this supplement, BUT this is a "water soluble" pH balanced creatine, YOU GOTTA KNOW WHAT THE FUCK TO USE, AND HOW TO USE IT.

NOT USE :

FAT BURNERS - gimmicks and games, makes your blood pressure go up, and dick go limp, very dangerous if you use too much

TESTOSTERONE - there is no such thing. Steroids are the only real shit that works.

I'll answer more questions tomorrow, got some late night pussy to tend to !

NO BULLSHIT, I USED A SAMPLE OF ASPIRE-36, THAT SHIT WORKS DAMN GOOD ! MIGHT NEED TO GET SOME OF THAT !

Damn, I was gonna start a thread about this. I need something to give me energy before workouts. I used to take that Xenedrine w/ephedra shit--it worked like hell, but I thought I was having a fucking stroke. I'm trying to gain lean muscle and cut bodyfat--don't want to bulk up too much. What about these two:

1.
lipo6-nutrex.jpg

2.
bsn-no-explode.jpg

As far as I can tell, both get really good reviews.

:smh: Muscle Milk isn't the best product out, it just taste the best. Have you looked at the amount of calories and fat in it :hmm: Get mix with casein and whey, like Syntha 6

Animal Pack is the best Multi, and cost a lot less than that :smh:

No Xplode, stops working after a while and you have to cycle on and off :smh: NO products are overated.

And a fat burner like Redline Xtreme or Man Scorch can do the same that Fast Twitch does when it comes to energy for a workout

the original lipo 6 was the shit, worked just like ephedra products

now...

that shit is trash, one of the reasons it was called lipo 6 was cause it had 6 ingredients, now it has 5, i forget what was removed but some other ingredients were switched and percentages were changed.. there are no more good fat burners anymore

your best bet would be an ephadrine like vasopro, caffeine pills and aspirin (ECA STACK)

if your having eating problems with portions and stuff, then some work well for curbing your hunger, hoodia products are good for that

2.
bsn-no-explode.jpg

no explode is crazy, it works, but you have to take it according to instructions. meaning dont go one week on, then take a few days off etc.. this stuff works and will give you results but only if you use it constantly till the jar is empty, then take a few months off of it...

biggest problem some have experienced.. well.. lets just say its nick name is anal explode.. after taking it no more than 5 minutes later you run to the bathroom to take a shit.. happened to me the first time i took it, never happened again.. some claim to have it happen often.. you can look up the info on bodybuilding.com

but i stopped taking it for the same reason you shouldnt

i dont want to bulk up

if you need a slight energy boost before workouts but dont want to load up on supplents that get you bulky, go for some caffeine pills. 1 pill about 15-20 minutes pre workout should give you some boost

green tea extract might help with getting lean too, CLA has worked out real good, the lower the body fat percentage the better it works from what i have seen, mainly from seeing people go from 14% bfp to 8-10%

works well with below 16/17% but above 19% i have seen it do very little

the muscle milk bulks me up, and fast, thats why i stay away from it..

i like my size, i just seemed to have platued with my weight, i keep loosing fat and putting on muscle but the weight does not budge for shit...

In my opinion the original Lipo 6 still works just fine. I've tried the new version, but it gives me the shakes and makes my heart race even when I'm not doing anything.

No Xplode is an excellent creatine/nitric oxide product, it will give you crazy energy before your workouts, and I notice I can get at least 2 extra reps per exercise when I use it. Follow the directions closely (do NOT take it close to bedtime you will not sleep) and pair it with Cellmass (which you should take before bed) for the best result.

You don't really NEED extra creatine such as the products mentioned, but I find that it really does help with energy/recovery. It will make you retain extra water.

Glad you brought that up, that's another benefit of creatine

hey i personally thing that no2 and mega men vitamins is all you need i am trying to get mylicense as a trainer also so thats what keeps me going plus ginseng and for protein whey extreme mixed in grape juices 100 percent pure kind not the drink lol to much glucose aka sugar

First off, to the thread starter, you could be accredited G.O.D. association of fitness, if you endorse muscle milk as the best protein, you are sadly mistaken. It is the equivalent to eating a cheeseburger after a workout. Oh you'll gain weight. There are a ton of protein on the market that work, the key is to find the one right for you. If ANYONE says that one protein is the best for everyone, they are salesman or a fool.

Second, who here is willing to pay $1200 yearly ($100 a month) for vitamins?

Third, the only real way to loose fat is a deficit diet, period. A deficit diet is lowering the amount you intake in meals, be it caloric, carbs or fat. Some of those fat burners do work, but only with the diet. Without the diet you might as well take a tick tack.

NO-Xplode is great, but it must be cycled like everyone has said. What I have done is cycled it with other creatine/volumizers, like Green Magnitude. Another very good product.

Jagi, is this the good Lipo 6 or the bad Lipo 6? I think the new one is called Lipo 6X. This looks like a good deal.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/nutrex/lipo6.html

^^^Is this the one y'all were taking--the liqui-caps?
lipo6.jpg

120 Liqui-Caps
Was $49.99, now $27.49

just forget lipo 6.. it just isnt as good as it was.. for the bit of help it gives your cardio workout you can get it from any product... hot rox, redline etc all are pretty much the same now.. i also tried man scorch with man vaporize, nothing..

that was with 3-4 45 minute cardio a week and 3-4 lifting a week

keep an eye out for that one product, every once in a while something pops up on the market that really works, but for some reason, about 6 months in they always change up their formula and it just stops working the way it did and sells on its previous hype

thanks bookmarking and i'll check it out this weekend

For Preworkout I use ErgoLean AMP.GREAT with no jitters will lower sex drive though so I cycle it.Fuck Muscle Milk.I go with Optimum 100% whey.Great price for a bioavailable protein.Fuck NO Xplode.NO Shtgun (made by VPX) is NO Xplode x 2.Im surprised Fish Oil wasn't suggested.Go with Carlsons. It helps recovery and actually burns fat.I do Fish oil in the summer, autumn and fall and Cod Liver oil in winters.I train my ass off and without supplements i'd definitely be overtraining.
Im a firefighter and on my days off, my training is as follows:
Mornings Crossfit(www.crossfit.com) Evenings:Brazilian Juijitsu and MuiThai Kick boxing with conditioning.

I'm not gonna argue. I know what the pro's drink. Musclemilk is not designed to make you fat, it is not equal to eating a cheeseburger. When used correctly ( BEFORE A WORKOUT, AFTER A WORKOUT, OR BEFORE BED), it is the most beneficial protein on the market. It digest in your system for up to 8 hrs. If you mix it, in water, that's about 350 cals. I use a vitamin made by Malalueca. It's the top of the line. It has an AM and PM packet, in the correct USP (United States Pharmacopia) format. I like the FAST TWITCH because it works better than the NO-EXPLODE product. I'm only trying to help. I always suggest Musclemilk because of taste and content. It's high in BCAA's, and glutamine. Drinking two musclemilk a day is not going to hurt you, if you are eating the correct ratios of food. I can use Musclemilk to gain weight by mixing it in 2% milk, or I use water when I am maintaining weight, or dropping weight. Fat burners are dangerous. Word to the wise, stop fucking with alot of caffeine, you are slowly killing yourself, fucking with the rhythm of your heart. The product I use has 200mg of caffeine, that's the only time you should be using caffeine is during a workout, for a boost. I've read these fat burners, READ NIGGA, there are items in these fat burners that you have never heard of, the shit kills people. The bottomline is this, YOUR DIET is the missing link, I been preaching that since day one. NO GREESE, NO FAST FOOD, CARDIO, WEIGHTS, WATER, GOOD LIVING, THE WHOLE NINE. I suggest that all of you visit a nutritionalist, and find out how many calories you can have a day, per your weight. I eat over 3,000 cals a day, check me out :

7 am-3 egg omelet ( I use egg beaters), onions, bell peppers, tomatos, turkey ham, low fat cheese, two slices of wheat toast, two glasses of tropicana pure, am vitamin pack

9-9:30-snack on almonds, yogurt, apple slices

12-two pieces of grilled talipia, steamed veggies, 20 oz water

2 pm - 16oz of water and ice, frozen strawberries, banana, two scoops of musclemilk vanilla

3 pm - one scoop fast twitch, workout for 1hr 20 minutes

THIS IS CRITICAL
5 pm - 16 OZ low fat chocolate milk, 6 inch subway turkey & ham, apple , PM VITAMIN PACK

7 PM - two grilled turkey patties, sweet potato yams, wheat bread, water ( two glasses of lemonade crystal light)

9-9:30 IF I WANT A PROTEIN SHAKE, i'LL HAVE ONE, IF NOT, OREO'S AND SKIM MILK ( JUST NOT EVERY NIGHT :))

I'm eating right now, cashews, and crystal light. I don't diet, I have a life style. MAN, tomorrow i'm eating fried chicken, potatos, greens, cake, pie, goin to my momma's house. I cheat, but here's the key, you gotta eat right MORE, than you eat wrong !

This is a good fucking thread. Got alot of info. I do got a question though. I am the type of person who can control their weight, such as losing or gaining. I was at about 220lbs last winter and dropped to about 190lbs. My question is, are there any supplements out there that will add more muscle and keep my energy up, but also keep me feeling light? Reason I am asking is I started training in Boxing/MMA, and I figured if I could gain some muscle and still feel light, it would be alot smoother for me during work-out and training.

Use my supplement stack, WATCH how that shit works. I got my protein, my creatine, my caffeine, everything you need in one deal. If your money is tight, use GNC MEGA MEN SPORT PACKS. I always praise GNC, because their company will not carry a product unless it has been tested by their labs first. GNC is my place.

Not arguing with you either brother, but you keep beating this same statement in everyones head. "I work with pros", "I know what the pros use", "this is what pro athletes take". Guess what else pro athletes take, STEROIDS!! Like 80% of pro athletes in the top 5 sports use them. Where is that on your list of "what the pros use"!!!

Here's real talk from a real nigga, been at the bottom, food stamps, and roaches, sharing a bed as a child, with ya cousin that keeps pissin in it, knowing what it's like to see kids in new shit, and your coat is hand me down. Eating fuckin Kings Vitamins, and making powdered milk for dinner. Knowing this, and where some of these "pros" come from, and having dreamed the "American Dream" as a child, I don't like pros using steroids, but when you got 3 years left on your contract, you gotta make that last 10 million, your body gotta last, and ain't no REAL 9 to 5 waitin for you in the afterlife ( to the pros, being out of pro sports is the afterlife), I guess I understand why they do it, why they take steriods. It's like you're good enough, but not quite, so to ensure your place in greatness, you trade the later years for the right now. It's real. We switchin subjects right now, because you touched on some serious shit, real niggas, from real ghettos, don't wanna go back, ain't never looked back, and will fuckin die tryin, before they go back. Man fuck the hood, the hood was fucked up, and slummed out. I'm so fuckin glad to be away from that shit. Athletes take roids, because they can't see nothing but the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, black athletes normally have more to their story than whites, but there are some poor white trash white boys who'd tell you the same shit. Hope I didn't sound too crazy, but you really brought back the past just by asking a question about roids. I know a guy, in the NFL, cried like a baby when he told me he was addicted to roids. All he could talk about was his mother, and her luekemia, his wife and children, and how he had to play two more years to make good on getting his pention. He cried because he was in so much fuckin pain after games. I had some tears too. Man was gonna lose everything. He took roids, and he's still playin today. Plays for the ?????????? yeah half the league takes roids, real shit, a real world we live in !

here's a flowchart i copped off of bb forums that helped me decide whats what

cam, before i get at you lemme give you props first for starting these topics. its always good to bounce ideas back & forth with other good brothers. with that being said....

ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR SOME DAMN VITAMINS?!? are you out of your mind? how much riboflavin do you actually need in your life?!? all you doing spending $100 is making sure you have expensive azz piss. vitamins are meant to help cover up any deficiencies in your diet. personally i use this these days

319ZP1DX8HL._SS500_.jpg

this shyt is 11 pills a pack, 7 shotgun shell size pills & 3 tablets. been taking it for close to 2 months & im happy with it. havent gotten any colds recently, just feel good all around

oh yeah, i wont even cop a bottle of water at gnc if i can help it at the prices they charge

bodybuilding.com kills gnc in prices

dpsnutrition kills both of them

I guess a lot of what we see here depends upon what you want to do. Part of the problem that exists in sports medicine is that people are often not engaging in the right type of athletics for their body type or are doing it for the wrong reasons. Since this is a psychological issue, there's little we can do about that.

Secondary to that is the physical consideration. I don't know about many of these products, so I will not speak on them. Now, if you want to operate at peak conditioning, while ensuring that there are no long-term side effects I recommend nutritional supplements. As a rule of thumb, 90% of the stuff you can pull off a shelf in a mall is trash. I would say 100%, but these stores do sell good books. In the practice where I've worked for the past two years, we've noticed a steady decline in the performance of American atheletes - due largely to diet. Truth is - we don't get real food in America anymore. Almost everything is processed.

So, foreign atheletes are becoming more competitive - not that they're better talent, but they eat real food. For example, there are a number of things in the vitamin C complex. Health stores sell you ascorbic acid, but that's just one active component in vitamin C. Again, they've processed for profits at the expense of the consumer. So, watch out. The body needs organic medicine, because it is a living, breathing thing. All genuine replacement parts for the human body will come from the earth. Using that as a rule of thumb, I think you'll be more successful.

Great thread! Ibm2006 makes some good points. As a nutrition professional I really advocate whole foods above all else BUT I do supplement also because it is very difficult for me to get all the protein I need from food to lean bulk without adding too many extra calories. Moderation in everything I suppose.

Vitamins for the most part will just give the average person without deficiencies colorful urine, but I'm on the fence about their value for people that workout hard and long. Problem is most of the nutrition guidelines are based on the "average" person- including a large pool of sedentary or light active people. I feel like the requirements for people that go hard most days of the week are not adequately covered in most research.

For those of you wanting a math formula for how many calories you should eat, look up the estimated energy requirements formula which takes into account physical activity (still has an error range of 200 -300 calories). If I find a good link for an online cal, I will post it.

Good thread, i'll just add my 2 cents, Alot of people forget to take Glutamine, this is a very, very important supplement needed for recovery. Without the propery recovery you will not have any gains.

i'm using a supplement that increases the body's production of HGH, totally legal and legit. faster recovery, and general better health.

It's expensive $100/months supply and is through a MLM (I get it for nothing now plus make a couple 100 a month)

If you want more info PM me
