Movie News: Ryan Coogler & Michael B. Jordan - SINNERS - jim crow era vampire flick (SPOILERS OPEN!!!)

Malcolm and Miracle at St Anna or Do the Right thing

Training Day and Straight out of Compton

for some reason I thought Training Day was nominated for Best Picture

F. Gary Grey never received an Academy Award nomination

Straight Out of Compton?

I have to see who was nominated that year.

Training Day and Straight out of Compton

Spotlight (winner), The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, and Room.

Yeah Compton should have been on there.

Max was good and that director still showing skills at that age was impressive

But agree with everything else.

It started problematic
Being a wigga which had nothing to do with 1920s ping pong btw

But nobody cared

Hey Timmy wiggered his way to the biggest box office that studio had ever seen. I gotta give him that.

But I honestly that and im gonna get killed here...

Smashing machine was a more impressive performance overall of the 2 brothers

And they work much better TOGETHER.

DAMN RIGHT!

Max was summer movie good but it wasn't Oscar award good...

Look at the bulshit that got noms instead of Training Day

Gosford Park, Mulholland Drive, - I know that Blackhawk Down is a white mans burden favorite but as a movie it has no legs - Ridley was great once but has been coasting for decades now

Ron Howard (Winner): A Beautiful Mind
Ridley Scott: Black Hawk Down
Robert Altman: Gosford Park
Peter Jackson: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
David Lynch: Mulholland Drive

A beautiful mind we all know was gonna win Oscar LOVES controversial bio pic

People LOVED black hawk down. Is was a good movie and Ridley name was on it. I dont think I ever watched it again.

I LIKED Gosford Park and it was Oscar bait

LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!

sorry im a Lynch guy so I cant sh*t on Mulholland Drive.

All that being said Denzel performance and the adrenaline of that movie YES Training day SHOULD have been on there.

But I dont think it was gonna beat Mind and Rings

its called conditioning - its a modern charge of the light brigade -
if you watch it more than once it falls apart

Gosford Park is like a Knives Out movie winning this year

it is utter shit - or something to watch high - Lynch misses as often as he hits

LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!
Training Day was a better movie -
yeah LOTR 1 is spectacular but Jackson is not good at storytelling - the first 2 movies had no chance - Return of the King was the best written and paced - and he won with it

But I dont think it was gonna beat Mind
not going to shit on Mind - but Training Day was the best movie of that year

same movie with a white director would have gotten the Coppola type push- shit would have been compared in every other article to LA Confidential

Respectfully fuk you for completely dismissing my opinions Vish. :hmm:

For what it was Black hawk was fine and the buzz reviews and campaign made it a no Brainer for voters regardless of what it was cheating off of. And they love based on a true story stuff. I honestly i need to re-watch it.

Knives out aint to be just dismissed like that. We seen MUCH worse nominations. I LIKED Gosford Park. Got the DVD somewhere

Mulholland Drive was way too out there to be nominated looking back but for some reason it really connected with critics and audiences and seemed "accessible " for those maybe unfamiliar with Lynch? I just remember it being well received and reviewed in real time.

I aint hearing any LOTR slander nope.

And your 100% right

A white director does Training Day?

its considered a tour de force crowning achievement.

I know its loved NOW...

but how was it reviewed at the time?
