UPDATE: Donald Trump Takes Office as the 47th US President

"Pretty much every data point shows the same thing — by and large, Americans don’t like the Democratic Party or their approach, they’re just extremely angry with the Republican Party at the moment.

This will likely lead to a good midterm outcome for Dems. Maybe they’ll even flip the Senate.

This will lead many to think they don’t need to make any major strategic adjustments heading into 2028. They will be wrong.

In the 2022 midterms, Democrats did better than expected — partially due to backlash to the Dobbs decision, partially due to the fact that midterm electorates are just demographically better for Democrats these days (more college educated, more politically engaged, etc.).

That, among other things, gave Democrats a false sense of confidence — “look, we bucked the historical trend of getting our shit rocked in a midterm in which we held the White House!” — and they didn’t do any of the course correction that was necessary ahead of 2024. Maybe it wouldn’t have mattered in terms of the 2024 outcome, but it was a mistake nonetheless.

We cannot make that same mistake with 2026 and 2028. The massive swings that we may see toward Democrats among less party-loyal groups like young voters and Latinos will not be permanent, nor even last in the medium-term. Maybe it’ll carry over into 2028 if voters are still super pissed at Trump, but — as @madrid_mike calls it — it’s more of a “dealignment” than a realignment among these types of party-fluid groups.

So don’t let Ken Martin or establishment Democrats or even leftists tell you that we don’t need to course correct as a party if we do well in November. That voters are buying wha we are selling. On most issues, including inflation, they’re not. They’re punishing Republicans, the party in power.

If we want to build a durable connection with more voters than we currently have in our coalition, we have to have hard conversations and take some (smart) risks.

Complacency will get us back to where we are now, sooner or later.

Now I’m gonna go outside it’s beautiful out."

Exactly this

Dems are hell bent on doing the same shit they been doing. "We did everything perfectly as always. It's just that the voters are dumb. We don't have to change a thing."

And when you call out any current Dem politician, the Dem defense squad comes riding to the rescue.

This party needs to be focused like a laser on winning, and that means catering to what voters want and not what the political elites want.

generally speaking what do you think the voters want?

generally speaking what do you think the voters want?
They want someone to help with their pocketbooks. Full stop. And until that's done, they don't want to hear about anything else. Real action that they can feel.

"Dems propse giving ever child a 300 tax credit every August to help pay for school clothes and school supplies..."

That would get more votes than a thousand No Kings rallies.

Dems say "we can do that TOO"

Voters don't want no gotdayum TOO. They want this to be the focus.

It’s amusing how the political scene always seems to revolve around what the Democrats do—or don’t do. No matter how messy things get with the Republicans, somehow it’s still the Democrats’ fault. In the Black community, the pushback on Kamala ranged from her personality and race/ethnicity to reparations and not crafting laws exclusively for Black Americans. White women had their own gripes about her personality and certain policies, while some simply didn’t want a woman in office at all. Remember how Hillary and Nikki Haley also got flipped in favor of yet another old white guy...

The challenge is that as more progressives join the party, each group's demands and agendas come into play. Concerns of the LGBTQ community often annoy other communities, even though everyone has gay and trans people in their own families. Similarly, concerns of the Black community are met with disdain by some groups in the party, as if what Black Americans think or feel doesn’t matter. This is the downside of a big tent—different agendas clash.

The GOP avoids this because they largely unite under one ideology of social and fiscal conservatism, to the point where even gay conservatives set aside their own agendas to serve the Republican Party. The push for gay marriage and equality was led by liberals and progressives, not conservatives, yet conservative gays still benefited—and then voted for Trump. The Democrats’ messaging ends up scattered because they try to accommodate many often conflicting agendas.

As the party of openness, diversity and inclusivity, they face a conflict the GOP doesn’t, since a core conservative tenet is exclusivity and white Christian nationalism. Name another political party that makes members qualify to join instead of asking, “What can we do to earn your support?” The only reason there aren’t more Black members is because they don’t want that influence “muddying” their platform. Ironically, most Black social stances align more with conservatives, but most Black Americans aren’t Republicans—three guesses why.

you should check out my thread on a scenario where a state goes fully democratic socialist and the how that would play out....

SCENARIO: Oregon decides to go fully democratic socialist and it works! This plays like a netflix series!

This is a direct example of how our system of government harms the people for corporate profits. The corporate profits buy government influence which allow them to continue to profit off POISONING ALL of us. We all eat food. We all drink water. We all breath air. But we allow these companies to get away scott free with poisoning us for decades.

We have to understand these companies are Zombies. The corporate behavior of these companies is created by individuals making decisions for their own self interest. They are CEO's doctors lawyers engineers all individually sacrificing the collective good for their individual payment by the zombie. The human does not win against the machine. But we allow these systems and corporations to literally kill us. WHY? Because they tell us to. We are in a matrix of our own creation and we lack the ability to get out. And it's only because of fear and greed.

This is nuts. I'm getting killed in taxes every year.

The corporate zombies can afford to pay off politicians but the individual can't. They can pay someone to sell the idea that we should pay 1/3 dollars we make to the government but the corporate zombie that doesn't have to eat or sleep doesn't have to contribute to America at all. Who works for who? These companies make global profits and don't want to pay for the human beings health insurance.

I thought this was one of the places that they redid the maps WHILE the election was happening, which is bullshyt.
They only stopped the Congressional primary. All other elections had to continue. There's no way logistically they could implement new maps after early voting and just before election day.

Do you think rich white weirdos give a shit about poor white weirdos? Rules have never applied to the people who created them. Rules are for people who need to be governed.

But this isn't revolving around what the Dems do. People elected Republicans because they promised to fix the economy and didn't. Now they're throwing them out.

At the end of the day, it comes down to this. If you don't know how you're goign to pay your rent, and you and your children will be homeless at the end of the months, ALLLL the other shit takes a back seat. The environment, lgtbq, abortion, affirmative action, the VRA, big pharma, aipac, gaza, all ofit.

So when you are worried about surviving, and you see a party whose main focus is on all this other stuff, you know that's not a party for you. The reason Mamdani is killing it, is that he knows how to listen and communicate with people.

You never hear that dude talking about politics. He talks about things t help people. The average person hates politics. They don't want to hear about democratic socialism. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE MY LIFE BETTER?

Mamdani talks about free busses, universal childcare, lowering rents, all these things are democratic socialist ideas, but he NEVER pushes democratic socialism.

"Hey, I'm going to clear the snow off these streets and if you want to get paid to do it, come on down." In the long run, pushing political agendas is a losing strategy because most of the voters don't want to hear them. We need to stop looking through the prism of a party and look through the eyes of the people we claim we want to help.

I’ll give Trump this — he’s got some truly ride-or-die supporters.
Gas hits $5 or $6 a gallon? No problem.
Food prices skyrocket? No problem.
A war tied to his decisions? No problem.
Portrays himself like some messianic figure? No problem.
Takes shots at the Pope? No problem.
Epstein files? Still no problem.

Meanwhile, every election season Democrats end up in a circular firing squad. Whoever the nominee is, it turns into: “What have they done for Black people like me?” “Where are the reparations?” “What about Gaza?” Then comes, “I’m voting third party,” or “I’m sitting this one out — both sides are the same.”

And honestly, it feels like the exact same cycle every single election.

How would an American view your post?

If the economy works best with the negro as a second-class citizen, isn't the president trying to improve the economy?

White people don't have an issue with those Black invention books that are pulled from boxes every February. They have a problem with Blacks filing patents and they're not able to profit from it.

This has pretty much always been the case despite how bad republicans have been and the things they did/do to strip people of their rights. Despite republicans always favoring giving more to the millionaires/billionaires and corporations, while stripping any thing that helps the people. This second Trump term is just a culmination of everything the republicans have been doing for a long time ((on loud)).

Biden did that

the biggest job creation in decades
put a lot of money into their communities

just because he didnt come out and spell it out for their dumb asses

This exact attitude is why Dems got thrown out in 2024. When voters told Dems inflation was too high, Dems said "You're wrong."

Do you want peoples votes are do you want to feel superior?

Let me tell you, after talking to multiple Dems about this, enjoy 2026 and (possibly) 2028, because we will be RIGHT back here in 2030/2032. Dems are not going to change a thing.

The Dem answer is always the same:

Voters are dumb.
We are perfect.
We are not changing a thing.

I don't think reparations is achievable, but listening to these two on a daily basis makes me think it's truly possible.

Monetary Reparations will never be possible in this country. Toooo many cacs will oppose "my money" going into the hands/ pockets of black people........

Regardless of how much of their "money" is used for thousands of other government initiatives.....

I think if we fought for complete tax abatement, free business grants/ loan forgiveness, or shares of stock from US companies (that benefited from slavery), might be easier to get.
