That and I believe running threads are better for engagement and are more fun. One of my favorites are the “Pass, Smash” threads (forget who does them) but they last a half day. Seeing ninjas lie or be foolishly honest is quite enjoyable; especially the gifs replies.

Brother Phanatic's statement here gets to the real danger for BGOL's future existence, in my opinion. The country we lived in back in the 90s when this board launched, with all of its warts, faults, problems, and issues, that country no longer exists. It's already gone. While we've been complacent, non-caring, non-voting, and unconcerned, these white supremacist bigots walking amongst us have been consistent and relentless. They never miss a chance to vote. They've never stopped working and fighting for what they believe.
From the current President to the Supreme Court to the average work-a-day CAC walking around us everyday, these hateful bastards have never stopped working. And right in front of our eyes, they've already succeeded in taking this country back to the early 1950s. You already need a strong VPN to access "adult" sites if you live in a red state. The Voting Rights Act is gone. The Civil Rights Act will likely be gone within the next year. With all they've already done and are continually doing to eliminate our collective voting power in the South, they've already half succeeded in bringing back the old Confederacy. There's even a bill that will most likely soon become law in Louisiana, House Bill 211, that once you strip it down to its raw core is nothing more than a sneaky, undercover way to bring back chattel slavery into this country.
I believe we've got one last chance this fall to get Republicans out of power all over this country. Every living ass who cares about the future, for themselves and for their children, better get their asses out to vote in numbers that are so great and so huge that all the inevitable cheating and conniving that they'll do won't be able to stop. Because if these monsters succeed in keeping power over the entire government again and have the power to change the Constitution to their liking, this country as we've known it, for the rest of our lives, will be OVER, and anything black-owned, or black-focused, especially something like BGOL that's geared towards black men, will be in grave danger.

I think it’s a mix of a lot of things that have been discussed here already, the least of which being so many other mediums nowadays, and a lot where all you have to do is press an app as opposed to logging in like you do here. I mean, that’s not a huge deal, but nobody under 35 is really about logging in if they don’t have to.
I honestly spent a lot less time here than I used to, not because the board is doing anything wrong, it’s just the fact that I was 17 when I first started here and I’m damn near in my 50s now with all the shit that comes with that like elder care, workplace, bullshit, etc. I also think that when HNIC opened up the board (and I’ve always understood why he had to do it), the loss of anonymity changed the general tenor of the conversations on here, many people left. And the main thing that brought many of us here decades ago, readily accessible porn, is as easy to access as water now.
This is still home. But it’s an old heads club now, has been for at least a decade, and there’s no young blood coming behind us. Regardless of what the future holds, the glory days of BGOL will never be matched.
