GTA 6 NEW GAMEPLAY DETAILS:
- Rob Nelson’s GTA 6 playthrough took around 80 hours, including the story and optional objectives with narrative consequences.
- GTA 6’s map is around 2x GTA 5 and 3x RDR2’s playable area.
- Vice City itself is around 2x the size of Los Santos.
- Built-up areas outside Vice City are around 11x larger than those outside Los Santos.
- TGG briefly saw the full map under fog of war and says there does not appear to be a Florida-style panhandle.
- He also spotted what may be an airport or military base somewhere in the Keys.
- TGG saw GTA 6 running at 4K 30 FPS on a base PS5.
- Rockstar has not confirmed a 60 FPS mode.
- The default HUD mostly disappears until you tap down on the D-pad.
- A classic mode can keep the minimap permanently visible.
- You can replace the minimap with a Red Dead-style compass.
- A new quick waypoint system lets you hold down on the D-pad and press R3 to set a waypoint without opening the map.
- Setting a waypoint keeps the minimap visible while navigating.
- The full map can be opened directly with the PS5 touchpad.
- The map can still also be accessed normally through the pause menu.
- GTA 6 features many different types of weather, but Rockstar is keeping the specifics secret.
- Drive-thrus are fully functional and food gives temporary stat boosts.
- Restaurants may also let you order food inside, but TGG did not personally see this.
- Bus stops appear on the minimap and NPCs can wait there for buses.
- Buses can be used for fast travel by skipping the journey.
- Trains are rideable, although TGG could not confirm whether they can be used for fast travel.
- Taxis and an Uber/Lyft-style app called RydeMe are also available.
- RydeMe lets you sit through the journey or skip directly to your destination.
- Items can be physically picked up and purchased from convenience store shelves.
- TGG watched Rob Nelson pick up and buy a six-pack of beer.
- Convenience store shopping works similarly to RDR2, but with more interaction.
- Streamer mode can disable copyrighted music.
- Photo mode lets you move the camera around your character and take screenshots.
- Rockstar Editor has not been confirmed for launch.
- RDR2’s cinematic camera returns for driving.
- TGG did not see first-person mode and has no concrete information on whether it will be available at launch.
- GTA 6 has a zoo that players can visit.
- Zoo animals can be studied and added to an animal collection/checklist.
- Jason and Lucia can visit the zoo together as a date to improve their relationship.
- Jason and Lucia physically hold and look at their phones in-game.
- The phone is no longer just a UI overlay; they are looking at the same screen you see.
- Each character has their own phone and apps.
- Social media posts can lead you to actual people and locations in the world.
- Apps include RideMe, What Up, BuckMe, Snapmatic, a fitness app and WAiNK.
- The fitness app tells you when your character should work out.
- WAiNK shows information about vehicles you look at.
- It shows the tool needed to steal a car, its sale value and registration cost.
- WAiNK can show tools such as a Slim Jim, key cloner or immobilizer bypass.
- Stolen vehicles must be registered before becoming personal vehicles.
- Jason and Lucia can cut or shave their hair at safehouses.
- Barbers and salons offer more styles without waiting for hair to grow like in RDR2.
- NPC interactions use RDR2-style greet and antagonize options.
- NPC reactions vary depending on who they are and what is happening.
- Jason and Lucia can automatically defend each other in free roam.
- TGG saw Lucia hit an NPC after the NPC shoved Jason.
- Rockstar is still actively tuning NPC behaviour during development.
- TGG watched Rob Nelson notice an overly aggressive NPC and make a note of it while playing.
- NPC density has been significantly increased.
