BREAKING: Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn have revealed a superseding indictment accusing NBA player Terry Rozier and several alleged co-conspirators of orchestrating a massive insider sports betting scheme tied to non-public NBA injury information and player prop bets. This comes after Damon Jones plead guilty to the wire fraud conspiracy charges in April.
Prosecutors allege Rozier accepted roughly $100,000 to intentionally withdraw early from a March 23, 2023 Charlotte Hornets game against the Pelicans so bettors could cash in on “under” wagers tied to his stats. The indictment details alleged bribe negotiations, straw bettors, cash payouts, peer-to-peer transfers and coordinated wagers placed before injury information became public.
The filing also expands into alleged schemes involving the Portland Trail Blazers, Orlando Magic, Lakers and Raptors, while former NBA player/coach Damon Jones is accused of allegedly providing inside Lakers injury information to bettors (there is a LOT more detail regarding Jones’ involvement…wonder why). Prosecutors say the conspiracy stretched from December 2022 through March 2024 and included wire fraud, money laundering, sports bribery and honest services fraud allegations. Below are just 2 pages of the twenty-five page indictment.
