Xbox testing disc-to-digital feature that digitizes a physical game collection

Might have to switch to Xbox

On the flip side, I wonder if Microsoft will force you to buy a specialized hard drive to strip and save.

The gaming industry more than any other form of entertainment seems determined to piss off their own fanbases.

As someone who tries to enjoys maybe 1-5 big titles (mostly single-player) a years it's really hard to be a gamer these days.

Even now, for the last few days I've been re-playing Hitman Absolution. Why, cause I had the disc sitting around and remembered liking it on my 1st playthru.

Fuck a disc-less console.

I've been so confused with the gaming and the disc vs digital issue. How does backwards compatibility work on PS?

For Xbox, I've been recently replaying a bunch of my old 360 & Xbox One games on my series X. The system recognizes most of the discs but it still forces a download of the digital game onto the consoles library.

That shit takes hours. Basically as long as installing a new game. So after all those hours downloading them, you'd think you be able to play the game whenever. Nope, the second you switch disc, the system is like, "ninja do you own this game."

Is it any difference with PS?

Unless, Sony, unless, people say fuck you and shift their spending.

Sounds good but consumers have never shown that level of discipline especially in the gaming community.

If gamers wanted to make a clear statement about this disc-less bullshit they'd boycott GTA 6 since they're going completely digital as a warning SONY, Microsoft and all game makers that they aren't tolerating it.

Also, at some point a lawsuit will be needed to address company's making consumers pay for games, movies, TV shows, etc. that they don't actually own and can lose at any time without compensation.

I posted a vid showing 3 different countries already putting out lawsuits..some of them are for a few billion dollars… also gta 6 has already made over a billion dollars in pre-orders so it’s kinda to late when it comes to the grand theft auto situation… remember 85 percent of sales is due to digital releases.. this is about the other 15 percent of their consumer base… if they generated 3 billion a yr in total sales are they willing to eliminate close to a half billion in profit going against the physical copy consumers.. this is what’s this is about… also will some of the 85 percent consumers understand why physical media is important and jump ship and agree with having options of either physical or digital copies.. its about options and ownership.. Sony said fuck options and fuck ownership will the 85 percent digital get that and is Sony willing to sacrifice losing a portion of their consumer base on their decision

Excellent points here. I feel the same way about the video game industry. They force online play on you. Completely fucked up the Call of Duty campaign series. It's annoying as fuck. Besides the sports titles I just play the A-list games now.

GTA6 isn't going to be released on physical disc at all from what I've read.

It still fucks me up to hear people say that single player campaign in CoD doesn't matter and never has.

I forget where I fell off and gave up on CoD games but up into at least Modern Welfare 2 the story was the most important part.

I played all the early CoD games for countless hours without ever trying the multi-player stuff. Now the whole franchise is multi-player.

I still play Call of Duty but never multiplayer and I have no interest to.

Agree. I was gonna play this year but I heard they fucked up the campain by not having checkpoints. Stupid shit. :smh: :smh:

The last CoD I had an honest interest in was the one where people were doing wall runs.

That was the game that made me realize that the gaming landscape was beyond me. That and 10 year olds being able to snipe across the map while simultaneously building ladder towers in fortnite.

I haven't felt that kind of frustration since that one gun in Perfect Dark 64 that could snipe thru walls & floors.

That was a stupid ass campain too. I remember that. They did redeem themselves with mushc better campains after that but in usual fashion they ended up fuckin it up this year. For no fuckin reason at all they eliminated checkpoints for the campain. Who the fuck wants to get to the end of a 25 minute mission just to go all the way to the beginning of that bitch if you get killed? Stupid shit. :smh: Done with Call of Duty forever

GTA6 isn't going to be released on physical disc at all from what I've read.
I read it was coming to disc but not at launch but that was several months ago. Now there's a report that it's not coming to physical hardware at all but Rockstar hasn't confirmed it. Guess I'll have to download the game regardless. It sucks if it's never going to be on disc. :smh:

Gamestop will be going out of business for good in the next few years

There’s 2 things that could happen.. this situation kills GameStop or the complete opposite, this brings a resurgence of physical media consumers to them.. I don’t know when the ps6 supposed to drop but there’s a lot of old consoles that could be bout to sold for the cheap cause a portion of people bout to go fully digital and don’t want physical games and consoles so they will get rid of them and there’s a bunch of people that might not ever had some of these consoles or like collecting old games and consoles are willing to buy those old merchandise.. basically one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.. I’ve seen articles from places in ny to other states that have stores that sale old dvds, vhs, tapes, vcrs, etc and that they been making new record sales cause of the resurgence of physical media consumers.. this could go the same route for vid games also… only time will tell but I definitely think there’s a demographic of physical media users that’s gonna tap into the gaming genre in a new impactful way in the next 18 months.. whose gonna benefit only time will tell

Ps5 been out for nearly 6 yrs( nov 2020) total sales worldwide 93 million copies

If you take away 15 percent of their physical copy users that would have them with 13.9 million fewer sales.. which would have them with a lil under 80 million total sales in a 6 yr span… is Sony willing to risk that type of drop off in sales by going digital only… if true that the next console will start at 1000 bucks.. that’s 13 billion 900 million dollars that they potentially don’t make just off of console sales alone.. not to mention extra controller sales, physical game sales, etc

What really pisses me off about downloading games is they are priced the same as a physical copy.

That's always been one of my biggest issues with downloading games.

If they're going to save the money by not manufacturing and shipping physical media (and get to cut out a lot of revenue lost to retailers) they should pass some of that off to the customer.

True.

I prefer XBOX and it appears they're also planning on going this route which, if true, would definitely delay my purchase of a new generation XBOX by a year or two at least.

I'm someone who still buys physical media for games and movies so I'm really not feeling any of this.
